Great location in Oudtshoorn, probably the best location you can find there.Extremely close to any tourist attraction you could consider, central to cango versus the town centre where the shops are, great spot! Amazing intriguing family history on this farm. Wonderful staff, very helpful and professional always willing to please. We even ordered freshly baked homemade farmstyle bread from the restaurant to take back to our room R20!!Great breakfasts every morning, top notch! Collect an ice bucket in the afternoons for your evening beverages. Fantastic braai facilities, buy your wood at the property and even receive free blitz to start the fire, and anything else for your fire that you might need can be borrowed. Our kids had a fantastic time swimming, with the choice of 2 swimming pools to use and they were wonderful and clean. We stayed at the Montana Guest house which had an enormous bathroom and very comfortable interior - was perfect for our familys needs. Very peaceful sleep.

Avoid Avoid Avoid! Huge tourist rip off! Dont eat dinner at the restaurant. Terrible food. Set menu with no starters or desert. Had cottage pie and cabbage salad for R300pp 😥 . Wife is vegetarian and no other option but boiled vegetables. Other option was frozen baked hake.. beds at Montana uncomfortable and mosquitoes!!

Nice rooms, and good facility. The German owner sold in late November 2019 and the new owner closed the restaurant first. Before booking I would inquire, because the lodge is very lonely. Also, no major activities are planned.

The next time definitely longer!Approximately 10 km after Oudtshoorn, in the Cango Valley, there is the small town Schoemanshoek. In principle, it consists only of a few small houses, ostrich farms, guesthouses and the Montana Guest Farm.Well, we thought, for an overnight stay on the way to Hermanus on the R62, with a small detour on the R328 it will be enough to see some animals, to rest for the longer journey and to eat some ostrich meat. The path leads over a gravel road, past the church to the farm. Already the driveway took us back to the time of the 19th century. Several wonderfully restored houses, embedded in meadows, trees, cactuses and flowers make the time a little slower. It feels a bit like Scarlett OHara from Gone in the WindThe reception in the reception house, which also houses the restaurant, is very friendly. After a short welcome and requests for wishes, it goes past the beautiful houses, pool, terraces and meadows, in the back of the farm, to the cactus suite, located in a cactus garden with its own pool. The suite is a dream!100 sqm, with free-standing Jacuzzi, box spring beds, seating, 2 terraces and the best, with underfloor heating.Everything is a bit old, but it does not matter, as the charm of the decor, the fresh flowers in the room and the view make up for everything. We make ourselves a coffee, lie down on the soft cushioned loungers by the pool and arrive. Then we briefly explore the farm, go to the main house and meet Wolfgang, owner and soul of the plant. He, an elderly, very fine gentleman, is German 15 years ago the farm acquired and lovingly restored and expanded.Even now you do not want to leave his side, his flowery stories about the region and its possibilities, let us regret to stay here only one night. We learn that its common to have a drink around 6:30 pm and have dinner together. At 5 pm there is a knock on our door. The chef introduces himself and asks us what we would like to eat, we are speechless ...Punctually at 18:30 clock we go to the restaurant, where the landlord in a suit in the fireplace room and a glass of port wine he talks to us about SOUTH AFRICA, his impressive life as a lawyer (including for the UN in terms of apartheid and for Mandela) and Explains that he invited a friend, the former mayor of Oudtshoorn, to celebrate the day. We feel like were at a family reunion.Shortly thereafter, James, the mayor, along with family, we all chat informally and experience pure hospitality.Afterwards the cook asks us for a large, festively set table, where the host serves tasty wine ...The food is first class, of course there are ostrich and for dessert Zabaione, hand made !!!The evening sounds like wine, espresso and good conversation in German and English ...Just wonderful. We are very annoyed that we have not booked for longer.Breakfast:It continues ... Like the evening, also the morning. The cook and two housemaids are ready. The table is lovingly set, the rich buffet set up and flowers are spread all over the room. There are various juices, fresh fruit, yoghurt cereals, sausage and cheese. The cook prepares the egg dishes as desired, it is just perfect. Conclusion:A bit out of the usual routes but definitely recommended. We will definitely stay longer on our next trip to South Africa.Info:Type: full service, breakfast and restaurantStandard: good middle classParking: free, guardedHandicapped Accessible: PartlyPets: noWLAN: Yes, (sufficient)
