A very chilled lodge/hotel, perfect for some quiet time on your own or with family. The ocean facing rooms were amazing. You are literally a stone throw away from the sea. The soothing sounds of the ocean waves are to die for. The sound literally puts you into deep sleep every night. They have an amazing dinning hall that serves delicious food, and fresh fish daily. Oh! did I mention they make the most scrumptious bread for starters? The best Ive ever tasted.

Been coming here for years and never had any problems. Alex and his staff are amazing. On my latest visit my extra cellphone slipped out of my pocket under a chair and one of the workers picked it up. More than a day later I returned and asked if they picked up a phone and they gave me back my phone. I am extremely impressed!

Very nice casual hotel. Staff very friendly and let you just be. Three rooms on the beach pleasant, but locals are a problem. Groups of young men gathered under the trees beyond the fence and watched you for long periods whilst in the room or sitting outside. They even urinated against the fence when ignored. The food is real home food and was excellently prepared - lots of food. The hotel and staff must be complemented, considering that everything is brought in from East London. Well done! The hotel deserves to be supported. The following is for info only! The visit to the Hole in the Wall - a must!! It is some 10km away from the hotel. What a sight! But once again the local so called guides are a problem. Extremely intimidating and do not except no as an answer to being a guide. They will walk some paces in front of you and then demand a fee as high as R600. Thus park at the hotel. Exit through the gate towards the beach and turn right. Walk up to the rip tide sign and turn left. Walk to the Hole-in-the-Wall conservation sign and turn right. Follow the path and it will take you to the Hole. Also take a drive up to the view point - follow your nose. We called for assistance of people in the houses on the path leading to the Hole and they dealt with the guides. The drive to the hotel is about 80km from the N2. Many, many, many.... potholes - take it easy. Once again some locals guard a single pothole with a spade. They put some sand in the hole and then become aggressive if you do not give them some money. The rest of the community ignore you as much as you ignore them. Do not waste your time looking for a toilet within Butterworth or all the way to the hotel. If really required, make a road side stop - as all the locals do!Fuel - some 20km from the hotel - thus do not stress.

We loved our stay here - the view from our room was outstanding and something we will never forget. It is worth the long drive. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The dinner buffet was lovely with a home-made feel - we could easily have eaten double of what we did. The same for the breakfast buffet. We were also very happy to see that the hotel was hosting young people who are part of a training program of the tourism department in the Eastern Cape.

4 mainly for the views and private beach area. In our room you could literally here the waves and see the shore so its quite literally on the beach.Remember that this location is quite remote/rural, so make sure you purchase snacks or food (if not planning eat at the hotel). If you are driving yourself, make sure you get enough petrol, as I didnt notice a gas station - we were lucky that we had filled. If you plan to drive, would recommend a high rise car, especially during rainy season as it can get quite muddy. Although my small little Kia, still managed. It is quite a distance from the actual Hole in the Wall. So arrange transport for that activity.Pretty decent lodging, rooms are well maintained. Beach is in within walking distance

Hotel rooms are dated and in need of an update. Our first room only had a bath shower combo which was way to small for tall people (you have to bend to get showered) and taps didnt work to get water working in the. Staff were great and were quick to move us to a different room when we complained. Due to the dated rooms and the quality of linen and equipment in the room - it is very overpriced for what you get.The beach and surrounding area is lovely.

When we checked in we first got one of the smaller rooms, which was good on the first sight. But the bathroom was very dirty with ants everywhere. The shower was so small we couldnt even stand up in it and the smell in the room was disgusting. We then changed the rooms to one of the bigger rooms with sea view, which was much better! We also booked a guided hike to the hole in the wall and we really enjoyed it.Dinner and breakfast buffet was good.

The location is fabulous and the hotel is the only place in Coffee Bay that gathers to travelers who are not backpacking. Rooms are basic despite being renovated. Service is good. The main attraction is the area. We hiked the trail from the hotel to the hole in the wall, possibly the most stunning trail we have explored in South Africa over the last 2 years. A guide can be booked at the hotel who will arrange the car pickup at the end of the trail. They can also arrange to pick up hikers on the last hill to avoid hiking for the last less interesting part of the trail so one drives to the hole in the wall, which, is a hole. The trail was so much more interesting than the commercialized end point. So, we give the hotel a positive rating as it offers so much more than accommodation. It is the location that makes it a fine place if you happen to be in the area. Great and safe beach access, clean and home made food. Nothing fancy, but overall good.

After spending almost R30 000 for a week holiday, we were looking forward to it for months we were shocked and very disappointed. For that price we were really expecting value for money. The hotel was quite run down and falling apart. There was rubbish (old broken pool loungers, etc) laying around the property in plain sight. We were prepared for rustic, but this was very different - large cracks in the walls and in the ceiling walls/ arch above the stairs coming down from the hotel rooms looked like it was about to collapse. Definitely not good value for money.

Ocean View is a lovely Hotel. What is concerning however is the manner in which black staff are treated. I watched a man talk down to waitresses. He even went as far as to say you know me, you will be outAnd that leaves a very bad taste.I think its a shame, that people feel the need to assert their seniority by belittling other staff members.Do Better. Its 2017. We wont stand for such. Definitely not under our watch.

Sad sad affair - this will be the last time that we will visit and see this beautiful setting...the hotel has been sold and all the wonderful memories of wonderful food seafood and the special ambience that all that risked the road to get here so appreciated and enjoyed!! Is gone...(and the chef with it) no more - seafood now only served on Saturdays - tonight for R195 we had burnt soup, raw chicken, strips of some kind of beef😳as tough as can be - I was so shocked!!! And then annoyed - so annoyed that they deducted the food charge - the electricity has been off for 2 days - we still pay the same rate - we sit in pitch dark with a lamp - no warm shower, no security lights outside, shocking!! And no backup plan.If you have been here before be prepared to be disappointed - If this is your first time know this - the sea, beach and setting is beautiful but at R1150 per night - dinner excluded and taking into account, the standard, selection and quality of the food, and the unsafe area where you are forced to park - do your homework well!!The star of the show is Molly the brindle hotel dog - it was love at first sight and she followed us around and slept next to our bed - the one star is for you Molly who was truly glad to see us!!Sad that a place with such a rich history and proven track record could go down so quickly -

Its a beautiful place but it is a damn shame that it is being managed by inadequate people. You guys are highly unprofessional to say the least. Its been 9 months since my partner and I have reported about our accident on our way to Coffee Bay when we had made our reservations for the weekend of the 1st of April in 2016. You guys even went as far as requesting our banking account details and still in 2017 you have not communicated with us. It would have been understandable if Janine (the lady we spoke to then) had explained to us your terms and conditions of the kind of business that you guys run. She instead, raised our hopes up high and requested our banking details as mentioned above. It is a damn shame that we had to go as far as writing on your public page after several escalations with regards to this matter.

Pictures and videos are deceiving. Make sure you have fuel. No garage in Coffee Bay. Make sure you have enough food. The hotel holds the monopoly in that you are forced to partake in the buffet at dinner and will not offer anything else even if the menu is not to your taste. I thought that the manager at dinner on the 8th of January 2018 lacked customer etiquette. No other food outlets. A very disappointing experience. No value for money.
