Top Hat Bakery produces the most amazing and delicious baked goods. As long as they are around I will continue to support them. Totally enjoy their baked goods. The service is awesome. If you dont want to stand in a que I suggest to arrive early at the bakery. Every item it freshly baked every morning. Love Top Hat.π€
Service levels have dwindled. Things are usually not ready when the store opens. The listed contact number does not work. The new guy at the till lacks customer relationship skills. When the owner used to manage the front end, you were always acknowledged and greeted. Sad.
One of my favorite bakeries. Cream puffs are the best. Take away food is just as good. Owner or man at the till could be a little less aggressive towards his staff
The food is good. However, the only reason I cannot give it a 5 star rating is simply bcos of this. The service is shockingly BAD an absolutely dismal. I suppose this is what happens wen its operated an run by family members of the owner. Someone needs to teach that guy behind the till some manners. Hes rude and obnoxious. This is not what we are used to in Gauteng, we are used to service excellence and polite shop owners who are grateful for the support
Went to the bakery today. The man behind the till was very rude.. He lacks simple manners and etiquette... I didnt have any issues with the food or the bakery stuff ... However the service of the man behind the till is pathectic... And sadly... People are what drives a business as well
Great food for sure, customer service not their thing
Love the eggless cakes and pastries. Unfortunately been there 4 weeks in a row to buy the vada and the reason differs regarding why there isnt any available. The lady who makes it is sick The vadas are still being fried the owner and the sales lady cant tell you when it will be ready. Only available after 12pm when you do arrive then there isnt any to buy. Please dont have a sign that says fresh Vada daily if you cant provide to your customers!
No. 1 Bakery in joburg. I only go there. Also best for egg free bakery products.
Food is always amazing. #Great Service
Do not buy curries from this shop. The curry is watery and has no flavour, the cashier is rude and had the nerve to tell a customer that they sell 3000 doughnuts a week after the customer decided to not buy the doughnuts because its overpriced at R16.00. After the customer left, the man even said that if they dont like the price that they should go to Spar and not come here. Please rather buy your cream doughnuts from PnP Summerfields @ R11 (theyre better than the ones from this establishment) or Olivedale Spar @ R9.00.
Best bakery...so consistent with their goodiesIm a very happy customer, always :)
Quick, efficient service. Smiles for everyone. Top quality as always
I found out about this place from a friend after Iβd been searching literally FAR AND WIDE for βDurban Snowballsβ that Iβd grown up with.Needless to say, I found what I was looking for as well as many other things that not a lot of local bakeries sell in and around the Randburg area....stuff like Buttercream Doughnuts, Mutton Pies, Lamingtons, Cheap Rotiβs, etc.Pros:β’Things are cheapβ’The options are very Familiar for Durbanitesβ’Thereβs plenty parkingβ’Staff are very friendlyCons:β’The store gets crowded FASTβ’Because there are such a few things that they put out at a time, youβll have to Wait for them to bring out more things. But by the time you notice that theyβve run out of things, thereβs usually someone that brings out a fresh batch from the back of the store which is worth the wait...
By far the best fresh cream donut you will ever have!Other stuff is really good too.
Wonderfull place for eats
Firm favourite for Durban style food and treats. Always good and tasty
Yoooooh, What an amazing bunny chow. If you are in the Randburg area on Malibongwe. You will spend the best R75 of your life if you order a lamb bunny chow... Super Fresh bakery. Well done guys, really π
Fresh doughnuts, fresh rotis , fresh pies, fresh pastries, fresh bunny chows. A colleague introduced me to this bakery and I would go there any day to buy my goodies. Thank you so much for the great service as well. And always lending a helping hand.
Loved the fresh cakes & savories.
Quality of food from top hat bakery is bad, I purchased chicken pies from this store and when I opened the packaging to consume the item, I noticed that it was not cooked on the inside, I took the item back to the store and was approached by a person who I think is the owner, he denied that the item was uncooked and became rather rude in the process, screaming and shouting at a customer, this is very poor business practice and the establishment should close its doors if they are unable to meet the standards of food safety and quality that is expected.I would recommend not to support a business who does not care about its customers and quality of food.
Good little bakery in the Randburg area. Curries are average quality but decently priced. Baked goods were tasty but way overpriced for basics like cream doughnuts and eclairs. Pricing model needs to be relooked at!
Best Butter Cream Donuts.Freshes Bread, Burger buns and Rolls.
Top Beans bunny, must try
Lamb rotties ans bunnies are to die for , spicy but not too hot, with extra πΆ chillies on the sideπ
The lamb curry and chicken peri pies best Ive ever had . :)
Freshly made goods , love everything , especially the pies and samoosas ππ€
Best Durban favourites. Cream puffs. Snowballs and long doughnuts. Dont miss Durban any more. Delicious. Thank u top hat bakery!
Love your bunnies
Go there for the naan and scones ... tops ... the best u can find.

Need to be more pleasant. Although the bakery is quite nice.
My husband went in this morning. The bunny chows were tasteless and watered down. The snowballs were dry. The twist doughnuts tasted like cough syrup with the sugar coating extremely rough. Very disappointed as this is the first time we ordered food and most certainly will not be ordering again.
The food is good. Prepared like you would at home. The only issue is the slow service, the owners like operating the till. They also donβt take orders to collect, βout of fear you not going to pickupβ. The snowballs (not red cake like lens calls it) is exactly like you would have in Durban. The puff pastries are also divine.
Been to this Top Hat Bakery as well as the one in Midrand - both had delicious and fresh Durban style fresh cream doughnuts - very nostalgic. Bought naan from the Malibongwe branch and it was fresh - takes you back to Durban. Good friendly service, fresh goods and competitive pricing. Definitely worth a visit
Very attentive staff...owner was abit in his own world....bought the naan which was decent for an eggless product, doughnuts were good, roti was also good. Good bakery for the basics but nothing spectacular to write home about.Would recommend this store if you in the area, not somewhere worth making a drive for.
Very nice cakes enjoy going there
The absolute best bunny chows and delicious sweet pastries
Best bunny
Food is ALWAYS fresh and DELICIOUS. Awesome family business. Food is prepared on the property with lots of love. You can taste the love
Always good quality, and pleasant service.
Lovely food
Cakes were very nice
The bakery items are great and good quality, the fast food is not. We sampled a selection of pies, i.e. mutton curry, chicken & mushroom and chicken peri peri - The crust of the pies are very thick and hardly any filling in any of the pies - This never used to be the case!!The kebabs in the kebab chutney were not fully cooked and very fatty.Mutton curry was more bones than good pieces of meat.Look for the price I think the quality is justified, but this is not 5 star quality.
Best bunny chows. Great selection of freshly baked goods.
The fresh cream doughnuts and pastries are absolutely delicious! They also make home made and freshly baked pies (you gotta try the mutton curry pie). They also sell bunnies and variety curry. No beef and pork.
Great service.Good food thats reasonably priced.Enjoyable experience.
Absolutely yummy treats. The meals are fabulous. The bunny is 1 of the best
Really good pastries. Will try the curries soon. Always very busy so it has to be good too!
Been going here since they first opened (a year or two back.. I think) and coming from Durban myself, there is something special about the baked Goods they make. Totally recommend them to elevate my sweet tooth itch and if you need a more savoury option or a quick take away, they have the famous Bunny Chows, lamb burgers and pies. Havent been disappointed yet, run by a successful Mom and Dad too, so adds that sweet parental touch that we all kinda need now and again.
Great little bakery. Picked up a birthday cake and some pastries. Absolutely fresh and delicious. Not expensive either.
Nice
The best pastries in jhb
New to this bakery and still have to try the assortment of dished and sweet treats offered. I did buy some cake and it was delicious.
Homely, affordable and tasty treats ( both sweet and savoury)
Good, affordable food. Lovely, newly renovated shop.
Was ok, Lamb bunny was watered down, Kabaab bunny was bland and like a chutney
Nice variety of cakes, samoosas , rolls etc.
Tasty delicious Indian cuisine never tasted such delicious samoosas
Food is nice but the staff are exceptionally rude.
Excellent curries...but there were too many flies even with fans blowing throughout the shop.
Was a five star ..new guy at the till a bit unprofessional.
Family run business. Delicious Indian curry, bunnies, cakes and pastries(eggless). The mutton curry toasted sandwich is a must. You can get naan bread, hot dog rolls etc.
If you want fresh authentic durban mutton curry pies, bunny chowsetc this place is a must.the fresh cream donuts are so so so delicious.be warned your visit may lead to many many more. simply the best!
Amazing pastries and curries the only issue would be the slow service.
Best scones in the world, go first thing in the morning!
Great quality hot food.
Shockingly bad customer service. Treat customers like ur doing them a favor.
Great bakery, good substitute for Durban baked goods. Bunny-chow is very good. Try the Snowballs, its a must
Delicious toasted cheese and beans curry!!!ππ
If u miss durian, with regards to authentic Indian food and delicacies, then is your place to be absolutely delicious and mouth watering food
Selection of cakes. Take away food sold. Could do with better portions and more meat in servings
My favorite bakery. The best cakes and pastries
Amazing baked goods
Best bunny chow by far in Jhb! And the pastries and baked goods are delicious as well π
Best place to get all your bakes. Yummiest Doughnuts, samoosas ohh and the Cream Puffs are to die for! I never know what to buy as all the baked goodies behind that glass jus say eat me, eat me
Food was okay but Not going back there. I was robbed and car broken into I was parked just outside the store and all my valuables and work laptop was stolen. Guards are none existent and No CCTVs anywhere in the shopping complex!
Such friendly helpful people and delicious food!
This place is amazing! Definitely try out the Indian food and bakery.
10/10
Love their pastries
Best food Ever , went at 12:18 and the mutton curry was out :(
Fresh cream donuts, bar one slices to die for.
Best Bunny Chow in town! Great fresh cream cakes and doughnuts
Having tried the vast majority of go-to bunny-chow joints in the Randburg area this one stands out!
Great food. Great prices.
Everything is so fresh and tasty.
Best Mutton curry pies in Jozi, just like the original ones from the old Victory Lounge in Durban in the 70s & 80s
Nice place to get fresh and tasty food.
Great Durban baked goods and Indian fast foods
Good food at good prices.
Best cream puffs and doughnuts in Joburg and Midrand. The Kebab chutney and roti and their lamb bunny chows are the best.
I enjoy their spicy food options, baked goods
Awesome baked goodies
Tasty food and good prices
Food wasnt great, Very bland for indian food
Good selection. Nice bunny chows
