The best place for a cocktail or a meal right by the beach in Hermanus ☀️🌊🐋

Good food, large well presented portions, lovely location, some whale watching while dining alfresco. Close to the beach kids can run and play at their leisure, lovely host and gracious service.

After arriving at the restaurant fairly Late we were Greeted by Jaques the manager who was more than happy to serve us at that late hour. Tsepo was exceptional as a Waitron but the food was out of this world even though the kitchen was nearly closed. We had Calamari, sushi and the most succulent pork belly and prawn skewer. All round great experience a hidden gem I will definitely return to.

We had their sirloin steak and it was perfectly prepared with great presentation. Tasted as great as it looked. Give them a try if you are in area of Grotto bay.

Great place to chill out and enjoy the fresh ocean air and beach.Service was good, but waitress not very friendly....maybe because the place was so busy?Love the outside seating area, but not the fact that you have cars driving by very close to patrons, emitting gas fumes as they do so.Cant they use the opposite beach side again?.. that was much better seating area.

Lovely restaurant on Grotto beach. Great for a casual breakfast or lunch. Dog friendly, good selection of foods with attentive waiters. Just beware windy days, we lost 2 wine glasses to the wind and i just managed to save my ice cream and chocolate sauce which is served in a tall cocktail-style glass.

Amazing food and excellent service! Eating there is always an overall great experience. Thank you to the staff for making an extra effort today in celebrating my 21st birthday.

Fantastic restaurant! Mouth-watering food with a view of the beach! Many cocktails available, seafood, sushi and Dutch inspired dishes. 100% would come again.

It’s a long weekend so we expected slow service. Waitress was friendly but the food is very average. Orders were incorrect, and the food was cold. Go for a beverage and the lovely view.

Beautiful setting, excellent and attentive service, good selection on menuI found the wine list slightly wanting, and on the pricey side.But definitely worth a visit, especially out of season

Great venue, friendly staff

I visited this charming beach restaurant/chiringuito three times during my recent stay in Hermanus. The location is perfect and the service on the whole was friendly and efficient. The food was good value and they used some fresh tasty ingredients. My only criticism is that the fries always tasted fishy. I suspect they use the same fryer for the different products (vegans and strict vegetarians beware!). Nevertheless Id recommend popping along and trying them out.

The setting of you can get a table under the trees is hard to beat. Fresh beer on tap although wine menu could be better. The menu always has something for everyone and the Dutch influences are a nice touch. Amazing bitteballen. But the sushi is the unsung hero here. Service always excellent here, really excellent

A wonderful restaurant at Grotto Beach in Hermanus, food is absolutely fabulous, excellent attentive service & I will certainly be back again to enjoy another fine meal. The cake menu is a wonderful treat too.

What a great little gem by the beach. Some original Dutch dishes and seafood. The calamari was succulent and the hake came apart perfectly. Others in the group had the tappa style food and was tasty. Limited wine selection. The staff was super friendly. Perfect for sundowners

Great breakfast, they even accommodated my crazy request for a pan fried egg. I heartily recommend them.

We ordered hake and calamari. It was delicious and the portion was enough. The waitress served us well.

Food enjoyable, staff amazing. Our dog received her own water bowl and freshly made doggie biscuits.Location the best for a late afternoon lunch and bottle of wine.

Lovely little restaurant on a beautiful beach. The Dorado was absolutely delicious. These guys gave fantastic service and really made for a great experience. I will definitely be recommending to friends. Thank you!

Perfect weather allowed for outside seating under the large tree. Pet friendly. Breakfast till 11am. Group of 11 and we could split the bill, which was great. Good breakfast selection. Very friendly staff and attentive manager. Bathrooms could have a face lift, hence not 5 stars. Ample parking and super view of the ocean across the road. Highly recommended.

Great location, but what a pity about the food and shockingly slow service. Quality of kroketten was below average, home made yes, but baked in old fat. Not something one could get away with in Amsterdam ! Salmon tasted frozen and had more mayo on it than fish. We waited an hour for our food and the Restaurant wasnt even busy. The waiter was unfriendly needless to say it cost nothing to smile ! I dislike places that think the location will excuse the poor food and service.

Love the friendly relaxed vibe- beautiful space right on the beach and so doggie friendly- even bake delicious doggie biscuits for our fur babies 🐕

Lovely setting. Food disappointing. Kiddies Bolognese comes with a blob of melted cheese solidifying the spaghetti in one large mass. Our daughter couldn’t eat it.

Arrived in Hermanus about 3 weeks ago. On arrival we wanted to celebrate a travel Milestone we reached. We asked the manager till what time we can place our order. He was friendly and assured us that we have time until 9pm. We took a quick feet dip in the ocean and headed to the restaurant. We ordered cocktails right away. The waiter was extremely rude with an attitude when we did not place our food order. This was at 8.30pm. We finished our cocktails and left.Not worth celebrating in an unfriendly environment.Never went back,never plan to go back.- Nitanja

Delicious grilled hake. Tasted more like kingklip. Great service and location overlooking beach and sea.

Far too expensive and the fish was on border line. Very sad as we used to go there often but R130 for fish and chips is ridiculous. Excellent fish and chips available in Hermanus central for half the price.

What a gem of a find.I had the pork and prawn skewer which was great, good kiddies options and reasonable priced.You looking at around R588 which will include 4 meals two cocktails and a cooldrink.( pricing also depends what is on a special)Definitely worth checking out.

Worst experience ever staff was very sarcastic and rude and also does not look like the even wanted to be there nor serve customers and cold beverages that is supposed to be cold was warm and staff did not want to do anything about it i was told that it is not their problem and bill and menu pricing was diffrent more expensive than the menus said if you ever consider this restaurant i felt after a long day at the beach the nice and happy mood was dropped over their customer service

We have been there several times now and the reason is good food, reasonable prices and always delightful friendly service. A beach restaurant that you need to book!

The service is great. The owners and managers are always super hands on. They do not mind dogs at all - they are very tolerant of doggos. The grilled calamari is the best calamari I think Ive ever had. Order it with salad for a light lunch. View is also excellent. They are also very covid cautious!

Great location & the manager is very friendly & accomodating - he very kindly moved us to an outside table upon request even though it was technically full outside. Had the salmon eggs benedict which was tasty, but unfortunately it seems they used bread rolls instead of english muffins (not a disaster but it would have been better with the traditional English muffin). Great view & friendly staff. We always find ourselves coming back.

Dreadful food. Second time we have tried it but wont be back. Only positive is the beautiful setting.

I am usually a generous rater but the service is mediocer, food was awful and the prices are too high for South Africa.Finally this place is a tourist trap with over priced food. If you want a nice place to eat try lizzets. Beach view is good.

Awesome views over Grotto Beach which is a stone throw away from the restaurant..fantastic service..delicious food..followed by a walk on a pristine sandy beach that stretches for miles and is pet friendly
