Always a good time here. Great people, great pizzas! Just be careful when sitting by the windows as that is a good spot to get your phone/wallet nicked from the counter. Staff always makes sure to warn you, and they offer amazing service!

The place has character with years of having the same style. It is a must visit pub for those who loves pub crawling. It is vibey and noisy. Very smokey. So if you can bear smelling like smoke for a couple of days and you addicted to 2nd hand smoking, this is for you. Definitely needs better extractors. Can sit downstairs or upstairs, which has a smoking balcony. Not a cocktail bar. Variety or beers and drinks. The pizzas is legendary and few places can match their crispy thin based oven baked pizzas with plenty of toppings. Not part of Jolly Cool opposite the road.

Just as all dive bar patrons share the love of cramped spaces, good service and loud music, Jolly Roger brings those qualities to light along with an amazing staff and a roaring impression.

The atmosphere and food was great, but so many people in a small place with little or no masks had my anxiety racing.

A bit conflicted on my review here, maybe I am just getting old. Was a bit noisy to my liking as there is a coin operated jukebox and the volume is so high that I couldnt have a conversation at my table. It was around 4pm on a Thursday. Had it been 10pm, different story maybe....staff was very friendly nonetheless, but the prices were a bit steep for my liking......again, maybe just not my vibe....

Service was great. The place is just on a rather busy street, it was hard to find parking. Would definitely recommend using an uber as theres no secure parking.

The revamp of upstairs has made it lost it charm. Still love Jollies but feels cold and lost its personality. Like meeting up with an old lover that changed.

I was thoroughly disappointed by my latest experience at the Jolly Roger. I have been there multiple times on a Sunday when they have their half price special. I always order the same thing, the La Med with chicken instead of bacon and I have never had a problem. Tonight however the waitress told me that I would have to pay extra to substitute the bacon for chicken. She was very rude about this, even after I explained that due to my religion I cannot eat pork. She proceeded to tell me that I should just order another pizza with chicken, however they only have TWO options with chicken, one of which is spicy which I can’t eat. After this she started arguing with me about how they don’t do this, even though I have done this before, and then just walked away. This is especially shocking considering how good the waitresses at the Jolly Roger usually are. Such a bad experience and quite honestly I’m offended that my religion wasn’t respected..

The beer was cold, the pizza was nice (or so I heard), the service was on point and efficient. The venue still has a nice character, and is complimented by good music. Great place to people-watch while having a few cold ones.

Go Sundays and Weds for half price

The Jolly is an institution, the more the world changes, the more it stays the same. Excellent pizza, some great new-ish specials, always a good selection of drink and music, filled with an eclectic mix of patrons and some amazing staff who have worked there for ages. They are the soul of the place.

Jolly is lovely, especially for the friendly vibe. The service wasnt the best last visit, which is not usual, but the pizza was fantastic - better than I remember even.

I am so embarrassed to have recommended the Jolly Roger. I have been going there for years and have always had a great time. Unfortunately I decided to go for half priced pizza with my girlfriend. We uave done this multiple times and she orders the same thing a La Med, everytime without a problem. However, this time, after asking the waitress if we can replace the bacon (more expensive) with chicken (cheaper), the waitress informed us that there would be a R25 surcharge for this. We were quite shocked and explained to the waitress that due to religious reasons she cant eat pork and the waitress basically said that it was our problem and that she would have to choose from one of the 2 options of chicken pizza on their menu. After which the waitress turned around and simply walked away. This intolerance and lack of inclusion on a religious basis is shocking, I am embarrassed and ashamed to have ever been a patron at Jollies...

Best old school pub in Jozi! Always excellent pizza try the basil maina and the garage days (with banana). A very good selection of beers and spirits, but avoid the wines. Try get a table in chairmans corner for the best experience.

Quiet bar...doesnt live up to the usually busy vibe in Parkhurst. The pizza was good... The trammezinis were disappointing... The pastry they used turned out to be oily and nauseating...The service was timeous and the staff were friendly

Music and atmosphere was awesome, however, 1 of the patrons was exceptionally rude and pushed us away from a chap we were only talking to, she us a regular there, not a good impression at all for a first time visit.

This is one of my favourite pubs in Joburg. Good for early afternoon drinks or a late night party. There is a great vibe here and it has to be great because its been going for ages.

On a Wednesday and a Sunday night their pizza is half price. I would pay three times the price because it is so darn delicious. The view from the balcony is just wonderful and the ambiance is always great. I have been going to the jolly Roger for several years

Half price pizzas on a Wednesday night is a must for students in the area. The pizzas are always abundant with toppings. Totally worth it.

Its a dive. Lets be clear. Its not clean only 1 toilet upstairs. Carpet needs to go to police forensics with all bar fights that occur on the regular. But the atmosphere is great. Pizzas are fantastic!!! Its a watering hole so u have your regulars and u get the after party crowd the work crowd expats looking for a good time the lonesomes the girls dancing on tables etc. Poor staff worked off their feet but good and friendly. Guaranteed good time if you stop turning yr nose on the air and focus on drinking and taking someone home. Open till all hours. Vibey at night. Watch yr handbag in the area.

The pub has a great atmosphere. It is ideal for watching live sport on TV with you mates, or even just getting together for a (not so quiet) drink. There is an adequate food menu too and the place is just small enough to enjoy quick service both at the table and bar counter. They have a great selection of draft beers too. The prices are reasonable too for s pub and the pizzas we enjoyed had fresh ingredients which were abundantly present.

At this point jollies has basically become a staple in the area. It puts on no airs and graces. It simply offers you good drinks, at reasonable prices, while good music plays in the background. The pizza is fantastic and there are always weird and wonderful people sitting at the next table.

The Jolly Roger is a legendary spot in Johannesburg and a must visit. Dont expect fine dining, pizzas and their famous hot sauce served in empty water bottles is the meal of the day, every day. They have a selection of beers on tap and ample seating on 2 levels. Their specials are on Sundays and Wednesdays after 17h00 where all pizzas are half price.
