ID application process for my daughter took 15 minutes... I even forgive the long wait in the que. The only home affairs that wanted to help us.TIP for newbies arrive no later than 05h30, I know they only open at 08h30 but that way youll get a ticket number which guarantees entrance. Avoid disappointment when they cut the que and send people home. If you cant stand for too long bring a chair & snacks. Dont drink too much water while still outside youll only have access to toilets once you make it in

Wish I could rate this home affairs with a 10 out of 5!!!!!!!Oh my golly I cant believe this home affairs has such a low rating, I was there this afternoon and from walking in at the door straight through to walking back out, I received the best and kindest service Ive received at any home affairs.Im truly thankful for this amazing experience, and I didnt even wait long... From start to Finnish must have taken me 15 min max and I didnt even feel the time go by due to the fact that the people there are so friendly!!!!!!Never going to another home affairs again, was my first time here, and I would advise it to ANYONE! I even had a conversation with the man helping with my documentation and he made me laugh!!!! Like yes, I laughed in a home affairs, sounds so out there, but looking forward for my collection, I know its going to go just as smooth.THANK YOU ALL FOR YOU KIND SERVICE!!! A rather bittersweet experience.I went to do application for birth for my daughter. As home affairs is popularly known for its long queues, my husband and I decided to get there as early as possible, 5:30am to be exact so as to avoid waiting in those long lines. Weathering a cold snap morning we were greeted by the security who advised us correctly in which queue to line up as there are multiple queues.Unfortunately for us the office only opened their doors on that cold morning at 9:30am due to a memorial service which was held for one of their employees. Quite frustrating but with all due respect, I think this could’ve happened outside of operating hours.Nonetheless, once they opened and allowed us in, it took us no longer than 20 minutes to get our daughter registered and her birth certificate issued immediately. The lady who assisted us even went as far as to issue us our marriage certificate( R20.00) without hesitation, I commend her for going beyond what was required for us.Tip:If you are married, it’s advised that only one of you go to do the registration as long as you take both ID’s, copy of ID’s, marriage certificate and proof of birth from the hospital. Also, please adhere to all COVID 19 regulations.

I went to the Pretoria Home Affairs on two separate occasions. First to apply for a stolen ID document and few months later for a new passport document application. Both instances I was quite surprised at the times one has to wait. When I went to apply for a new ID smart cart the time spent was almost 2 hours, and one can understand as it was the end of the month and I did arrive there only after 11AM. The collection of the ID smart card was quick and efficient (the ID was ready the following week!).Application for a new passport was very quick. In and out in about 40 minutes and I arrived there at about 12PM. What really impressed me was that the passport was ready in five work days! I always believed it takes weeks. Collection was also very quick having arrived again around 12PM. In and out in about 40 minutes.Pretoria Home Affairs Department deserve more than just 5 stars! Their system works and the staff (those who have served me) was friendly and efficient. Thank you!

The lack of efficient infrastructure is at least mildly overshadowed by friendly staff. They have potential to do a great work, but honestly, can someone fix this place internally. Efficiency at best. Rynhardt Oberholzer’s review on the office was spot on and very helpful in securing parking and knowing which queue to go to. Thank you. I was in the queue (3rd floor; about 17 people ahead of me in the queue) by 6:30 attended to when doors opened at 8:00am and was out by 9:30am. Staff were kind and helpful. There was a member of staff available as early as 6:30am, making rounds ensuring each and everyone was in the right queue. It was such a delight to see efficiency and transparency.

I went to Pretoria to cancel my old (married name) passport and reapply (in my maiden name) for a new passport. I did EVERYTHING correctly. I went upstairs and changed my name back to maiden name with my divorce certificate. I stood in the lines I needed to stand in. I paid the money I needed to pay. I sat in front of the people who took my finger prints and my photo and applied in the computer for the new married name passport. I sat there while the lady dealing with my application (whos manners were left to be desired) when she called the manager over, who came and overrode the system to cancel my old married name passport so that my new maiden name passport could be issued!! I got told everything was good and my new passport would be issued in 10 to 20 days! Well..... I got a text saying they couldnt process my application and it basically boils down to the fact that nobody can understand that I want to cancel old passport and reissue a new one with my old maiden name! I have called Pretoria, I have called the contact center. My advice is dont bother because I have received all sorts of different stories about what is going on. I have never in my life, experienced such bad service. It is unbelievable! I feel sorry for the people of South Africa as this country is in trouble when the people dealing with a simple matter of cancelling an old passport and reissuing a new passport in a maiden name, just cant simply grasp the idea and do their jobs! Unbelievable

There was no load shedding or network issues at the time. Tell the people to go home then. Admin and management will forever be south africas downfall.

Hi there, I would like to commend this home affairs office. I applied for an unabridged birth certificate for the first time and they processed the application then and there. The birth certificate cost R75 and I received it on the spot.Unfortunately I cannot say the same for home affairs as a whole, since I think the fast turnaround time is the exception and not the norm. With the bad press regarding long waiting times and lost applications, I was willing to pay for my application on the same day. Because I was not sure of the procedure and what was waiting for me, I was easy prey for a con artist, waiting outside the home affairs office. He took my money and disappeared. Please do not trust these skelms. You can get you unabridged birth certificate printed on the spot at this home affairs office!Be very careful!

You first queue outside, then upstairs by the greeter, who checks your stuff on the system, then you wait in another queue only to be told it’s no ready, what’s the point of the greeter checking the stuff. All government run institutions are beyond useless, everything is chaotic. The staff, government and Minister of Home Affairs (ok he is a moron so I kind of understand) should actually be ashamed. Guide to this home affairs office:Parking: There is a open patch of ground just past the home affairs office (on the right hand side if you turn left on Nana Sita), R15 for full day parking. You get a ticket on your car that shows you may park there.Queues: The first queue (towards Francis Baard) is for all applications, the queue in the middle is for collections (ID, Passport) and the last queue (towards Nana Sita) is for certificate(birth, death, marriage etc.) applications AND collections. There is sometimes a fourth queue but this is for old or disabled people.Other: There are people outside asking you if you need photos taken for your application. Do not use these as photos gets taken inside and they do not accept any outside photos. The ticketing system doesnt always display the number on screen that gets called so listen carefully for your number.I would recommend getting there at around 07:30 as the queues wont be as bad. Did my passport application within two hours, got a notification it was ready after five days and collected it within 30min.

The lady who helped me on the third floor, third counter in collections, told me then, the requirements and told me we can come back next day before 4 pm. My husband asked permission at work. We arrived at 3:40 this guy Msimanga Mabutile told me they closed at 3:30 and didnt let us get inside even with the doors still open and people inside. The info on the web page said they close at 4pm. I took his name because he was extremely rude. I was taking photo of them not allowing people to go inside still on working hours and he violently grabbed me and hit me because I was taking photos. We came back on Friday 19 of January, at 3:25 they allowed us to go to the third floor and the people there told us the office was closed already. That mean this office dont close at 3:30, they leave at 3:30. At least be honest and change the working hours to 3 pm. It is insulting and Unnaceptable.
