Cosy little joint with very friendly staffers. It was my first time there, but I was impressed with the menu and the pricing. I had a burger and chips, very nice. I would definitely want to go again. If at food like Burgers, Bunny Chow and Indian Curries is your thing, pay them a visit. I also like their alfresco dinning area, which is on a street that is just moderately busy. Tantalizing😜
You dont even deserve the 1⭐.appalling experience. I ordered a bunny chow and received a chunk of stale bread and a side dish of curry. I was forced to choose the only option of curry separate or the app wouldnt allow the order to be placed. (So I paid to make my own bunny). Nevertheless, I thought it wouldnt be too bad to have to fill my own bunny chow...until it was delivered.Stale bread and not enough curry to fill the bread.... In what universe is this a bunny chow..(attached pic) Cane Cutters you should be ashamed, siss..
The best bunny in Durban. Really. The price was perfect and the portion was excellent. Staff knew the menu and could recommend exactly what we wanted. Orders were quick and food arrived shortly. Hot and spicy. Just perfect. Logies videos really did justice to this one. Definitely recommending this place to anyone who hasnt tried a bunny yet.
One of the best Bunny Chows ever. The curry is full of flavor and is a really good, filling meal. Perfect for a cool winters day lunch. Finding a close parking spot may be challenging due to the restaurants popularity.
Really poor quality. The burger patties are mixed with offal and there is a strong clove taste in all their curries. Please avoid.
16/10/2021. Quality of mince samoosa, absolutely disappointing. Too much pastry, less filling, no taste.
1st visit and we thoroughly enjoyed our bunnies, we tried butter chicken, delux mutton, and chicken and prawn, all were very good, tasty, right amount of heat in the c&p and mutton. Lots of meat! Chicken and prawn was the favorite, really delicious, we will be back!
My review is based on a recent sit-in meal having ordered a mutton bunny chow. The bunny chow was incredible and easily one of the better ones Ive had. I appreciate that it is spicy as some places cut back on the chilli powder to accommodate everyone. The food was prepared in a short amount of time and was equipped with a generous helping of salad. The restaurant could do with more seating but it seems that they are restricted with regards to space.
The quality has dropped a lot. The mutton bunny was something to rave about, but not anymore, think it is because change of cooks. The pieces of meat are few in the bunnies and fatty, compared to bunnies from other renowned take away, and their prices ridiculously higher. The presentation is tops but taste not so good.
Thoroughly enjoyed the food from here, 1st time weve been, chicken and prawn bunny for the win, it was delicious 😋
Lovely food, authentic South Indian. While on holiday from the rat race we made a special trip to indulge. However the lady at the till is rude...need to work at the hospitality.
We ordered a beans bunny and a mutton bunny. The food was delicious. The sit in is clean and neat. I enjoyed the experience. Will visit again. The setting was a bit small, due to covid restrictions probably.
Thank you for the good service. The toasted sandwich was great 👍😋
Love Love LOVE Cane Cutters.. the food is always on point.. all covid protocols followed while maintaining great service.
I love the food, and they have their own car guards... Its safe
Ordered a deluxe mutton button for the first time and was very disappointed. The menu promised prime cuts, boneless and extra meat. The bunny delivered meat that was tender, but there was a bone and the bunny only contained four teaspoon sized pieces of meat.I would not suggest getting this over a regular mutton bunny which normally contains more meat than this. Definitely not worth R80.The potato was one small piece that was glassy and not the normal steaming soft cooker that Ive come to expect from Canecutters. There was no coriander garnish on top either.I have enjoyed many regular 1/4 mutton bunnys over the past four years. And regularly recommend them to people, after today I am not so sure. I definitely would not recommend the Deluxe bunny as it is more expensive and contained less meatThe gravy was saltier and darker in color than before not sure what this means. What I find is that it is generally the takeway bunnys that are not up to scratch. It is not a question of the bunnys being old as I do not order in advance. I go to the store and place the order then drive a short distance to the botanical gardens for example, to enjoy my bunny there.I am hoping that this was just an off day and not indicative of the future of Canecutters.
We are done with Cane Cutters. About 6 or 7 times we have ordered through Uber Eats and not received the correct order - missing items etc. and not ONCE have they brought the item, refunded the item or even sounded sorry. Our most recent order there was a coke missing from the order from Uber, so my husband drives down only for a man behind the counter (seemed like the owner) to guilt him and hurl abuse at him about how he is going to be out of pocket if he gives my husband a coke. RUDE, BAD MANNERED people with no consideration for their customers. We have been supporting this business since they opened and to be treated like this? We will never recommend or support this business ever again.
The bunny was tasty but all the gravy was soaked in the bread. Luckily we ordered extra gravy.the wait took too long. It wasnt worth it for the price we paid
This was an amazing place to visit. The food was great and freshly prepared. A friend of mine is not accustomed to Durban food and they gave him some gravy to taste so he could have an idea of there flavours. The waiter was quick and the wait for a table was not long. The toilets and wash room was very neat and clean. I must say that there soji was probably the best i have ever had.
The food is always consistent in terms of flavor and portion size. Sadly there are noonger toilet facilities available.
Good food however service is too slow.
Ordered the 1/4 trotters & beans bunny via Mr delivery app. Very dissapointed, mostly beans, hardly any trotters. For the price, not impressed. Wont order from here again.
Always a pleasant place to eat quality Indian food
Ample, comfortable seating, washrooms available, clean tables. Clear menu and great specials. Sugar beans was bland, tasted like plain boiled beans, nothing to write home about. Broad beans was good. Mutton bunnies are mutton bunnies. If you get excited by it, good on you.Give it a try, Goundens is cheaper for more or less the same experience although this menu is more expansive. Apparently Canecutter burgers are better than their bunnies. The roundish manager lady needs some customer service training, she doesnt know how to approach customers or even how to speak to employees properly.I definitely wouldnt go back, theres tons of places that offer better curries at better prices with way better service.
Amongst one of the best bunny chow places in the country. Fresh curries constantly and friendly quick service. You would also notice the owners walking around checking on customers experience regularly. Sit in is a bit tight but worth the wait as the food is seriously good. Place is certified halaal as well.
I heard about this restaurant, I read about them in the newspaper and my curiosity got the better of me, so I went to Durban to taste their food. Was the hype true - absolutely, was the food good- well if 5 stars is not good enough then another 5 needs to be added. The food was freshly made with a good combination of heat and flavor which definitely caters to the different taste buds because there was more flavor than heat. This is a clean restaurant based at 55 Helen Joseph road in Berea. Easy access for ♿ and you can do both sit in or takeaway.
I went there years ago and the curry was far too hotIn the meantime I wasvery sick for the past two years and unable to walkYesterday I felt like some curry and being to tired to make my own and popped in there to get mutton curry only and we made the rice at homeSome of the best finest curry that I have has for yearsI went back this morning for bean curry and 4 mutton gravy to eat over the weekendI made hamburgers today and some of the gravy over it _ deliciousIt is well organized and clean with helpfull staffI told the owner (a lady) that the curry was very very goodhighly recommendedThere is a big selection of different curries plus more
Incredible value and an authentic Durban curry experience. No self-respecting foodie can skip a chance to get educated in the ways of the humble, filling, and ultimately tasty bunny chow. A good strong call too for their prawn roti roll, and absolute blast of rich, spicy tomato-base sauce with succulent and tender prawns.
Wow.... great food. Very well priced. Unfortunately staff are not very friendly.
I finally gave the famous Cane Cutters bunny a try and was not disappointed. Absolutely the best, with the most flavourful gravy and neat tender pieces of meat. I will definitely be back.
Food is hands down really delicious but the only problem is that I find the service a little slow
If you want hot food this the place to come.
Boneless! Chicken bunny was delicious, fresh and very tasty. Could maybe have been a tad spicier, but yummy nonetheless. Definitely a Bulwer hotspot. HahaDefinitely will get my next bunny from there. They have a really full menu. Ill keep trying everything. Should be awesome! Couldnt get a shot of it cos I was too busy eating it.Plenty good observation of the covid protocols so dont be disappointed... Wear a mask.
After hearing all the raving about this place and it now being Halaal, we finally decided to try them out, their Broad beans bunny was okay, the Prawn bunny was definitely something new, but as Im a fan of mutton bunnies I decided to try out the Mutton Deluxe Bunny and I was very disappointed. It was not all that people rave about it to be and personally Orientals Makes a much Tastier Mutton Bunny.
Service verrrrrrry slow Just as slow as Goundens No need to be such slow service
Their bunny chows are out of this world.
I went in expecting the best bunny in Durban, while in my opinion it did not live up to that title, i still feel it was a good bunny, they definitely serve a really good “ Deluxe soojie”, service was happy and courteous. Street parking, is rare during business hours, try parking at one of the centers around the area, facilities are really clean and hygienic, wide selection of fast food and durban style Indian food on the menu including breyani, burger, grilled chicken strip for the health conscious
I tried their mappers delight - monster burger very tasty and I would recommend it to those with a huge appetite!
Good foodTakes a bit of time for receiving your order
Was abit skeptical going there around just after 4pm knowing that they close at 5, however was made to feel so welcome!!.. Ordered the famous mutton bunny and whilst waiting for the order, we were given 3 samoosas (bigger than a palm size) on the house!!... The bunnys were delicious and fresh even at closing time... And the price was super affordable compared to other restaurants. Definitely worth 5 star rating.. Well done guys!!
Ive been here a few times before today (pre Covid 19) and it never disappointed. Great weekday specials.. good food... massive menu. Worth a visit.
Just had their quarter mutton bunny and it was delicious. Both my mum and wife enjoyed them; very much worth the drive to Berea. Looking forward to trying their other meals. Keep the meals the same guys and we will definitely be back for more.
I was recommended the restaurant and takeaways by a local and cannot say that I was disappointed. Its a small clean shop with very friendly staff. Locals waiting for food at the Cafe spoke highly of it and I love trying new places that sells bunny chows (hollowed out bread stuffed with curry) especially when in Durban. The bunny was reasonably priced and well presented. The cafes bunny won local competitions and I can understand why...it was great tasting, full of flavor and just spicy enough to let you know and welcome you to Durban. They do offer a wide variety of products including a deluxe bunny chow which i only saw when I already ordered my normal version. Being my first time at the shop I did find that parking was a bit of an issue(I am sure the locals know much better) and I waited a bit long for my food (I guess this could be due to a high amount of orders) but all worth it. You can also call ahead and place an order which might help with my last two issues. One should also note thatbthey do close at 6pm so get there in time. I will definitely try another bunny again from Canecutters. As always just my opinion.
Quick service and believe me their bunny chows are thee best
Had some issues with the management and staff, however, the owner Dan is one of a kind, made sure my order was adhered to and gave me a full refund because I was unhappy. Dont get the bunnies. It will literally fall apart, but the curry is good and the burger is decent for the price.
It looks appealing outside the building thou I didnt get inside.
Bunny chows was delicious.
Really great food! First time trying a bunny and it was delicious - we had the mutton one. The meat was soft and plentiful and the curry was tasty, but not too strong. Only negative was that the manager/hostess wasnt very accommodating when we decided to have our takeaway food at the restaurant. We were also given the incorrect drink.
Their food is delicious, prices are ok, but staff are unfriendly and make it seem as though I am bothering them. Their different daily specials are great value for money.
Staff couldnt be bothered.
Purchased 2 mutton bunnies take away got home no or very little salt meat was very tough phoned and complained immediately managress promised to investigate and call back next day never did i followed up 2days later spoke to so called owner his response was sorry they had no other complaints R160 for 2 1/4 mutton bunnies is a lot of money for pensioners may u prosper.
Good food good value
Great restaurant, delicious food.
Nice place with a Indian food, bunny pie samosas .If you pass next to the canecutters the smell of curries call you inside to buy
Not a very good bunny chow
Best curry place in Durban
Wow, amazing as usual. Literally the best bunny chows in Durban
Haibo....called 15h100..... 45 minutes later everyone has been served, before and after me.....Im still waiting. I usually get the best service but today was actually DISGUSTING. I would have appreciated an explanation atleast.
Family loved it... But was not clean
Outstanding food, good luck specials
Very poor customer service. Walked out without buying because staff unable to control a customer who was abusive, threatening and using vulgar language. Wont go there again.
Good experience, excellent service, cannot understand how this place has one of Durbans best Bunnies, its average..the chilli cancelled out alot of the other spices and the flavour of the lamb was minimal. Had better at local takaways...but staff and venue are great.
Average Asian cuisine dishes
Food was okay orded original Coke only to get coke zero
Literally everything on the menu is good 🤣 favourites include butter chicken, quarter mutton bunny and mutton roti
Tried the quarter mutton bunny from here and was very pleased. It had a good price and very tasty!
Delicious food! Location is a bit problematic, as there is no parking outside and seating is limited, but the food more than makes up for it! The deluxe mutton Bunnychow is great!
Lovely good clean service for takeaway. Love the veg breyani as well as the bunnies with broad beans. Good choice to get a good portion of food to take home to eat.
Good food, good service, good Covid protocols.
Mapper burger is the best!
Not sure what the whole rant was about regarding thier bunnies. Bunny was good but Ive eaten better.
Very nice food and good service
