When we arrived at the Oude Wellington Restaurant it seemed so quiet and we thought they might be closed, but we were happy to find it open and serving. The restaurant has got seating inside and outside, but it being a beautiful day we chose outside and at the same time enjoyed the garden and scenery. We decided to order the platter for 2 and was surprised with the portions and how tasty and fresh the food was.... we would recommend this any time..Think this is a hidden gem, so stop by when in Wellington and enjoy a light meal.
I give this restaurant 5/5!! NO DOUBT!! Took family for a Sunday mystery drive. Landed up in Wellington. Checked on Google maps for any place to have a nibble, and up comes Oude Wellington. At first, I didnt had any high hopes, as this was my first time. Got lost a bit at entrance as the road are making a fork. Please owner correct your signboards. When we finally arrived there, it had an old farm stall atmosphere. The waiters were very humble, down to earth, but in the same breathe, professional. When the food arrived,...WOW!! This place is a hidden gem! The food was pictured perfect! The meat melts in your mouth. The way it was presented, I can only say, Gordon Ramsay you can go sleep! We definitely going back there again, no doubt. To the owner, main chefs, and waiters, well done. We felt like royalties. My family still chatting about this experience.🥰
We recently visited Oude Wellington Restaurant, and were blown away by the both the food and hospitality. John and Susanna went out of their way to accommodate us, and made us feel like absolute royalty. We had the snoek fishcake as a starter, the pork belly for main, and cheesecake with passionfruit coulis for dessert - all excellent. The portions are extremely generous, plating is thoughtful, and the flavours were outstanding. The venue is stunning with a warm ambiance. There is cosy inside section for the colder winter days/evenings, and a spacious outdoor area for the warmer days/evenings. I can only imagine how stunning a wedding here would be.We will definately be returning and can highly recommend!
Excellent food good service and the best hostess
There was a private function when we arrived there. There was no mention of it on their website. The owner or manager Sysan or Sandra was very unprofessional and treated us with disdain. Will never go back. No people skills and very unfriendly.
Lovely location with lots to explore - even a small store selling preloved clothes. Food was nice like a hearty home cooked meal, not really like a restaurant. I had sesame honey chicken for R150. It was a large portion but didnt look how I expected it too (small chicken strips in sauce) Owners very accommodating and following strict Covid-19 protocol.Had a virgin rooibos cocktail which was a 6/10. Espresso shake was a 7/10.
What a hidden gem. Relaxing atmosphere with chef from Holland. Highly recommended. Bring your family and friends for a wonderful experience, away from the city life.
What a great place! Generous portions of comfy, delicious enticing food and fab wine. The best bitterballen and pork belly in the western cape! Friendly, comfortable service and surroundings. A definite spot to revisit to try some of the other culinary fare
Amazing Food. Friendly Service. So much potential ...BUT for the love of God ... please just get the place sorted out. The tacky decor. The bins of empty bottles in plain sight. Garden Refuse in plain sight. The Tetanus infused wooden bridge. Its like dining behind a mechanic workshop in Brakpan.Being honest. So much potential. If someone would just clean it out properly.
Authentic restaurant, nicely hidden away on historic Estate in Wellington.Family driven and very friendly....
The best food ever, on a beautiful farm
Lovely old pub, lots of history
A true Wellington wonder! Although relatively small, the interior is covered with fascinating, eclectic paintings and photographs that will have you peering around the room for quite a while. Complete with a big indoor fireplace and a closed wooden door that honestly looks like the entrance to a Hobbit hole(!) it’s warm and inviting and charming. The menu is limited, but varied and interesting, and specials change regularly. You can find everything from a fresh bread platter to traditional Dutch cuisine; it’s a place for those who enjoy deliciously seasoned food, beautifully presented dishes and some adventurous tastes (although there’s something for the less adventurous too)! Surprisingly large portions, well priced and matched with a fine selection of wines makes Oude Wellington the type of place you’ll want to return to regularly!
Food was absolutely amazing!!!! Would definitely recommend.
Really enjoyed the live music. Peter Vanne was excellent.
Great to get out into the country and enjoy wonderful food. Family concern run well and service is top notch. Fantastic setting too. Highly recommended
Top foods.
Superb Meal and menu. Fantastic venue. Excellent service. Very good value! Recommend very highly!
Friendly hostessFood excellent. Thanks J.
What a lovely restaurant! The food was so delicious we have the pork belly and steak! The bread and butter was sooo worth it! And our waiter was very very nice! We will be back!!
This is a wonderful place. Lovely old buildings and people are so friendly. A definite for that weekend little get away to enjoy good food and lovely scenary
We had a light Sunday lunch here - excellent hospitality, food and wine! Will definitely visit again.
Loved it! The food was spectacular. Great ambiance. One of the best options in the Wellington area.
Had a Sunday lunch at the Restaurant outside area during a market and it was lovely! The restaurant inside was closed to offer extra space for the locals to showcase their home made soaps, accessories, home decor, secondhand clothing and so much more!
We had their belly of pork on the first day and I could not enjoy it because I had tummy issues. My colleagues on the other hand couldnt stop praising the chef. Their chicken curry, steak and fish were out of this world. Id recommend this place any day.OMG the cheesecake, I give it 10 out of 10
The steaks were cooked to perfection. They tasted nice, soft. The accompaniments did not fit. The staff was nice. The atmosphere was good.
The owners are great, very friendly, especially Susanna, with her warm friendly personality. The food was superb, meat done to perfection. Will definitely visit again.
Wonderful restaurant with delicious food and wines. Great atmosphere and good service. The owner was a life saver as we were stranded without the Uber and he brought us back to the place where we stayed!
The best fillet steak I had in a long time, a very friendly waiter and a very nice garden seating. Highly recommended!
Excellent cuisine. Friendly manager and staff. Lovely outdoors in summer and cosy indoors with fireplace in winter
Very disappointing. We made a booking since the reviews are mostly good. We arrived and ordered drinks. Red instead of white wine arrived. The food selection is on a black board thats placed in view of the table. No interaction from the waiter. We ordered mains. The rabbit was OK. The fish on the other hand terrible. Dishes are over priced and nothing special. Rather try one of the other restaurants in the area. I wont be back.
Beautiful venue. Very helpful, friendly staff. Unusual dishes offered. Very tasty. Chips excellent.
Very few people around: I expected many more!
Best steak I had in a long time with an excellent pepper sauce. Staff, chef and owner were all great hosts. Dont miss this one when youre in the neighbourhood!! 5 out of 5.
Very good and friendly service. Excellent food, well presented.Good variety on menu. Lovely venue
Long, lazy lunches with impeccable food. Dont expect your food in a hurry cause it wont happen. This is a place where you spend time with friends and family talking and enjoying. The lambs tongue is divine even if it is hot (as opposed to cold pressed as my mum would prepare it). Serves only local wines (loved the Pink Rhino). If you are passing make the time to stop in.
Best ever restaurant. Love the venue, food and wine.
The food was amazing, but Mathew the waiter was the best. He made my wedding anniversary extra special.❤❤
Good choice in the menu, always delicious, good wine advised by the waitress. Spent our 3rd anniversary there with my boyfriend, that was great. Will definitely go again
Had a wonderful al fresco lunch under a shady patio with excellent food and wines. The water melon and feta salad and homemade desserts were really good.Highly recommended !!
Amazing food some of the best i have had and greatservice aswell. Definitely going back
Great Cape wine farm style restaurant. Food is authentic and the portions huge. Loved it
Not only was the food superb, the chef and Ingrid, the waitress, are two wonderful people!Highly recommended 👍
Somewhat off the beaten track, but man, so worth it! The food was incredible, the beer at Bar Bar Blacksheep was cold and the service world class!
Food and service was amazing!!
The atmosphere was exquisite. The food was amazing and very well prepared. at first glance it appeared a bit pricey, but in he-insight worth every cent. I would recommend this place for a awesome evening.
Great atmosphere. Wednesday curry evenings a must. No kiddies menu but they are more than willing to create something for the kids.
Great fine dining, indoor and outdoor seating in an unique venue. Highly recommended.
Very nice restaurant Brilliant food with ample portions and nice presentation
Excellent (I had the Black Pepper Filet). Great ambiance, very friendly staff.
One waiter to three tables when we visited a d yet service was slow. The port we were served was oxidized but the owner er replaced it. She also regularly checked in, was very friendly and chatty. We visited at night so lots of mosquitos but this to be expected when visiting a farm. All in all an acceptable experience
Great food and attention
Lovely historical farm and scrumptious food. Wonderful atentive hosts. Highly recommended.
Excellent lunch and dinners! A little gem, with a really good chef!
Great wine, food, and service. And the restaurant has a lovely outdoor patio.
The best food I have ever had
Friendly owners of the guest house. Beautiful chalet
Was at the market. Loved it!
Very nice place, friendly personnel, good quality products
One of the worst ever meals we had, and we eat out a lot! From the lentils soup to bobotie samosas.. OMG! Horrific.. and then came the insipid warery tastless chicken curry... indescribable... a nightmare!!
Peaceful, romantic setting in which to enjoy a tasty meal, well prepared and served with warmth & friendliness.
This a lovely cozy restaurant, with great food, lovely wine and superb staff.
Excellent food and good service - we will be back!
Great service, nice setting, wonderful food. On the pricey side, but very good.
Awesome venue to sleep over on a wine farm, breakfast was good!!
Excellent service, lovely old world ambience and everything tastes extremely yummy....a venture into the hidden gem of rural Wellington
Lovely food, generous portions, friendly atmosphere and staff.
Excellent food, lovely venue and a great evening. Thank you so much!
Awesome experience, would recommend it to anyone. Thank you Susan Teklenberg
Beautiful surrounding pricing is a bit exspensive
Outstanding food great service well worth driving from Cape Town
Gorgeous old-wordly setting amongst the mountains and vineyards in Wellington, Cap Winelands.Good food at affordable rates.
Outstanding food in extremely pleasant surrounds.
This is a sham. If this were a review for Oude Wellington, its skewed. The restaurant doesnt exist, it is now Bar Bar Black Sheep and its mediocre to say the best. We booked for Oude Wellington based on the ratings and arrived to find Bar Bar Black Sheep which has bad rating and rightfully so, the food that you are paying a premium on all tastes like it was made in a factory. the risotto wasnt cooked through, the bitterballen were mush, the samoosas were anything but lamb boboeti and tastes like they came from a bad mass produced box. The only redeeming factor was the friendly waiter, who was hard to find even though there were only 3 tables full on the night. What a fail of something we were excited for based on the ratings of a restaurant long gone....
Food and setting was amazing.
Charming old world atmosphere. Great service!
Delicious authentic food. Try the bone marrow or the steak tartare.
This place is the living embodiment of the phrase hidden jem
Friendly service, exquisite food.
