They finally have a Kauai can’t wait to try that out, Kauai awesome nice reward after a work out. Was a 4 star now a 1 star, the virgin active staff at reception have terribly attitude so unhelpful Thomas and Monde maybe need to try and be more helpful.

Staff is so helpful, and its a great place to come with all members of the family of all ages. Place for the kids. Best fitness instructors!

Really crowded and you shoud think a gym this price has a generator running their machine whilst there is a power outage.So it is useless when loadsheding is up and running.

Dont like this gym. Was a member for years. Best for me were the spinning classes - but only with certain instructors. The aircon was so bad in the spinning room, the mirrors used to steam up. There was never any parking. Equipment is not new. Not a lot of space. Needs some TLC.

Not the best shower facilities design. Not good accessibility if you cant take steps cause equipment is on the second floor (didnt see a lift around though there could be one). Pool looks good running through the middle of the gym - not for the faint hearted if youre concious of people watching you while you swim :)

With these 3 stars I believe Im being generous. Virgin Active is a very big step up from my previous gym so Im charmed by the new environment. Nevertheless I know for a fact its not the standard I expected. Its a lot less that what Ive seen at other branches. Machines are standard & kinda outdated. No variations of the same machine to target the same muscles with different motions. I love this fitness thing so I know when a workout hits every spot. With the current machines unfortunately I wont be hitting those beast levels. An upgrade is due!

I have been going to this gym for over 8 years. This specific Virgin Active has remained very consistent with keeping the place maintained, machines always looking new and their staff are always motivated and motivating. The best part, the gym looks clean and professional at all times.

Possibly the only pro to this gym is it’s central location. From poor maintenance to not even having water this gym has disappointed over and over again. Near the studio area machines are packed together so tightly it’s like climbing a jungle gym to use them, effort has been made to upgrade the gym but only to add to the problem of little floor space. During peak hours there aren’t enough machines available and one ends up stuck in lines waiting to use machines. I have also had trouble with canceling my membership by being sent back and forth from the actual venue to my insurance company which leaves me to question management. There are definitely better places to get fit.

This place is cramped, uses old equipment, the furnishings are old and torn. There is no aircon on the other side of the club. There was a rat in the ladies changing room the other day. They didnt offer a BMI assessment when signing up in order to see what I need to work on, had to go to planet fitness for that. In general, Virgin Active (not just Glen Acres) needs to upgrade its machines.

Good Virgin Active overall. Has a big swimming pool, enough machines and benches but can become full. Has a studio and a spinning class as well. Some of the machines are dated on the weights side. Staff is friendly and bathrooms always clean

Virgin Active Glen Marais is a scam. I was interested in signing for membership with them in July. A lady who works there by the name of Noxolo walked me through the process of joining and getting a five day free trial before officially becoming a member. She even went to the lengths of coming to my home. She clearly stated upon signing the form, I am eligible to use the gym for 5 days to see whether Id like to become part of their family. I also wanted my baby cousin to join, Noxolo and I have communicated this. On the 5th day, it was a Saturday morning when I went to the gym with my cousin as per our agreement with Noxolo. Anyway she also came with me during the week in this period of what they call the Free trial. So on Saturday morning when we were at the reception, another employee of the gym told us off. Even after I explained that were still in the 5 day free trial and she can call Noxolo because she was off duty. She treated us very badly and didnt have a care to understand before telling us were not allowed to go in. Eventually we left, and while we were outside I took it upon myself to call Noxolo (the lady I signed up with) and told her that her colleagues are rude. They have treated us badly so I am not interested in joining anymore she can cancel our agreement. She was not at work like Ive mentioned but she assured that shell take care of it as soon as shes there. I left thinking that Im done with Virgin active, they will never see me. Come month end September I see they debited my account. I obviously reversed it. Now Im getting phone calls asking what happened. Ive explained to atleast 3 consultants at the head office but they also debited my account on Month end October. I reversed that too. When I call this Noxolo lady she tells me that she told me to cancel by writing a letter 20 days before debit day. She is lying. I couldve done that I mean is she trying to insult my intelligence? Yesterday I received a phone call from head office telling me about a cancellation fee of R100 and something as well as a penalty of R3000. I mean I literally used that gym for 3 days and now they are telling me about an amount over R3000? I am not willing to pay such an amount because I cant to afford to. Please help!

Aircons is not working and no air glow in the gym. I have emailed the manager of the gym many times and no response of improving. It is ridiculous!! People are moving gyms to Virgin Active for better quality and then they dont perform.

Decent gym, adequate equipment available but not top of the range. One of the more quiet gyms, peak hours quite busy. Not open after 2 on Sundays.

Poor service. My teen was turned back because of a glitch with their processes regarding a trial before we decided on a contract for him The manager was not willing to help. You guys have just lost an opportunity for a new contract. Keep up the good service.

Ive had no problems with the staff. Machines are old though. Sauna out of order. They seem to struggle with water supply on a regular basis. No Kauai so Ive been losing out on smoothes etc. Not the best vibe either.

Virgin Active’s in SA are some of the best gyms. That is if you’re lucky to stay close to some of the nice ones. If you stay in Midrand, you literally can go to a different gym everyday and all of them are top class with either a Nü or Kauai inside.I’ve lived and grew up in Kempton park and honestly Glen Acres Virgin Active sucks. The equipment has been the same for the past 12 year (for real)The equipment is bulky, uneven (probably because it’s worn out), does not run smoothly so it can cause some serious injuries. The bathrooms are old and unwelcoming. The fact that there is such a huge difference between you’re standard Virgin Active and this one is disgraceful. The dumbbells need upgrading and smith-machines,legpress, leg extension and hamstring curl machines are so outdated. Where’s the Technogym equipment? Even the water-fountains are old compared to the handsfree ones at Waterfall and Kayalami. You can also tell by staff morale that this gym sucks. The staff anywhere in midrand/randburg/centurion/fourways locations are so friendly and helpful. You’re a partner of Discovery, but there’s no Nü or Kauai in Kempton Park?Common guys? What’s the message you’re conveying? Higher privileged areas get better stuff? Everyone deserves the same standard of service and facilities.Rant over.#sorrynotsorry

The gym is large enough, but a lot of the equipment is not in great shape and some are blatantly broken. Around half of the Olympic weight plates they previously had are now gone - probably broken. At present, the pool is almost completely drained.

Great atsmosphere but yes, as most people that wrote earlier the gym needs newer equipment. Iv bin visiting since 2012 and the same equipment is still bing used to date.....when i go back to my durban gyms it feels like a completely diff gym company.
