This is the worst hospital in Pretoria East! Understaffed. Some rude and impatient nurses. One sister Gillian Acker was so awful up me and ny 16 month old son when he wasn’t able to keep his drip arm straight (as if he would know or better yet comprehend what is going on) she went on to say “Mam this ICU he needs to keep these things on so we monitor him otherwise you must back to paediatrician ward!” Bad attitude irritable no bedside manner. This is in addition to the fact we spent 3-4 hours in emergency waiting to be attended with a case of severe allergic reaction. The paed ward has two people managing it. for both isolation and normal patient which means the cross floors when each should have its own staff to mitigate against cross infection. You have to wait hours to receive attention. This used to be a good hospital but for the last few years it continues to deteriorate. Utterly disappointed and upset!

I was admitted into Kloof in September 2020 and spent 21 days total under the care of Dr van Staden who was excellent in his approach and handling of my condition. The hospital staff were outstanding. My experience right from casualty and admittance into the to the wards was done very efficiently. In the wards, the nurses, without exception, were very caring and friendly and also treated me with respect for my age. Day or night they would respond promptly considering that there 400 other patients. I cannot praise the nursing staff enough.Meals were very good. Choice from menu, never cold, fresh and wholesome food. Meals were the highlight of the day.

A public hospital might be able to better help if you have an emergency. Most useless emergency room ever experienced. Very interested in making sure you can pay the bills, but not at all interested in providing quality care. Such a shame that even the public hospitals are going to sh*t. Upon complaining to smanagement of the hospital - they very conveniently dismiss my frustration because the emergency room is an independent company and not part of the hospital. Why not take some responsibility and initiative to keep the emergency room opperate effectively... Because it is easier to do nothing. Dont visit them. Save yourself the disappointment.UPDATE: I was quite surprised that Management made contact and were very interested to find out what the cause was for my bad experience and indicated that they would very much like to solve the problems. Ive not visited the hospital since; so cannot provide feedback as to whether anything changed.

I went for an op today got in early as the doctor requested I was going to theater at 8.on several occasions I asked the staff can they please help me in on theater at 8 and need to finish the admission the superviisor was very rude telling me to take a seat. What mkae me angry is at from 6 we were a sitting whilst walk in patients that were not on the list for early surgery was attended too first so much for his system it was chaos my surgeon looked for me twice and well as the anesthesian. Theater wash help up for almost 45 minutes due to the negligence of the admission staff. Rude as hell. Am really disgusted at the superviisor attitude. He should actually find something where thinking and empathy towards patients are not needed. I asked him twice and he was rude and not very helpful at all the system that they has was chaos. The attitude of staff is really rotten. Get them some people skill or is it because the color of my skin that I was treated that way. I must say the staff at the ward and doctors were excellent nurses in ward told me to calm down we will try and go to theater asap. You have wonderful nursing staff but an embarrassing front of house admission you should hold them accountable nothing less. My stay by my doctor Jaytesh Pillay was comforting as he checked on me all the time very professional and a lot of empathy towards his patients. Excellent doctor and I just want to say thank u to his staff and all his help. Your supervisor should probably be removed go on a course for customer service and not be such an inconsiderate piece of work. Find a system thats works I had to beg them to attend to me yet when I went to the ward people after me where attended to first and got to the ward when theater was only from 10 for them. Really sad it made feel like only certain people were attended to and the rest of us was whatever yet it was half past 7 I told him please help me Im going in at 8 he said go have a seat theres people before me. I must say I will always visit kloof because of great nursing staff excellent actually and a great doctor Jaytest apillay as well as his anesthesian. We done doctors and nurses. As for the supervisor at admissions he should be set in a disciplinary and not be such a rude peirce of work. Disgusting

First of all, most of the nurses in the paediatric ward are lovely and can speak Afrikaans. But i expected a bit more from this place. My baby was admitted on a Monday evening through the Emergency room. We were just taken to the room, signed some papes and handed a page with visiting info. The next morning we didnt get breakfast until after 9 am because they didnt know we were in the room. Not once was i informed where to get coffee or who to ask. Apparently i had to bring my own towels??? Who knew.On the visiting info page it mentions that the other parent can relieve the one staying over from 6 to 10 am. And then visiting hours are from 10 am. When my husband arrived around 8 am he was told its not visiting hours yet and he cannot relieve me coz he doesnt have a covid neg test. So my question is, he could visit me from 10am until eve with no covid test, but cannot relieve me during the morning hours??? How does that work Kloof?

I cannot comment on doctors, theatres and intensive/ high care for procedures, but my experience with reception and the general ward was terrible. It took 2 hours to check in, with staff being rather unprofessional, bordering on disrespectful by not addressing me by my name instead insisting on calling me mamma. Ward staff all seem to be wearing the same uniform, from cleaners to nurses without name tags and to identify their status and take great offence when requested to lower their voices. The wards are incredibly noisy for a hospital. It seems the staff prefer people to be half dead with no voice, than have someone be awake and aware enough to question their actions. Funny how when one points out short comings one gets labelled as difficult. Kloof Mediclinic ...epic FAIL.

I went to the emergency room on Monday afternoon just to have a thorn removed from my foot. I was sure there was still some of the thorn left in my foot, the doctor quickly looked at my foot and then sent me for a sonar. The doctor doing the sonar said there was nothing in my foot which I was sceptical about. Then back to the emergency room where the doctor did not look at my foot again after asking him to and sent me home with a prescription for some antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. Then today I removed the 1 cm piece of thorn from my foot ... thanks for not listening to the concerns of you patient and making me pay R 1800 for terrible treatment. No nurses around while patients in his ward were vomiting, others moan with pain and his urine bottle half-full were hanging on his bed bottle hanging on his bed-rail. A half-full pot with vomit on his table. One of the other ward patients assisted him when he started to vomit. His pain tablets lying on his side table. When I went to complain at the duty room, one nurse told me curtly she will report it!My sister and their daughter make his bed and wash him. No no no!The parking tickets are timed 10 minutes early, so if you leave within 30 minutes on your watch, you have actually parked for 40 minutes and have to pay R7.00. The hospitals Emergency Room is probably the best in the area. They attend immediately and doctors are almost immediately available to assess your condition. The high care and intensive care staff also seems to be on the ball. They have strict rules and attend to problems immediately. The normal wards have some very good staff and then other staff that should not be in nursing at all. The one day the care is fantastic and when the next person comes on shift, it is an unfriendly environment and you have to notify the staff when drips should be changed and medication is due and so on. If they could only get rid of the people that should not have been in the medical profession, then it would have been the perfect hospital.

I went to the Kloof hospitals ER with double pneumonia. Doctors and nurses here were wonderful. Diagnosed me and got on with getting me admitted and treated. I went into high care. Nurses and sisters here are attentive and caring. The problem arose when they needed to use an oxygen machine they had never used. They tried everything, even fetching the ICU staff to help them. How can the hospital have staff that have not been trained in using certain machines? I found the whole process intrusive and very degrading even though I understand that they were trying to get me better. I found them forceful with no understanding of customer care. Then we come to the general ward sisters. These dont really care about patients. They are unfriendly and everything seems just too much effort for them. The ones that seemed more caring were the night sisters.Even though I did get better and was discharged in much better health, I think the doctor was the hero. Yes there were some sisters that were excellent and Im sorry I cant remember their names, I feel such a hospital should have much more competent staff. 100% of their staff should be outstanding not just 50%.Overall I was disappointed. After all, this is a private hospital and one expects the best!!!

Both my babies were born at Kloof. While some of the staff in the postnatal maternity ward are wonderful, there are a few who made my experience unpleasant. I had chosen not to use a dummy in the first 6 weeks in keeping with all recognised breastfeeding guidelines. I was repeatedly made to feel as if this was the reason my baby was crying. I got the impression they havent been trained adequately in breastfeeding support - what to say, how to encourage. Just general support like youre doing okay, its normal for babies to want to feed so much in the beginning, its how your body knows to let your milk come in would have been wonderful but they didnt seem to know this. One nurse in the baby room in particular, when I needed to take my medication and eat breakfast with the pills, said to me that she couldnt take my baby in the baby room if I refused to give her a dummy. They need to stop pushing dummies onto new moms who dont want to use them. They need to get educated on all the research on why dummies are a bad idea in the first 6 weeks. They need to start following the recommended breastfeeding guidelines. They need training in the practical and interpersonal aspects of breastfeeding support. I have seen public hospitals that are better at the baby friendly initiative. They also forgot to check my wound and change my bandage before discharge. And the nurses wrote on my discharge form that my breasts were soft and not tender. Which was a lie as not one of them had checked or even asked me about it and in fact they were lumpy and engorged. Overall, the experience was still okay, but they need more training and accountability and should stop taking shortcuts.

I was twice at the emergency room with my kids. First they told me that I need to pay R2000 before I can get to see any Dr. Second time was Thursday with my little girl that was heavily dehydrated and ill she had rota virus - beside the point the admin staff at the emergency room came to me and told me that I have to pay everything out of my own pocket seen as that there is awaiting period on my medical aid. Phoned my medical aid today just to find out Kloof never even bothered to phone the medical aid they just assumed this so I went home with my girl and had to battle to get her beter and hydrated again because it is apparently to hard too pick up a phone and confirm if there is a waiting period but it is easier to say there is seen as in time of crisis that is what parents think off to check whether the people at the emergency room is doing there work.

Sat there for almost 45 minutes before someone took my sons temp, weight and blood pressure, waited another 15 minutes for the admin lady to decide if she wants to help us as she was busy with another gentlemen arguing about an unpaid medical bill...... I understand that the bill needs to be paid and monies can be discussed, but damn, do this after you have stabilized the patient, it is afterall an EMERGENCY. They should change the name of the ER ward to after hours doctor consultation. I took my son elsewhere and received the type of service from Eugene Marais hospital that you would expect from an Emergency Ward. Kloof can learn from this hospital. The time spent waiting at Kloof was double the time it took me to drive to Eugene Marais Hospital and Kloof will read more from me in the newspapers.

She had a jaw operation and had ice packs that needed to be frozen and applied to the area operated on, the freezers at the hospital did not freeze one of the ice packs, this is really pathetic! The ward service was nothing short of pathetic, I left PTA at around 19:00 and asked a nurse on the way out to please give my wife some water, at 20:00 she still had no water after she asked another two times. The lady across from her bed in the ward had a bed pan that was used during the evening due to gastro, the bed pan was not cleaned during the evening and when I arrived at the hospital at 09:00 the nurses only started cleaning.
