I forgot take photos of the meals, but they were well presented. I am not a fish connoisseur, so I also relied on the 6 others with me for this review. They all rated the fish as amazing, with one saying the best fish they have ever had. I myself found the soft texture a little “too soft”. Also there are no photos as we had a bit of a wait, but it seemed worth the meal. Definitely worth trying and judging for yourself. It is a very nice atmosphere.
This place was recommended to us a few times and we were not disappointed. Awesome menu options, great presentation of food which was tasty and incredibly fresh. Not too expensive, especially given the quality of food, crockery, view and enjoyable chic decor and style of the place. I really loved the artichoke and mushroom dim sum but honestly everything was delicious. There are many other dishes I would come back to try. Will definitely recommend it ourselves
Seafood platter was great! Service was good. If you love seafod....this restaurant is the perfect choice...!
Such a beautiful, stylishly appointed, well managed restaurant with a stunning view and unique menu. The food was absolutely delicious and pricing was competitive. We had fish cakes for starters, Grilled Hake for main and Creme Brule for desert. Meals that sound so plain, but were tarted up to the next level. Highly, HIGHLY recommended.
Thank you to the floor manager on duty last night, 29.09.2021.You made it possible for my 86 year old father and my physically challenged friend to also enjoy the excellent food at the Fat Fish. Thank you for your kindness and the assistance to get them in the restarant. All done with big smiles, never making anyone feeling as if they are a burden.Busi, we met you for the 1st time last year and there you were our waitress again last night. You are an exceptional waitress! Thank you so much for ensuring we had a evening to remember.
My golly gooddness...this chef has has cooked a fish or two in his life!
The food is out of my expectations. The fish ceviche is amazing.
Came for a quick lunch after swimming with seals in Oct 2019. Quite simply, some of the freshest fish available in the Plettenberg area.+ Platters of mouthwatering original dishes. Epic fish and chips (couldnt help myself) and prawns to drool over.+ Ideally situated on central beach, with amazing views+ Casual and up-beat vibe with open verandah with undercover area inside+ Team were friendly and helpful with choosing from an original menu made to look like a newspaper- Nothing negative about our experience.Definitely worth it if you are in or passing the Plettenberg area.
Very nice place to eat. The fish was delicious and service friendly and efficient. A definite go back.
Whao what a fantastic experience.I was wanting a nice piece of fish for so long now and could not have picked a better place to go too. While eating I could imagine the chef buying the fish from the fisherman that afternoon and putting his/her passion for preparing a meal to work. So fresh so well prepared. The staff is very friendly and adds to the experience.Well done and I will always refer people to this restaurant.
The Fat Fish is one of those gems of a restaurant we discovered during one of our trips to Plett. Since then it is often a topic of conversation...ooh what are you going to have the next time we go to Fat Fish. We have never been disappointed yet. Whatever you order it is delicious. They cater to almost every palate. They seafood is so beautifully fresh it really is worth the little extra money you will spend. Although Fat fish may seem a little pricey to some, they are absolutely value for money. Not only in the quality of food or portions, but also ambience, friendly helpful service AND overall wonderful experience. We highly recommend Fat Fish to anyone but especially seafood lovers.
One eats out to relax and be served. To see the menu is daunting for most because you have to scan a code which then takes you to a website and then you view it via your phone. The website menu has prices and a cart so u assume this is how you order your food but then a waiter appears to take your order. By then you are tired and annoyed. If you want take away you order online. Collect or deliver. When dining out you want to avoid any effort from your side. All we could talk about was the fact that we had to view the menu via a website using our phones. No talk of food or service.
Thank you for meal that was very enjoyable. It was cold outside but fire made it warm. Food was very good.
Absolutely value for money. Food was good and hot.Service friendly and efficient.
Welcoming staff excellent meal thanks for a great evening
The most amazing food and service ever ! Very pleasant environment 😃
Vibey restaurant with excellent and generous seafood portions. Friendly service. In the evenings, best to make a booking.
The Fat Fish remains our favorite restaurant when we visit Plettenberg Bay.The food is consistently excellent, a great ambience and Thando provided top class service. We enjoyed both the steak and the fish, compliments to the chef. Thank you for a super evening.
Wonderful food..service excellent..view spectacular .thank you
There is both indoor and outdoor seating which has a beautiful view of the ocean that gives the restaurant a relaxed atmosphere. The service was friendly and accommodating with our young child. The food was really tasty. I had the Grilled Hake & Sesame Fried Calamari and I was surprised with the unique addition of the sesame seeds that were added. And the digital menu was an excellent practical step in place to prevent covid transmission.
Excellent food and lovely restaurant. We had a really pushy waitress, but I would still highly recommend this restaurant. We ate fish platter for 2, and hake and chips. Hake was so fresh and soft, was fabulous
Nice name, high expectations. Good service, good food, nice setting, satisfied but lacked sparkle........
I do not like Chilli at all but the Chilli butter baby kingklip is amazing
Food wasn’t that good. For sure the seafood was frozen not fresh. The stars for the Service and interior design
We spotted the Fat Fish after our visit of Robberg nature reserve hiking in Plettenberg Bay. We tried arancini and tuna tatake as appetizers and loved both, continued with grilled hake and baby potatoes which was delicious as well as the parmesan crumble kingflip. We like the rest so much we came a second time two days later after our Addo park and Taitsikama visit and went for the rich creamy Mussel soup, Salmon poke bowl and Spinach ravioli. I took a Franschoek sauvignon with the meal and i have to say we loved every single thing of this restaurant. the meals are delicious, the atmosphere is nice and the service is super. highly recommend.
Sat outside this time and found it more enjoyable than inside. We were 3 and we ordered the parmesan kingklip, very tasty but needs more flavor. Couldnt taste the parmesan at all. Seafood linguine. Delicious, quite a large portion. Plenty of prawns and fish along with mussels. And the final dish was Grilled prawns with chips. Also excellent.
We loved it. Food is fantastic. Great location and very friendly staff. Service is quick and we had a lovely time.
Venue is amazing, the food spectacular but costly.
Brilliant restaurant in Plettenberg bay. We decided to end our holiday with a nice dinner and could not have chosen a better place. Beautiful venue built in and on a rock face and very tastefully decorated. The staff was also very professional and welcoming eventhough we did not book a table. The menu has a great variety of seafood tappas, seafood and some red meat as well. We ordered 6 small plates and I would definitely recommend the soused salmon - absolutely delicious. So if you are in Plettenberg bay this is definitely one to visit.
The first visit was very nice, but today it was more than disappointing. We ordered our food. After 45 minutes we received the starters. Another 45 minutes later, the first two people at our table got their food. Another 10 minutes later the rest of the table got their food. but the broccoli was a joke. Check the picture, it was just the broccolis stalk. The service also was disappointing. No sorry for the long time to wait or the vegetables, and she did not ask for new drinks. I Think, Spur next door would have do it better.
As usual excellent food good service for the last few years walking distance to our timeshare well Simon Ash.
Up until now this is the best restaurant that weve had dinner at. They have an excellent service with a great menu. It speaks for itself that the menu consists mainly of fish. The menu was nicely done as a sort of newspaper and the wine we had was excellent. Most definitely a place we would come back to.
After reading the good reviews decided to go here for a meal on a Saturday in February 2021. Firstly the first three items ordered were unavailable the tuna, linefish and fish curry although on the menu so thought of having mussels but its done in a cream sauce which is not to our liking and no alternative sauce such as a tomato base is on offer. So had to go for hake and calamari which was not very tasty. My hake was not cooked enough and my vegetables were cold and the chips scorching hot. When I told the waitress the vegetables were cold she just said in a polite but brusque manner Im sorry! I do not recommend and will not be returning. Total waste of money 🤨
We had a wonderful experience at the Fat Fish. Warmly greeted by great manager Zuki who made us feel very welcome, even with a stumbling 14month old.Went back a second time and had same great service. Zuki also arranged for the baby food to be warmed without batting an eyelid.Delicious fresh fish prepared with care, solid wine selection and great beers on tap! Thanks for making this new nervous family feel welcomed!
Always amazing. Upmarket mainly fish and sushi restaurant. Well known in Plett. Superb food. Great location with sea views over Central Beach and lagoon. Well done Simon.
Great food. The starters were excellent, particularly the dim sum. I had the fish and chips, it was perfectly cooked and a decent portion size. The view sitting outside is great and the service was excellent.
The mussels were fabulous! And the brulee desert sublime. Lovely service. Thank you 😊
Have always loved the Fat Fish in Plett but sad to say our experience this last week was a disappointment! My husband has always rated their seafood pasta one of the best in South Africa but this time was really not good. My daughter who was with us had been to Fat Fish the week before and said she experienced the same then - no flavour (my husband had to keep dousing it with salt just to get some kind of flavour, also very little fish, just a bowl of pasta and mussels! Their desserts also unfortunately not as good as they used to be!
Great service and great food! We took our toddler with us and the staff were so helpful and friendly. The food was delicious and I really appreciated the QR code menus so I didnt have to touch a menu, even though they had some available on request. And the dessert was delicious! I had the ginger infused cheese cake, it was the best cheesecake Ive ever had!
Came here for a quick lunch which ended up to take more than 1:30 h due to slow staff and kitchen. Other customers that ordered after us received their food first. Staff apologized somewhat but was not really making up for it.Also they got one dish wrong of an easy order.COVID-19 rules are also not followed or cared for and bathrooms should be serviced more frequent, they looked terrible.A place that just takes the cash of tourists and visitors due to its location.Food was ok, but not excellent.I cannot recommend.
Amazing sushi. Defiantly be back.
Incredible fresh sea food. Some of the best service we have ever had in the area! Thank you!
Thank you for addressing my issues I experienced yesterday at your restaurant
The tapas are delicious the service quick and friendly -sitting out on the terrace with a good glass of wine -happy days
Good lunch special if youre hungry. When the place is very busy, expect a longer waiting time in service.
Very nice restaurant if you want to celebrate a anniversary. I personaly dont like the QR code scanning for the menu.
Incredible food, stunning view, and unbelievably friendly and on it service.
The most recommended restaurant in Plettenberg Bay. Reservations are essential, however we went for an early dinner. We tried the seafood platter for two which was the freshest seafood. The fish was made with a hint of chilli, melting in the mouth, and the huge prawns was grilled just right and was flavoursome. The calamari was lightly battered. The dish also came with a fragrant basmati rice and two sauces. The restaurant was built in the ‘mountain’ with the rocks exposed as a wall - what a great feature. The waiter provided an amazing service and was so friendly. Top class!
Felt a bit pricey, and food was 4/5 tonight. Excellent service.
Great lunch, fabulous location, friendly staff...
I ordered 4 main meals total. 2 of those meals were not great. Fish was bland. The other two meals were great. Portion size could have been a little more. Menu and prices definitely signify fine dining.
Good food, stunning view, awesome service! Thank you!
Excellent Sushi and fish
They close thier restaurant at random hours. Dont trust the hours on Google because chances are they are closed in those hours too. Every time we go there they turn us away. Dont bother coming on a whim or as a tourist in the area, youll just be turned away. Even if there is space in the restaurant. Although if youre an elitist Im sure youll feel right at home.
We had an absolute amazing experience at The Fat Fish in Plett. The vibe is incredible, the staff super friendly and the food is DELICIOUS (and even that is an understatement). The Kataifi Prawns is the best starter I’ve ever had! The sushi was fresh and super tasty. To top it off, we had the Lemon Panna Cotta for dessert and it was superb. If you’re looking for an amazing dining experience, this is the place to go.
Absolutely love the vibe of this place and the food was delicious. Will definitely be going back, especially for their sushi!
