Awesome pet friendly place. We only stopped over for a drink on the way home. The staff were excellent. Great service. Nice outside area, very relaxed vibe. They even have a hiking trial. We just came back from one so didnt get to use it but will go back to try it sometime. I know its a German Swiss restaurant so my point not really valid but only suggestion if I could make one is just to add a few more vegetarian options on the menu. Would have stayed for lunch if there was something I could eat. No fault of the restaurant, as I say, its German and its meant to be meat.
Wow! This was an unexpected delight. The service is absolutely outstanding, led by Mike the owner who clearly has a deep passion for all things German/Swiss! We were given a brief history lesson on the origins of our dish and taken on a taste adventure. It really was such a great visit and I will definitely be back!
Hidden gem! We took a road trip and decided stop here... What an amazing place, the most amazing staff. The owner greets every table. Cannot explain in this post how awesome this place is
Had a great lunch. If it wasnt for hearing the odd car on the road, youd think that you are far away in the African Bush. My Eisbein was a little dry but the rest of the food was amazing. The sausages are apparently homemade on site. There are lots of dogs around. They seek your attention (and possibly something more) - especially while youre eating, so if this is not your thing, it can be a little annoying.
This place is out of this world! Every meal is made from scratch... wait. Let me rather say every ingredient is made from scratch. Its inexplicable! Its wholesome, its pure, its such amazing food.
This place delivers, the food is great, the place is beautiful if you like nature and humble settings, our waiter was clueless and didnt bring us anything we asked for but Mike makes up for all his staff shortcomings, he is a brilliant host and always welcoming with a smile on his face. The accomodation is very spacious with beautiful views of the dam and surrounding. The best thing about this place is pet friendliness, so you can bring your dogs with...
Awesome food!!! And everyone is so friendly. You will see us again.
Nice place for lunch out in the country. Food was good - try the pork belly - that was really good. Would have been 5 stars but we ordered a cappuccino and it was made from an instant coffee sachet...
I drive by this venue twice a week and decided to take my german friend for supper. What a dissapointment we had. The venue was dirty the bar was untidy the german beer my friend order was the incorrect beer. We were given 2 menus but as soon as we ordered from the one it was said all of that is not available....bad. on the other menu was food to choose from....not german. We got our food and it was not presented well....on a floor tile. The food on there was mostly not german. My friend the german guy hardly touched his food. We paid the bill and left back to East Rand . We will never go back there
We stopped here after a hike at Hennops and it was exactly what we needed! We were met by the owner who was very graceful about how dusty and sweaty we were! We sat outside although there is ample indoor dining. The waiters were young, but so friendly, helpful and attentive - well done ladies! There are a few resident dogs on site who don’t pester you one bit and are super friendly. We ate pizza 🍕 and burgers 🍔 and were VERY happy with the food! Our burger patties were slightly overdone, but we are food snobs and enjoy medium rare meat and burgers - HOWEVER, they were packed with flavour and “home made” as opposed to patties from Checkers or PnP. We also had the best lockdown coffee ever!!! We will definitely be back! The owner takes a keen interest in this restaurant and it shows. Un-related tips: the drive from Hennops to the restaurant was at most 14km, past NECSA (government owned energy plants) - just be aware of the potholes on this stretch of road and drive slower.
Me and my fiance always have a wonderful time here. They have great food and fantastic beer. They were even gracious enough to give me a free schnapps when i went there for my Birthday. 🍻🍺
Nice relaxing sunday aftermoon
Amazing as always! My wife and I have been coming here almost every weekend for over a year now. Yes, it’s that good! The food is amazing, the team are very friendly, attentive and quick, and the vibe is always homey and warm. It’s like visiting a German uncle who happens to be an amazing chef :)
Great food and host Michael is a true gent
The food is amazing, would definitely try the Zebra fillet, really unique experience and amazing food
Great experience , people was very friendly and conciderate, the owner was very passionate about his restaurant and was very friendly. Food was fantastic especially the potato salad! The doggos kept us company the whole time and even fell asleep on me and my friends lap, they didnt beg for food when the food arrived and was very well behaved. Would 100% recommend to friends! 🔥❤
Great wine, service and food in an ultra relaxed atmosphere. Wonderful place to spend a few hours on a beautiful Spring afternoon.
The rustic feel and atmosphere of the place is amazing. And that is the only good thing that I can say about the place. The service was slower than any other place I have been to. The food was surprisingly bad, and really not worth the price. Overall I will not be going back there which is unfortunate as i really really liked the whole idea and atmosphere of the place.
The food was delicious and fresh yosters were served...will definitely visit again.
AFRICANSWISS has always been a favourite Restaurant of mine! Fantastic German food, best you can have! Beautiful setting and relaxed vibe. I attended the Oyster fest last Weekend and was overjoyed about the choices of the different Oyster dishes on offer and the wonderful wine pairing! Just one word I have for it, AMAZING!
Had my Birthday Dinner here, food was really good and so was the atmosphere, definitely recommend the Pork Ribs as well as the baked cheesecake. Shout out to the bartender for the Frozen Margarita. Will definitely be back!
Quite an interesting visit. Some European beers on tap, good food and good service. All in all a pretty nice outdoor vibe. Id recommend.Strangely they have oysters, wish us luck. (Edit, we survived the oysters.)
What a marvellous place, highly recommendedHidden little restaurant, definitely worth going there againThe food was fantasticThank you for a wonderful service, and very friendly and welcoming staff
Had a fantastic time here. Food was super and the whole outdoors, country feel was great. Will definitely be back.
Seriously good food in an absolutely beautiful setting... Super friendly staff and owner. I would definitely go back!
A huge disappointment.Arrived for a booked table to be told no seating available. After a plan was made we where seated. Drinks order took 20 minutes. When we saw a frozen margaritas served to a table next to us we were sold. But wait the drinks we got nothing like the table. No salt and seemed half the size. Finally the food was served 1 hour later. The waitress was useless menues brought dirty. Makes sense as they where never picked all the way through the meal. Drinks served on a dirty table had to ask 3 times for it to be cleaned. The food was Below avarage. Dry and tastlest ribs will nor recommend to anyone.First round of empty glasses and cans still on table even when Bill brought. Will not be back.
The food was amazing!! And it was my first time tasting their German beer which tasted really good.
The pork belly and platters were good. Particularly enjoyed the mashed potato and beer!
Amazing restaurant! The owner is very friendly and enjoys chatting with his guests...The eisbein is incredible - definitely a must to try.The venue has adequate seating, inside and outside... The staff are all friendly and there is a great atmosphere.
Beer and oysters was very delicious. You are spoiled with different choices and the taste is out of this world. Great restaurant and great food.
Rustic stop over on the way to Hartbeespoort dam, really nice experience, cheerful and friendly owner, lovely staff. If you love dogs you will love it here, my daughter was in her element.
Very friendly staff and pet friendly.
Very nice place I would go back again any time
If u want to have the best Wiener Snitzel in SA, u must come to this place. Sit in the garden, enjoy an Erdinger Weissbier or a glass of wine to delicious food. Strongly recommend.
Friendly staff. The food was excellent. Went for the cheese fondue, which was a bit on the dull side
Love the people the atmosphere is so welcoming and the food is amazing. The owner makes you feel like family and his suggestions are out of this world
Amazing food of great quality - atmosphere very tranquil and therapeutic. Owner and staff make you feel like a guest whos at a home away from home
Munich white sausage breakfast with schnapps & beer fantastic
Excellent pizza, food was good. Nice atmosphere, relaxed.
Relaxing atmosphere, brilliant service and amazing food and drinks
Great atmosphere. We went there for breakfast after taking a 6km hike. Service was good also
Great place Great food really nice cheese cake and bread
Friendly host, great beer and food. I would recommend a visit
A stunning atmosphere, with great food and hearty management and staff. Great for a Sunday Blues mood!
Very nice place .Enjoyed the Eisbein mmmmm delicious.
Lovely setting, very interesting and welcoming owner. Delicious food and wonderful atmosphere. The sweet Resturant dogs add to the homely vibe too. Do visit if you can, a cold German Beer 🍺 is the best!
After having lunch at African Swiss with my family, my son fell into their open septic tank and had to go to an Emergency room. I was promised the area would be cordoned off. After returning 3 weeks later there was no change. This septic tank is near the childrens play area. The owner shows zero regard for health and safety or for human life as the owner of this establishment. I was appalled by his lack of accountability or willingness to correct the septic tank issue...Edit: Just to be clear about something - the only time I have returned to your disgusting restaurant is to evaluate the situation of the septic tank and we DID NOT EAT there (which you know full well), which unfortunately I found in the following state (see picture). Needless to say, your lack or care for human life- be it your patrons or your staff (or their kids)- is appalling. And your response and lies are sickening.Edit (×2): Please bear in mind that I have no reason to Lie regarding this situation. You on the other hand... are trying to save face. Just fix the open septic tank issue. That is all!
Worth the visit. Excellent service and food. Great COVID-19 protocols in place.
What a lovely relaxing Sunday afternoon. My wife and I had a lovely meal. No rush, wonderful outdoor experience. Mike , the owner looks after us like family. My wife, Sue , was on crutches and the staff were so helpful. All the meals are cooked from scratch, so kick back, enjoy the atmosphere, have a drink and enjoy the fantastic meal.We will deffinately visit again.
A very rustic and relaxed environment. Outdoors amongst trees and shrubs.Food was very good with excellent service however the food was expensive - more than what I would pay for similar dishes in the city.
I enjoyed the food and ambiance. Derrick, our waiter was pretty helpful (even though the company I was in were a A LOT🙂), he handled them (or us) quite gracefully!!Had very interesting conversations with Mike, the owner.
It was fantastic!Great German beer and the pizza is delicious! The owners are very passionate about the food
Amazing spot with lovely welcoming staff set in a beautiful outdoor environment and pet friendly.I wont be trying the cheese fondue again as it was very disappointing... But will definitely be back for something else!
It was Lovely, I was pleasantly surprised by the food and there is a calm, relaxed feeling around the place.
Nice out of town chill place 💯 gives you the calm village feel...
Lovely food and setting but shew its pricey.
Excellent food. We test small Italian antipasto with home make bread, German platter and sausage and sauercrauts: doesnt see african location. Perfect. Owner and workers very friendly and professional. Location beautiful. One stop is a must
Nice place to get together at Hartbeespoort. Good food
We attended the lively Oyster Festival hosted at AfricanSwiss over the weekend, which was also my first experience of AfricanSwiss itself. Nestled against the backdrop of the beautiful Magaliesberg, just off the side of Hartebeespoort Dam, the venue is fairly easy to spot off the R512. The venue is cosy, comfortably spilling over into the bushveld biome, giving a relaxed South African atmospheric experience. The hosts and employees are warm and welcoming, and the food is quintessentially African + Swiss, mixing two taste palettes effectively. AfricanSwiss has plenty potential for growth and refining, service can be sharpened-up and guided, but other than that a perfect getaway for weekend runs/outings, and possibly weekday haunts for potential locals.
Had to wait 2.5 hours and when the meal arrived it was poorly cooked, mediocre in flavour and half the order was wrong. The owner and staff kept blaming load shedding which hadnt been in effect for weeks....one to avoid
Good food and service. Felt welcome. Larges eisbein ever
A taste of the ocean in the middle of the bush 🏖🏕
A unique experience, food excellent and good value, friendly service
The best German food around. All produce is home grown by the owner, and freshly prepared. What a treat.
Very friendly staff, very pet friendly, lovely to hike - though a bit tough up the mountain, food was great - fondue was a bit bitter, but after a while you get used to it, great german Beer. Just what the doctor ordered.
Love the atmosphere. Food was brilliant. Hosts amazing
Delicious food 😋. Was my first time the experience was 👌
Amazing restaurant! Food was brought timeously and piping hot! The owner has an amazingly humble soul! If you are near the area, you wont be sorry.
Nice service and fun birthday drink
Amazing garden restaurant for the weekend.. great german food!
The finest cuisine around, out of the usual, rather refined European if not German Swiss styled food but with a touch of Africa. Super friendly staff, best value for money. I recommend to try it on your next weekend outing, a booking secures a place in the sun.
Awesome food! Great people! Beautiful setting - worth every once of the resulting Gout! 10/10 would go every time!
Always amazing Mike and his staff !!! Will recommend to anyone ! Excellent food !! Keep up the good work
The place looks amazing..... but the huge problem is that your service is the slowest, and food is bad and very expensive. The Family platter received was dreadful and very poor. I had high expectations for this place but turns out to be the worst, next time when arriving in Hartbeespoort we will dine at a better place who is consistent with providing good services and better food. By looking at the previous re-views I really had high expectations and I hoped for the best........Guys you need to up your game, get better chefs and commcommunicate . The funny part is that You have a great plot and view but you are not using it wisely.YOU NEED TO START THINKING LIKE A STRIKER AND NOT A DEFENDER
Great food, German beers, venue, friendly staff and chatty owner. Loved our lunch!
Excellent food and great outdoor seating
Not the best I have been to during covid. Waitress had a mask on while serving. Owner visiting tables not wearing a mask talking to everyone insisting there is no covid with the heat. We had to ask for the table to be sanitized no temperatures taken. So thanks but no thanks.
