Thava Indian Restaurant is one of the 4 places where this restaurants operates from. Every time I visit Monte, I make sure to eat at this place only for the Spinach Chaat which is extremely nice here and nowhere else in the city of Joburg you get as good as it is here. Very near to the entrance the place is always fully booked and you need to always wait for around 30-45min if no reservations are done earlier. The staff is friendly and food is good. They do charge for the sliced onions as compared to other restaurants but its an Indian habit for me. The vegetarian food is really nice and naan is a little bit thin as compared to other restaurants. Thanks

Food here is amazing, its become comfort food. We always order the same thing. Partner gets butter chicken and I get Paneer Tikka and Peshwari Naan and garlic naan. For some reason though the hot was more hotter then usual. Guess Ill stick to medium. Try the Bombay crush as a drink, its not written on the menue... and try the Gargar halwa... not sure if its still available, wasnt on the menu. Great chai as well, great pani puri. I dint quite enjoy the paneer chilli starter...

Went before lockdown, it was a popular spot. We did not book in advance so we waited a short bit for a table. Decent indian food served. We ordered one chicken currry and one lamb. Found the portions a little on the smaller side. Tried the fried ice cream dessert which was tasty, the kulfi was not for our palates. Overall, a decent homely meal.

From the Pani Puti to the Thava prawns to the dosa and lamb curry - one meal is as incredible as the next! My favorite Indian restaurant ever! Can’t wait to go back again.

Best Indian food in JHB. The kingklip fish curry is creamy, spicy and delicious! The prawn starter is very delicious as well. Weve made a point of ordering the seafood currys here. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very nice for a date night. Will definitely highly recommend.

Authentic South Indian at its utmost bestThis is one of very few restaurants which prepares its meals consistently whenever one dines there. The ingredients are fresh, spices all imported from India and the chefs are all India trained. We ordered chicken tikka masala - extra hot / prawn biryani / vegetable pakoda / garlic naan etc All delicious mouth-watering meals. The drinks are well-priced too and the wine list is extensive. For dessert we had phyllo ice-cream covered in niys and honey. Delectable indeed!

I was at Thava for my birthday and I couldnt have chosen a better place to celebrate the milestone.The decor and ambiance are amazing with so much effort and attention to detail.We got to sample authentic Indian street food and the options they had were visually fascinating and delicious! As vegetarians they had lots of really tasty options for us with the flavours from every mouthful enticing you for another bite!The service was truly exceptional from the front of house manager offering us insight into the history of the restaurant to our friendly waiter for the evening who took really good care of our every need.Finally, to top off the excellent service, upon discovering that it was my birthday, the waiters and front of house manager sang for me, and presented me with a complimentary indian-style birthday cake and bottle of non-alcoholic wine!Thank you sssssooooo very much to the staff at Thava for their commitment to excellent service, caring for their customers and for making my birthday a truly special and memorable one, I truly appreciate it.😌🙏🏽

Ordered online , the restaurant cut my order in half , when i called to add food to the order is they made a clear mistake they refused to add the additional dishes they missed off ! The Indian Restuarnt manager was extremely rude and point blank refused to add additional food to my order and shouted at me to take my problems to Uber ! I then asked to cancel my whole order , 10 minutes the Uber guy was at my door asking for payment on half a food order. With less than average food !Worst customer service I have experienced , cold with less than average food . AVOID unless you wish for disappointment

To start, my waiter was really good and knowledgeable. Smiled and laughed the whole time. I wanted a proper curry, and this place delivered on that, how they dont have all 5 stars is beyond me. Everything about my dish was great, yes I could probably knick pick some fine details, but there is a reason they have been put on the Amex Fine dining list, and they not even expensive

I love Indian food and Thava is the place for it. No complaints whatsoever. I ordered the butter chicken, the chicken was moist and delicious. I recommend the ice cream wrapped in phyllo pastry for dessert, I ordered an extra one because it was so good. They also do bunnies if you ask.

Right, I decided to try out Thava at Monte. Firstly, the decor and ambience is great. The menu is a bit on the pricy side but it is Monte. I like the variety of dishes. Take Paneer for example, you can choose Makhni, Tikka, Korma or Vindaloo, and they all seem authentic.I went for the Paneer Vindaloo - very authentic and spicy. Take my advice, you should order a lamb or paneer vindaloo, a jug of water, and sit in your corner and enjoy. You get rice but the optional Naan was a bit dry.The highlight for me was the Dosa. I would say that their dosa is on par with Saravana Bhavan. I’m coming back for this.The waiters and service were average on my visits. The one individual in particular was easily confused.I also finished off the one meal with a Bombay Crush (pictured). Again, I’m very happy - it’s worth risking diabetes for this (especially after a vindaloo)

I had high hopes for my first dining experience at this restaurant and I was absolutely disappointed.Waiting time on meals were not as long. The staff was very friendly and helpful.However, the meals itself, we did not enjoy.We had ordered the 1/2 chicken meal (which was served with a handful of chips only) , along with the chicken and prawn curry (I had about 4 shrimp).I even fell sick on the way home, it was horrible 👎🏼I know indian food, and this style of cooking was definitely different.

A friend of mine was getting married and had just been disappointed by one of the restaurants we had booked. Then while looking for a place to eat we came across Thava, they were INCREDIBLE, amazing, very helpful, their services was on point and more than what we expected. If you reading this, I recommend this restaurant to you. It did not disappoint even one bit. The manager and the staff are all welcoming and kind.The food is also amazing it wont disappoint.

The food is good, not sure how else to say this... But yes, food is good. Third time that I eat at Thava Monte Casino, (needed to make sure) . Our waitron was quite busy, but service was good. Whats nice is the table rice offered. Naan breads, pompadoms and roti will need to be ordered and paid for. The decor and ambience is relaxed. When available, try the food from their Street car window.

Specifically this branch serves prepared food, warms it and serves it. If we had another option of Indian restaurant at Monte Casino we would rather select another over this restaurant.

If you are from Durban and used to eating curry at the likes of TSD and Orientals an think that Thava will meet your expectations, think again.

We met a friend there on Thursday night for an unplanned dinner. Arrived just before 7.30 and were shocked that we managed to snag the last table (we never even thought anywhere would be full)- the restaurant was packed. Looking around it seemed to be the only place that was full on a Thursday night. Our friend had been once before and not only did the manager greet him like a long lost friend, he even remembered what he had ordered the last time and his dietary requirements. The food was superb and one feels like part of an extended family! We were welcomed with starters on the house and other delights were added to our ordered meal. The manager is fantastic- well worth a visit- I will definitely be going back.

Had my family over from Durban and decided to try Thava out. The service was amazing and the food was awesome . There were 7 of us and every meal we ordered was perfect . From presentation to taste it was a 10/10. The manager was walking the floor to make sure each diner was happy with their food and service . We will definitely be back again.

Bad food - worse serviceI placed a takeaway order with an attendant (who was very distracted by other customers) who failed to write down one of the main meals I requested (she was too busy taking in a cake from guests who had just arrived and chivvied me off to the side MID-ORDER). We therefore only received part of the order and the quality of the food was very poor. I order the exact same dish from the Norwood branch and have done for many years but what I received was clearly a lower quality (and I received a hot when ordered a medium - same happened with one of the other mains).Utterly appalled and will NEVER be going back to this branch as it goes about ruining an otherwise great reputation of Thava.

From Midrand Thava to Monte Casino Thava....we have always had exceptional service from the time my wife was dating till we got married....they always went out of their way to make it special for us....although not even knowing us hence we have always tried to support them. Special thanks to Yasar, the Manager at Thava Monte Casino. I strongly recommend them, as they always go the extra mile :).

Beautiful setting, adequate flavours compared to the price however we will not be back.The manager Viban? Has a bad habit of hovering way longer than is necessary to the point that it makes enjoying a meal very difficult. Its also highly annoying that he goes around mentioning the calibre of clientele. Is it meant to impress?One can be professional without being annoying
