This place has been around for decades, great bakery and fantastic restaurant. The pies are excellent as are the pastries. The biscuits are expensive but you wont be disappointed if you take the Honey snaps.

Always a pleasure to visit here, a true bakery, lots of traditional treats, awesome breads, well worth the visit, but get there early, by 10 or 11, all the good stuff is gone.

To be honest I dont like coming here 😁, Ill walk in, determined just to buy one or two items but always walk out with a lot more. I just cannot resist their pastries, pies and other tasty goodies. Only the highest quality sold here. De Backery has been in Edenvale for as long as I can remember

Our first visit at this restaurant was outstanding!! Very friendly staff and meals were delicious.Great work to the owner,our waitress Minah for welcoming us and treating us with such excellence,will be back again for sure!!! And not to mention the bakery below the restaurant.Highly recommended.

De Bakery is legendary! Best pies EVER! Lots of delightful Dutch dishes and their cakes are also so divine. They are definitely not cheap but you wont find a better sausage roll on this continent, of that I can assure you, so well worth it!

I have such great memories of getting all sorts of goodies from this wonderful bakery in my youth. I would say around 1980. I used to just love their curry pies which had rice in them. Well maybe Ill be in my old hood one day. Will certainly make a turn.

Bought freshly baked rye bread, nougatini, pies and biscuits. The pies are AWESOME, the bread is so fresh, its incredibly soft and the biscuits: melt-in-the-mouth perfect!! Very more-ish and yummy goods, Im so glad I discovered this place, its a real gem😁

Good eats, but the customer service leaves much to be desired. I have been there on 3 different occasions, but I always feel like I am causing the staff an inconvenience.In saying that, the baking staff should be highly commended.

The choice of cakes is very wide and they are very good quality. Not cheap. And of course they sell traditional dutch kroketten. I particularly like the wide selection of imported dutch treats which are kept in a separate shop (De Soete Inval) across the alleyway.

Sadly the Restaurant section has been closed...perhaps with positive support from the local community, we could get it to re-open again...the bakery downstairs is still operating so please give it your support too..

This is a pastry shop to die for. They use real butter and you can taste it in the pastries and pies. The quiches are heavy and stack with real ingredients. Makes for a nice light lunch or supper. The danishes is just jummy and I can go on and in. Go and taste for yourself.

This bakery is something out of a fairy tale, I grew up in Hurlyvale, not too far away. My mom use to bring back pies, pancakes and their famous sausage rolls....I am overseas now and when I think of home De Bakery always pops to mind as part of those happy memories. Beautiful business, happy people and you can taste the love

I have been to this place many times. It is a great and unusual restaurant built to match the Dutch lifestyle and culture. During my last visit I sadly noticed lack of maintenance, lack of supervision to keep the place clean and the service was unfortunately slow. It is such a beautiful place and a pity to see the lack of good management. I will be back in couple of weeks and hopefully experience a few positive chances. I wish the new management to be successful and fix what can be fixed. The downstairs shop offers some great Easter treats and has a small variety of European sweets and treats. Because the restaurant is in the upper floor there is no access to the restaurant for people in a wheelchair. The shop is on the ground floor and above is the restaurant.

Spent not a large sum of money a total of R99. Two Cornish pasties, rolls an both pasties are off. Sour to taste not the usual high standard 2nd time this week. For the amount charged for the pies its despicable , get your quality right.

Love this bakery, love all their products, but particularly their Bali Nasi is delicious! the vegetarian pies are the best I have ever tasted! I also love their rye bread, low GI bread and their fruit loaf. Yum! I am making myself hungry 😋

De Backery is a family owned and run little gem. A great variety of sweet and savoury baked goods.Their pies are absolutely delicious.Their cakes, muffins and tarts are an absolute treat.Also on the menu is bread rolls, sandwiches and sometimes pancakes. Worth a visit, for sure

With its trademark windmill, now painted green, De Backery is a landmark in Edenvale since many can remember (1963) and a haven of quality baked goods. When I am in the area, I always try to drop in. De Backery specializes OBVIOUSLY in Dutch treats....in the area and peckish, ask for a croquette on a roll with Mustard (jummy)(R21.50) and take home some biscuits as well : From Bokkepootjes to Speculaas to Bitterkoekje, they are all there...AND dont forget the Ventco drop en Schoolkrijt sweets packets. Sit upstairs in de oude molen and enjoy a typical Dutch meal...Uitsmyter and Pancakes.
