I didnt have much time for a sitdown meal but the grim prospect of eating a drive-thru burger in my car was too much to bear. I like Pappas. The food is always fresh and flavourful- and I love their tapas-style selections that can be ordered according to appetite and mood. I also knew that I wanted a schwarma, so Pappas it was.I was distracted by the calamari starter so I decided to order that as a starter before having a yiro for lunch. Im so glad that I did because the calamari stole the show: delicate calamari heads and tubes seared to achieve a perfect caramelized crust while still being tender. So generously flavoured with garlic and lemon that youre going to wish that youd ordered a bigger portion.The yiro was also a hero with crispy shavings of beef on a bed of tzatziki wrapped up in a flatbread. It was generously packed with fillings and served with chips. Its messy and delicious so roll up your sleeves - or use cutlery if you must!What really impressed me the most were the complimentary tapas served before my meal- creamy taramasalata and an earthy hummus served with hot Greek flatbread. Restaurants are under so much strain during COVID- just like their customers, so anything complimentary is great added value. Pappas on the Square, at Sandton Square offers a range of seafood, shellfish and selected meals. Their shellfish prawns is offered in a pan with their signature lemon butter or peri peri sauce. Both simply amazing in taste. To start complimentary flat bread arrives at the table. The starter options are great; the main menu offers variety. The service was top notch. Pricing is really competitive against othe restaurants in the close vicinity. A must visit if youre in Johannesburg. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Pappas feels like the place parents take their family to on a Sunday or Saturday afternoon, very family like and warm. The service is good and the food tastes nice. I had their baby chicken dish, and I just wish that the price for the dish included sides.The restaurant is very well decorated with different types of seating areas, couches, booths and normal restaurant chairs with a well lit outside area where youll be protected from the sun during the summer days and protected from the cold during winter.

20.02.2018 Nothing beats a team lunch where you get to learn more about your colleagues and their likes and dislikes. You either bond over food or you dont, luckily for us we did.Had such a great lunch here. It was quiet on arrival but soon filled up pretty quick during the lunchtime rush. Like the look and feel of the restaurant and the musical corner of instruments which added a certain vibe. Im sure night time is just as great.They have a rather extensive menu offering, and yes some will say its on the pricy side, however when the quality and taste of the food is as good you dont mind paying.Something that caught my eye was the Soft Shell Crab in Pita, Ive hardly ever seen this on restaurant menus so I had to give it a go. My colleagues ordered a variety of meals from Oxtail, Calamari, Fish and Chips, Lamb chops and T-bone Steaks.Everything was so good. My soft shell crab had a bit more Chilli kick than I anticipated but the flavours were great and the portions were reasonable.We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals along with great laughter. Looking forward to another team lunch.

Their waiters are too desperate to give service. Please have courtesy and let a client breathe before bombarding them questioning what they would like to drink. Another funny trick Ive noticed is that a certain waiter will tell you that the kitchen will close at 7pm so that youre obliged to order before you can even go through the menu. Pappas, weve been around for years. Your waiters need orientation.

Poor service but great food and ambience.

Amazing and authentic Greek food in the heart of Sandton. Their portion sizes are a bit small but every dish is full of flavour. Their specialty is Kleftiko which is a slow-cooked lamb that tastes out of this world. We also had the Saganaki prawns - amazing! The interior of the restaurant is modern and artistic. You have to try this place out 😊

This place is very good. Right on Nelson Mandela’s square in South Africa. Complimentary pita with garlic hummus. Appetizers and dinner was delicious. We tried the small plates falafels, grape leaves, fried feta, & souvlaki. Dinner meals included lamb, Greek style shrimp with mash potatoes and 🍟 fries too. Used to be our place in Sandton, but time changes everything.Even at the express Pappas the wraps were amazing, now stuffed with cold chips and fillersPrices also have gone through the roof with the quality falling as much..

This is a super great experience for food on the square. A Great menu that really covers everyones taste including some Greek specific dishes. The cost isnt too terrible for where the restaurant is and the staff are awesome. The staff are not only friendly and efficient but very knowledgable on the menu being able to help you make good parings on the small plates of mezze. In general a great space with good inside and outside seating a really great venue for a romantic dinner or lunch or a large group.

This place is a good greek experience, where the sharing of food can be explored with friends as you dig into the platters.They can be a bit on the pricey side, especially when their portions dont encourage feasting but instead a light snacking.But the taste with all the Mediterranean flavors are definitely there.The cocktails are good, but not mind blowing but their pressed juice does almost make up for that.The service was pretty quick, sometimes you wont even notice things being cleared as your chatting away with friends, but that doesnt mean they arent smiling and helpful as they assist you where they can and patiently wait for your orders.

Nice view of the square. The food is just acceptable, my expectations of a restaurant in this location is of a higher standard. The service is way too slow for the small number of patrons in the venue. The stairs are treacherous when wet, a railing will be a prudent addition to the acces stairs. Especially when you get soaked in the rain on the uncovered stairway.

The service was very slow and the waiters wore ill-fitting masks which hardly covered their faces properly. We did not enjoy the food at all. The meat (ribs and chicken) was dry and and our chips tasted like they were prepared in used oil that had been stored for a while. Very disappointing experience.

Been to pappas on multiple occasions , as its the closest place for me to get food at work. However Im hardly satisfied with the service , Ive received incorrect orders and slow service almost everytime. Today , while they were preparing my food i watched as the staff member wasnt wearing his mask properly, exposing his nose and mouth while preparing it, his coworkers were also not wearing their masks correctly exposing their noses. On top of that i watched them cut the strawberries for my granola cup on a dirty counter. Last time i ever go there , disgusted and far from what seems safe.

Pappas on the Square has seriously deteriorated this year while escalating their prices. Do not take into account any reviews older than 10 months. Weve ordered 3 times and received *tiny* portions of main meals at over R250 each...unconscionable. Taste has also been compromised, very disappointing. NOT WORTH IT.On the Street store: Falafel very tasty but wrap hard and chewy, not great. Fresh salad, good amount of tahini.
