I bought an RC car from Model World for my son. Neville, the owner, recommended this car as, should anything go wrong, the spares would be readily available.When the car stopped working, we brought the car in to the shop.Neville misdiagnosed the problem several times, and repeatedly lied about the delivery lead times of the spares:First he blamed the battery and claimed that it had been charged/discharged incorrectly. On checking the battery we found that there was nothing wrong with it.Then he blamed the switch, so we left the store to replace the switch. This did not solve the problem, so we went back to Neville.He then blamed the receiver, which he told us we could order and would be delivered next week.Over a month later the receiver finally arrived, and it turned out not to be the problem.We have now established that it is the servo, which Neville informed us would arrive early next week. Come end of the week, there is still no sign of the servo.When I asked him respectfully about the differences between his promised lead times and what is actually happening, he got defensive and told me to rather order it myself.This I am going to do:I have learnt to diagnose the issues myself, and I will order the components from Jeffrey Stein Sales via one of their other Durban dealers.Neville can keep the money that he owes us: R600 is a cheap price to pay to not have to deal with him.I would recommend that other potential customers follow a similar strategy and save themselves the time and irritation, plus some money.

What an awesome experience. The shop owner is very knowledgeable about RC cars. He was super helpful and gave me very good advice. He went so far as to demo and show me how to operate the RC car. He also charged the battery for me so that it was good to go. I highly recommend this store for your RC purchases. Im new to the RC scene and I was guided very well.

Probably the largest and most expansive model shop when it comes to RC cars, Trucks, Planes, Helicopters as well as stationary models for display purposes in the Durban Area. Definitely the largest in Westville and its possibly the only one within a reasonable distance from Durban itself unless theres some smaller shops I havent seen yet (Denkit in Umhlanga and Springfield plus another in Gateway are all closed leaving this the only big one I can find).When it comes to RC the store specializes in Traxxas vehicles due to easy availability of spare parts to get into the country. There is also a significant amount of Tamiya kits and parts for those in stock. Arrma, ECX and Axial Vehicles (plus any others from Horizon Hobby) are currently encountering massive issues with delivering spares to South Africa so parts arent readily available however there are some vehicles available here if you like. The shop has a variety of types of RC ranging from semi-trucks, planes, cars, rock crawlers, monster trucks and short course trucks so whatever youre after youll most likely find it either Ready-To-Run (RTR) or in a building kit. Accessories and other components such as transmitters and batteries are also available including the unique Traxxas batteries or adapters for their ID plug so no matter what brand you run you can most likely find batteries and chargers for it plus some other accessories.When it comes to display models the shop has a wide variety of plastic model kits from brands like Tamiya which you have to build up along with the required paints, glues and other construction materials. There is also a very large selection of prebuilt diecast models that come in boxes that cover topics such as racing, street cars, exotics, military and industrial/logistics heavy duty machinery. If youre into building scale dioramas then there are scenic pieces available to purchase such as houses and landscape features along with figures and general infrastructure.There are also model train sets in stock and theyre predominantly from Hornby although the range is nowhere as big as the plastic models or RC Cars. There are a few options available though and a large amount of other items that you may like to use as accessories for your model railway.The staff here are very friendly and knowledgeable and Neville and Cayleen in particular were of great assistance when we purchased a Traxxas Slash earlier today. Cayleen was a great help when it came to checking through their stock and helping us with the different models availability while Neville is very knowledgeable on RC and whats worth spending money on. I definitely recommend giving this shop a look if youre into any scale hobby related things or if youre planning on taking the plunge because Ill be spending quite some time here in the future.Also a very big thank you again to Cayleen for assisting my grandmother in and out of the shop since shes in a wheelchair and the extra hands were much appreciated.

We are always been met and great warmly at that place. Last time we needed to get a paint for model, we been assisted with all attention we could imagine.Pity that place is mostly empty, probably because of such specifics of their product: models of WWII and modern. But my son is ready to spend there hours, and hours, and ready to leave all his pocket money there.Wish the Model World more and more customers!

Shop was open, upon entry the store attendant was rude and dismissive. Did not even greet us. We were met with an aggressive Did you order?. Nowhere at the store front or website does it say no customers allowed in the store. For all we know he was making this rule up. All other shops are open for customers. Disgusting service.

Awful service. Was told that customers were not allowed in the store yet the doors were wide open.I see reviews from people who entered the store just weeks before with no problem. Perhaps they only let certain customers in. Went and spent R4k elsewhere. Do yourself a favor and dont bother shopping here

Pity you cant give a sub zero review. I cant say their after sales service was bad because there wasnt any. Once they have your money you are on your own.

This shop makes you feel young again. You think youre coming to buy for you kids (yeah that too...) but the range and options is so extensive that you cant help by spoiling yourself as well.Neville has the experience beyond any other model shop master technician- you could bring a broken up rc from all the beating and he would immediately look at it the moment you walk in and try to fix it while your eyes look around to more ways to tickle ones fantasy (you cant help but want to buy more).The service is amazing and he has a cool laugh- almost as if he was bringing Frankenstein back to life when he talks about speed, offroad etc. Cayleen is also very well knowledge and is extremely helpful. They make a great team and run a very successful enterprise.I also love supporting local shops and I would highly recommend this shop to anyone out there. Please carry two sets of money with you- your budget and your happiness hehe. They do not sell you unnecessary stuff so blame yourself when you walk out the store and smile for days later when youre playing.

Very disappointed, got there at 13.20pm, on the website it said the place closes at 14:00 just to find the shop was closed. The shop has a notice on the door aswell showing the times and it clearly shows Saturday open 08:00 - 14:00. I can understand if perhaps it was a slow day or something like that but then have a notice above the sign saying Closed or if youve gone out quick put a sign stateing that...

Excellent service with a wide range of stock. The owner is always helpfully, very patient when teaching you to fly and will to give you good advice. Not always what you want to hear but what you need to hear. Does not try to sale you staff just to sale it. Highly recommended.

Very disappointed with the service I received from a guy by the name of Neville, I had been looking for a model car for quite some time. Told him to email me banking details. After almost an hour, did not receive them, called back and he says It will get sent tomorrow or whenever, I do not do that ,I have people to do it . Absolutely shocking at the lack of interest in a sale. If you are the owner, you can at least be more polite when conversing with a customer. I would have deposited the money this very afternoon itself.
