The bar and restaurant provided for decades long different experiences for different people. It went through times of cheap drinks and cheap budget meals where young and old hang out. These days you can still experience the same late back approach of 20 years ago as the green spaces and views are the same. You can get a great oven baked 40 cm pizza for less than R100. The drinks are not that cheap anymore and most meals are not your typical budget meals, unless you go after the specials. Service levels are laid back and food takes long. It is still worth it to give it a visit now and then. The old mans marble game are not the main attraction. You can just sit back and enjoy the experience.

One of my favourite places to go to. Bowls Club has always been a firm favourite in my books. From the tasty food to the great service. Even after change of ownership it still its still a great place to go to after work for sundowners or for lunch with family and friends on the weekend!

Very nice atmosphere, exceptionally polite staff and very reasonable prices

A pale reflection of what it was 3 years ago. Prices have rocketed up and the ambience has declined from the heady student days of a few years ago. That said, vivid must have also negatively impacted patron numbers. The menu also offers far less diversity these days. I hope that we could one day get back to the previous rustic set up with more competitive prices

A lovely Sunday Market. Food at the restaurant was good, however due to them being understaffed it took extremely long for food and drink to arrive.

I have memories of going to this bowls club when I was 16. I am now 26 and still head to the zoo lake for a midweek dinner once a week. The staff are incredible and the food is always a treat. Cannot get over how large and delicious the pizzas are.

Service is amazing. Food is great amd parking is safe and secure.

My favourite part is when the Russians go there.

Good venue for a salsa party. Has a kitchen and a bar, and the bar staffs service is good.

It would be my favourite hangout in joburg, but I must subtract a star because the bowls greens are a bit slow. (Ive only played bowls there once.)

Great social and great food

Wonderful service, exceptional food and an overall great experience. I really appreciate the owners involvement with the review in the book presented to us. My father has been a patron for years and I will definitely be as well. I highly recommend the burgers or the pizzas!

Always a great experienceThe staff are friendly, the parking is secure and the WiFi is fast if you want to work fron there.

Our running group congregates here - the staff are friendly and take great care of us, and our beer is icy cold and the onion rings fat and delicious. Still one of the most affordable and lovely spots in Joburg, especially on a chilled Sunday afternoon.

Very chilled place. The food is excellent and the beer cold, and you dont often get a chance to have lunch next to a bowling green. Really feels like youre in the countryside.

Very peaceful atmosphere

This place always has a good vibe, their beers are served cold and their pizzas are delicious. But my pizza order was delayed and it was cold when I received it after waiting for 45 minutes. It seems like my order wasnt rung up initially and when it was ready to be served, was forgotten about again.

Slow bar service but good bands

Super chilled vibe, decent food and magnificent setting (especially in Spring). Staff are helpful and friendly and it’s dog friendly!

The bowl game field is great! Had lots of fun.The pizza and chips could be better.Overall, the game is fun to play in a large group. The instructor was excellent at explaining the game for first timers.

They were out of all beer except for SA brewery stock when we went.the burger was tasty and the chips were crispy and the oil used was fresh.But needs some work on the menu variety to restore it to its former popularity.

The bowls club is a fantastic addition to the Zoo Lake area and offers something for everyone. Their prices are reasonable and their various venues available for hire are quite useful too. Definitely worth a visit for those looking to explore a new part of the city.

Came for a private function which was being held here. They had arranged us a spot between the bowls lawns where we had two waiters attentively attending to our needs. Have a few beers on tap, had a decent plate of chips whilst I was there. Nice place to come geab a beer with friends and chat.

I had an AMAZING cheeseburger here with delicious chips. Good, loud music. The outdoor area is shielded from the wind and you can smoke Hubbly Bubbly here. Good vibes.

One of the most loveliest spots in Johburg. Very relaxed atmosphere. Very good food with a French touch for a relatively descent pricing. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Drinks are affordable. Food is excellent. The view is amazing. The service is good but could be a little faster. I keep returning because I enjoy it so much. The club has entertainment such as a quiz night and shows live sports games on the big screen. Give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

Hosted the Hollard Daredevil 2020. The facilities are clean and neat. Now I just have to learn to bowl to follow in the footsteps of Doug Watson(1976 world champion)

Its an awesome spot. The food is great, the staff are very friendly and the beer is cheap. You can also grab a game of lawn bowls and they supply balls and a coach. Great for noobs, team building or mates hanging out. They even cater for any functions at the venue.

The Zoo Lake Bowls club is a great place to get a drink with friends in the afternoon, with a lovely view and seating outside. Its inexpensive and its an old Johannesburg institution. Was closed for some time, and it has been renovated and reopened but feels pretty much the same as ever: cheap drinks, greasy bar food, drunk students and plastic chairs.

This used to be the spot. But, will need some work to get people coming back, and build trust for the menu, no matter what the price. Good luck to the team.

A really nice place surrounded by the park. There you find yourself living the city life with music, drinks and good food while being in the heart of nature.I would definitely recommend for a chilling afternoon with Friends. The place is so friendly that you can even bring your dogs.Moreover, the service is very good and the price very affordable. I tried their pizzas and have to say those are tasteful.What i like about the place was discovering bowling (south African version). People dont come only to eat and drink but really to share a moment of quality Time.One of my best memory in joburg. Go for it.

Food is good especially the Cheese Burger and chips. I like the fiery ginger beer. Service is ok, but can be improved. Used to be vibrant with pool tables and all, but now its just dead, music wise. Theres this quiz nite thing, which is really just saddening.

Yummy food, great value for money, friendly staff. Quiz night every Tuesday is good fun. Definitely worth a visit and well be going back as often as we can.

Best Place to Spend with your loved one its a very chilled place just that people dont respect the sign of Smoking and drinking in the park despite that all is well.
