It was a lovely hotel and we enjoyed our stay.The WiFi service was horrible though. It was mostly none existent despite my calls to reception.They only had one sanitiser station which was at security. I found that a bit consenting but nothing a personal hand sanitiser cant solve.The staff were great and more than made up for my disappointments. It was a good stay

Protea Hotel By MarriotNice hotel experience. Spacious rooms and serene on the inside despite the fact that its located right at the heart of busy Johannesburg. Clean and the workers are friendly! But having the Parking so far away was a huge challenge!

The whole place is clean and the rooms are very nice and clean, nice breakfast.

They dont have muslim showers in their toilets so no taharat complete, wasnt expecting this from them, they should consider that their guests are Muslims too

I didnt like the location of the hotel, its located in a very busy area, but the room i was placed on was spacious and comfy. Not much variety of food on their buffet.

The hotel rooms look like a student accommodation. At first the stuff was very friendly but on the second day they become quite rude. The food is horrible and ridiculously expensive. The tap water had a brownish colour. All in all a horrible experience. PS dont buy the ribs and wings the wings have a very artificial taste.

The hotel on its own is so amazing, shopping inside, gym is super amazing. The pool its very nice and the view when you are at the balcony. This is a must visit place

We were greeted by a rude receptionist (Mpumelelo) was his name.We bought dinner which was cold with hope that the hotel would have a microwave to warm it, but there was no microwave throughout the whole hotel, even after kindly asking the staff for assistance.The coffee station inside the rooms had no milk.There was no blankets in the rooms.

Protea hotel in Joburg it is the best hotel Ive ever been in, I had a great time everything is organized and the staff was good to us not forgetting the food its on another level.

Hotel is nice, staff is friendly, But, the entrance over the bridge from the parking is dirty when you come in, even though we saw a guy cleaning when we left. Rooms are nice and spacious but carpet and couches are dated, bathroom aswell. Also surrounding area is not the best, but enjoyed our stay there anyway.

Large clean rooms and the staff is professional and hospitable. Food was wonderful. Had forgotten my jacket in my room, housekeeping kept it safe for me until I went to collect it after 2weeks. Security procedure at the car park entrance is a bit lengthy when going out.

How does your Hotel advise that everything is closed i.e. restaurant/bar and I have to take an Uber to another venue to be accommodated (only room service), however, when I get back to the Hotel there is people in the restaurant for drinks. I have checked with reception on arrivals and again when to get a rooms service menu. This is bad service and double standards. When I enquired? The staff was just shrugging their shoulders. I will take this up with the booking agent.

Good spacious rooms, bathroom was clean and well taken care of, the pool is well maintained and the gym facilities were good, some of the treadmills werent working but its still a good all round place.

The hotel is clean and the food and staff was very friendly. Explicitly the employee Sne, she made a great job. Very friendly, she always has a smile and sympathetic.She gave me good tips for my stay in Johannesburg and was able to help me with all questions because I traveled alone as a woman and was nervous. I have certainly guided safe myself. I recommend this hotel!

Wow honestly, their service is so superb. From the day of arrival to the day of departure. I personally never complained of anything, the rooms are spacious like the whole room setting is good. Food is lit, service is lit. My recommendation is that at least their pool should have something to warm it up. Otherwise you never go wrong with them. Thank you.

Never been there just passing

The view from the top is superb. Other than that, as an international traveler to the area I would pick another hotel in an area further north. The place is outdated. I had room service once and wouldn’t do it again. It’s in a very unsafe area, so we were encouraged not to walk outside the large gate of the hotel. In fact we heard a gunshot not once, but twice in the three days we stayed here. There was WiFi service, but it was pretty slow. I had to be near the door to the room to get decent service. All in all, if you can spend a few more Rand, find a Protea or other hotel just a few kilometers to the north.

Excellent conference facilities, helpful friendly staff, close to the Gautrain whereby they offer to collect you at no additional cost. Spacious rooms with a view of the city, beautiful at night. The restaurant food is amazing with huge helpings, dont miss out on the desert trolley, best ever home made ice cream. We will definitely be back

It’s a generally good hotel for a stay in the city centre if there’s a need for such. There’s not much to see or do at the neighbouring area but the hotel looks rather safe (comes with a gate). Standard services can be expected at the hotel, similar to other Protea hotels, i.e. standard breakfast spread, clean bathroom with standard Protea amenities. There’s a shuttle available to Maboneng area but it’s not complimentary. Parking is also available at the nearby parking lot for a daily fee.

Warm welcome

This hotel is central and easy to access from central Johannesburg. Its also in a peaceful part of Braam. The service is great. I wouldnt suggest visiting here with small kids though. The windows in high level rooms could be secured better. The rooftop bar and pool are stellar though

On our way home to the US, we stayed one night in Johannesburg. We used ourreward points and the hotel was very accommodating in accepting them. The restaurant, bar, and lobby were very nice. But, the carpet and couch in our room was quite dirty. However, the bedding was very nice and the bed was very comfortable. We were able to obtain a shuttle from the airport to the hotel and back to the airport, through the hotel. What was even better, was that the driver was very accommodating at also being our driver to take us around Johannesburg. He was a great guy and made our one day stay very nice.

This has to be one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in all year. The staff was beyond amazing and went over and beyond to be helpful. They have very nice, spacious, clean rooms. I will definitely come back!

I stayed at Protea Parktonian for one night while connecting to Cape Town. The suite had everything that I needed, and was reasonably comfortable. The staff, excluding the check in manager, were friendly and helpful. The room service was good. The wifi was slow and unstable. However that is the case EVERYWHERE in South Africa, and I dont know why. Just get your own sim from Vodacom.

Really dated. Well kept on top of all paint work was nice but how many times can you paint somewhere. The bathroom was probably awesome in 1980 but needs badly updating. If your on a budget then this is perfect. If youve saved for your hunnymoon then this is not the place for you. Lovely staff but the hotel itself is old and in desperate need of modernisation.

I do quite a bit of international business travel and always look for Marriott or Marriott partner hotels. I stayed at a Protea in Durban during a recent trip to South Africa and felt comfortable picking another Protea hotel for several days I had to spend in Johannesburg. I selected the Protea Hotel Johannesburg Parktonian based on its proximity to where I would be working without knowing anything about the area. I made a mistake. Knowing what I know now, I would select one of the Protea hotels several kilometers to the north of this hotel. It was in an area of town that quite frankly doesnt appear to be safe for international travelers. On two different occasions during my three night stay I heard gunshots. The hotel itself is rather dated, and the food is sub-par. You cant safely walk anywhere to eat, so you either need to get transportation to dinner or eat in the hotel. I wouldnt recommend that latter. The staff was very friendly, but overall I would not stay in this hotel again.

The hotel manager sought us out to greet us and to make sure we felt taken care of. Very very good service. Beautiful observation deck on the 26 th floor. Restaurant in the main floor.... Good food. Felt safe and taken care of for the two days we spent in Johannesburg.... Would stay here again.

An excellent place to stay when coming to Johannesburg. The sky bar found on the top floor of the building has amazing views of Johannesburg.The room is spacious and bed is comfortable. The only down fall for me was the time it took for the water to heat up.

I had a great experience and being closer to the convention made me feel safe closer to the place of my visitation. The 24 hr room service I loved it .Your staff are excellent ,the driver made sure I didnt miss my flight.I wish you would add more dishes on your menu .Thank you

Keeping just a Marriott in the name wont give you a 5 star. The service of staff is pathetic, no one cares. Especially the banqueting manager (lady) she is way arrogant and will never be interested in listening to their clients and have 0% faith for customers. Food quality of the restaurant is also not up to the mark. Seems like a dying hotel.

The location of the hotel is not a very safe one and further more the hotel itself does not live up to the high standards of the Protea brand of hotels. Suites are old and worn and the bathrooms are extremely tiny. I had many issues with my stay and even had someone banging on my room door at night. The staff at the main desk were sluggish in response to this and did not even log my complaint. Luckily I was assisted by the general manager of the hotel who was helpful in refunding me

One of the underrated iconic landmarks of Johannesburg. This Oval Hotel has been part of Johannesburg skyscrapers and skyline for many years with the best bar, gym, swimming pool and conferencing facilities on top of Johannesburg you can never go wrong. The 360 degrees view of Johannesburg at night is one of the most romantic one in a mega city that bubbles with activities during the day. You will be forgiven to find it hard that to believe that you are on top of a city that comes alive during the day. Centrally located to access other tourist attractions in and around Johannesburg either with public or private transport. The Shilowa Express (Gautrain) which is part of a major gateway to any city in the world as incorporated into the famous Park station (biggest public transportation hub in the country) is just a stone throw away from the Hotel. From a taxi, bus, train, plane then you are into the Hotel within minutes. The pillar of regenerating Braamfontein, I think the Hotel together with the World famous Wits University, the SA Constitutional court and the SA Apartheid museum less than 15kms down the road have a rich history to tell about Johannesburg and South Africa. For your next day in Johannesburg, you might want to consider the Partktonian Hotel. Sorry for the rushed review, rushing to catch the Shilowa Express for the Airport.

Good value for the money rooms are so big

Parktonian is just fantastic hotel to lodge at. The place is decent and offer best local cuisine. Its a beautiful resort.

Would love to live here

Staff were extremely friendly, helpful and understanding even when we checked out late. Room was clean, spacious and amenities were more than sufficient.

The overall online branding, look, aesthetics and feel of the hotel do not match with the physical impact and feel within the hotel itself. The upkeep of the suite needs to be updated adequately as we invest heavily in the resources that let us choose where we want to stay and that on its own is money. So having been misled by pictures and experience poor customer service from a staff member due to an error on their side is blatantly disrespectful.

The service at the restaurant is appalling. We arrived at the restaurant for dinner and for more than 30 minutes we were not attended to. Once we placed our order , our food took more than an hour to arrive.The food was terrible. I ordered 300g ribs and sticky bbq wings. Both were burnt and very dry, I couldn’t even finish my food. After we ate , our plates were not cleared, we left an hour after and our plates were still not cleared while the waiters were walking past our table.The waiters were VERY rude and everytime we would ask about something we ordered the response would be “you did not order from me”.Asked for the manager and was told he’s busy, he will come. We ended up leaving without seeing the manager .The water was cold in the evening and in the morning making showering very uncomfortable.I stayed there for one night and had a really unpleasant experience. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
