Authentic Italian. More than worth it to pay a visit.

My absolute favorite Italian restaurant in Johannesburg and this time of the year, with Christmas on our doorstep, it is turned into a Christmas Jewel Box. Beautifully wrapped panettone cakes of all kinds. Absolutely stunning and so yummy. Great food and service at all times. Reminds me of authentic Italy time and time again. Just love love this restaurant

Fantastic fresh food and a lovely atmosphere.

The owner of this restaurant is a horrible person. My parents in law really enjoyed the place for a while, we went there often for lunch. The last time they went there, they had a small complaint about a dessert - and the owner couldnt take the criticism at all - she resorted to racist remarks, and made an absolute scene. Disgusting behaviour. What a pity.

I rather recommend Ristorante di Trinita or Francos Tratoria or Aurum, but never this place.The middle-aged woman is the worst hostess I ever met in the world. She was shockingly bad.

Its good quality food, dont get me wrong, but you can have an equal to better experience in other Italian restaurants at similar or better pricing in JHB. Not much more I can say other than that.

Really delicious food, and the deli is well stocked for your DIY pasta dishes at home. The menu is high quality, but the prices also reflect that, so dont expect a cheap meal. Definitely worth a visit for some true Italian meals!

We have selected this restaurant over the many in JHB to spend our time at.However, my parents most recent visit to this establishment is one I wont forget.My father made a comment about the Mille-feuille dessert being soggy and not crispy. This comment was not made without prompt. He was asked what he thought of it. The waiter told the female owner/ manager. She then attacked my parents saying What do you know about food, We dont take money from Chinese people.My parents grew up in a French Colonial Country and have lived in South Africa for 32 years. They nor I even speak Chinese.I am so completely disgusted by the owner. She is a blatant racist and it is appalling. It is such a shame.

Extremely poor, rude service from the restaurant owner. On 31Jan2021, my wife and I decided to go to this restaurant for lunch. A short while after looking at the menu,we decided to leave seeing that there were no items which appealed to us. We had ordered a pot of tea and before leaving, asked a waiter to cancel the order, which he confirmed he would do. After leaving the restaurant, another waiter approached us to make payment saying that he would need to pay for the tea. We explained to him that another waiter had already canceled the order but he didnt agree saying he would need to pay. We did not want to make him pay so I went to the car, got some cash and went back in to the restaurant to pay. Upon entering, I heard the waiters saying hes back. I then saw the manager who immediately turned her back to me, accusing me of not wanting to pay, all the while walking away and not having the decency to face or even speak with me. I felt extremely offended by being subject to this behavior since, despite making a false accusation of me, she did not treat me with dignity, and after a while started to raise her voice at me. Is this how a customer should be treated for wanting to resolve a situation and make payment? What I thought would be a very quick, normal and routine gesture, turned out to be a nightmare and I was left feeling extremely embarrassed, insulted and offended. Later on, my wife drove back to the restaurant to clear the air and explain nicely to the owner what occurred. We wanted to do this to engage properly with the owner hoping she had calmed down, and without needing to write a review. However, my wife was received with even worse and rude the behavior from the owner, who raised her voice at my wife despite my wife calmly trying clear and resolve the issue. She shouted further saying she did not care if we wrote a review and gesturing with her hand for my wife to get lost. This is disgusting rude, uncouth and totally unacceptable. We have eaten at restaurants all around South Africa, and we have never been treated this way before.

Great restaurant for authentic Italian dishes.

Excellent food. Genuine and authentic Italian cuisine. Highly recommended. If and when the lock down ends adding alcohol to the menu will make this a complete experience.

Great atmosphere but wow, their prices are over the top for what seems ordinary Italian.

Please do this business a favour and fire the female manager. Called recently and asked how they were adhering to Covid social distancing Protocols and was told that if thats my concern I should go elsewhere.Took a drive past and they were fully booked and as expected, no social distancing.One wants to support restaurants but when its based on greed, a blatant disregard for Covid and a manager who should rather be non customer facing, there are far better restaurants to support

If you like Italian cuisine, this is the place to go! I ordered Spinach Malfatti with mushroom sauce and it a winner! The ricotta cheesecake with homemade vanilla icecream was superb! I give this place 6 stars!

Delish!The asparagus Parmigiana was absolutely lovely, the butternut, almond, sage ravioli was the MOST delish, best in town.Slightly pricey but worth a detour.

Firstly, there was a singer of sorts belting out RnB songs loudly - drowning out any attempts at good conversation. He wasnt a terrible singer but did he in anyway contribute positively to the vibe -no. The waiter wore a mask - just below his chin that is...respectfully, a big mouth full of teeth; it would seem shouting is synonymous with good service here because he came highly recommended. The more we tried to move forward and away from his shouty-service, the closer he would come, annoying. The kingklip with risotto was neither here nor there. We ate, there was food in our bellies - nothing more to say. Goodnight!

My first time here. Ill start with all the reasons I had a great experience, and end with some constructive feedback.- The ambassador of the restaurant today was Norman, and he offered delightful service; giving suggestions, bringing humour to his service, and checking in on my table at good intervals.- The best Cappuccino, and Americano Ive had in a long time. I am half human, half coffee bean, so this praise is huge.- The gnocci in gorgonzola sauce was tasty and serving size that was enough to fill. I added a little pepper, but thats not to say the dish lacked.Constructive feedback? This is more for the public: yall need to e patience this place for yourselves. The ambience, waiting staff, and space, distract you long enough to forget whatever woes youre enduring. Even if its for a treat day. A treat day thats every day. For every meal.Okay Ill stop. Honestly, it was a pleasant experience, and I would gladly get lost in there again.

Fantastic little Italian restaurant. The food is delicious and generous. They also sell all kinds of condiments and sauces in house. I will say that they are a bit too expensive. Especially the corkage fee... I would recommend it, but I feel like a lot of people are missing out due to the pricing

Favourite local Italian for many Joburgers! An absolute staple and you will struggle to find better authentic Italian outside of Italy itself! A bit on the pricey side, but as I have said before, one pays a premium for quality and TORT does not disappoint ever!!!

I had pasta with asparagus and baby marrows which was really tasty. My dad had the minestrone soup which he didnt like. My mom had the beef lasagna which she said was very nice. Very expensive. Little parking. Im disabled and they didnt have disabled parking or a ramp.

Thats at least 25years. And although the food is excellent the place is expensive. The owner has a very nice Porsche if youre into cars.Its a visit once place.

Great food... Really great. Unnecessarily overpriced though. Ive been to many Italian restaurants who import their ingredients and charge reasonable prices. This establishment adds NO VALUE to selling me a can of popular soft drink at double (even triple) the normal retail price of the item. Good food. Im happy to pay any price (if its reasonable) but wont be going back due to the extortionary pricing.

Their food is superb! Ive had their food as take away before and because of that, we were very excited to try this restaurant first hand.Our table shared a wonderful salad with truffles, highly recommended. Main courses where pasta, cooked and seasoned to perfection, steak, prepared perfectly and salmon wonderfully fresh.Their wine selection is also fantastic!Its quite sad that the whole experience was dulled by no air-conditioning in the midst of the Gauteng heatwave, and poor Management.Regular customers moved the fans that where provided onto their own tables with no regard to other patrons. It was also painfully obvious that these regulars where served first. Newcomers like us had to constantly ask waiters to take our orders. Id like to emphasize that this was by no means the waiters faults, management was clearly instructing on which tables needed to be tend to.Wont be returning unfortunately, but with all their regulars Im sure they dont need my patronage.

Weve always had great experiences here and the welcome drink (sparkling wine) is a wonderful addition. They have excellent service and amazing dishes all round. The asparagus & lemon butter stater is an all time favourite and the aubergine bake is out of this world.

This unassuming , Italian restaurant / deli in a small strip mall has been around for decades it seems and it has a secret it’s fantastic! Arrived at noon for a business lunch and at first wasn’t particularly impressed , it seemed quiet and a little bit dated at first. Initially I looked at the size of the dining area and though it’s far too large and was empty except for one other table with customers , within 45 min I was proven wrong as the place filled with customers and there was a queue waiting to be seated. The reason... the food ... plain and simple ... the menu is varied and diverse, but not so big that the quality suffers, everything seems home made and fresh including the pasta.From the starters to the desserts there was more than your usual offering from “Italian” restaurants , it seemed genuine and well thought out.Give this place a try

Very classy and fancy place that looks very unassuming on the outside. On arrival we got sparkling wine and for dessert my sorbet was served in a bowl made of ice. The prices are quite steep so go here for something like an anniversary evening or a date you want to impress. We had pasta and it was delicious.

Great Italian restaurant. I only purchased take aways and other food from their deli, and did not sit and eat there. The food we ate was great. The restaurant is very cosy and the owner was there with whom I had a chat and she made suggestions about what to eat. I am planning to eat there as soon as we are back in Johannesburg again.

We went back after a long time remembering how good the food was. We were disappointed with the truffle pasta which had no taste of truffle. The other food was good so at least that made up for it.Recommended, but not as good as it used to be.

What a lunch!

The food was delicious. At a table of 12 the staff handled it amazingly. And the service was good. Ambience is a little lacking with some music, but in general is quite beautiful.
