Had a very, very good breakfast here. The prices are also reasonable and a big attraction. Were looking forward to trying out the Monday special, hopefully its as good as the regular offerings.Only quibble - beautiful decor and surroundings BUT some of the chair and table arrangements are simply uncomfortable and the chairs dont fit under the tables properly - Im looking at you, metal barstools! You end up banging your knees and just being uncomfortable which is a pity.If they get the seating comfy so that you can really sit and relax and enjoy their lovely surroundings itd be a 5 star experience for sure. Everything else is SO good, the seating is the only thing holding them back.Well worth the money and parking was easy and available no issues there. Definitely worth a visit, youre in for a treat at Country Bake! 🙂

Went yesterday 08/08 for breakfast..overall experience was pretty disappointing.Food took almost an hour to come.I ordered the signature burger with pepper sauce, home made patty was bland and small. The pepper sauce tasted like a regular white sauce with no pepper taste what so ever. To add to the disappointment, the food arrived kinda cold. Wife ordered pie chips and gravy. The pie was fine, however the gravy was served in a tiny sauce dish. It tasted like prego sauce and nothing like a gravy should. Also chips were cold when food came in. Very disspointing, given the raving reviews on social media. Makes me think people online are paid to leave good reviews. A no for me.

Took my mother for a mothers day high tea at a country Bake. And All I can say is what a wonderfully warm and welcoming little bakery. The staff are friendly and helpful. Everyone was checking on whether we were okay and comfortable. The lovely waiter was so accommodating that he even put a table into the art gallery next door so we could have our own space. It was so affordable at R150 per person and the teas and coffees were bottomless. Now lets get down to the eats. They were absolutely scrumptious! My word I loved everything I ate 😍 The little delicate milk tarts and pecan nut tarts (which was my favorite and I absolutely loved and recommend), the delightful savouries such as chicken and sweet corn moons, samoosas, spring rolls and other divine morsels that I honestly dont know the names off. The macaroons were so soft an delicious. You can see from the photos how good they all looked. Mum and I were enjoying chatting and catching up and our fabulous waiter even heated up my tea for me. Im my opinion this is a hidden gem and I cant wait to go back with my husband ❤️

Placed my pizza order on the phone. Lady said will be ready in 15 minutes. Ended up waiting over 45 minutesWas so fed up with the staff as everytime I asked whats going on they said its ready its ready. When I asked for a refund after waiting 40 minutes everyone ignored me even the owners son. After almost an hour finally received my pizzas. What a waste of money. They are tiny. Crust is so thin its practically eating a crispy roti. Not much flavour at all. Absolutell disappoint

The bakery is great with a variety of fresh cakes and breads and will return for this. We had breakfast which really was average. Eggs Benedict with salmon was served a fresh side salad and two very sadly poached eggs. Tramezzimi overly spicy. Service is also extremely slow but not due to lack of staff...maybe the kitchen

Service wasnt too great. Some of the staff made us feel as though we were an inconvenience for ordering food. Another employee messed up what we ordered from the sweet treats/baked goods section. We were given the incorrect prices for some stuff. Food was not great either. Overall an underwhelming and mediocre experience.

Absolutely abysmal food and service! The high tea as advertised was not what was provided at all. A tiny spread that was never refilled. The Savoury items were particularly sad, dry and lackluster. As for the venue that was hired out its daylight robbery to charge for a venue that was dirty and full of stock and basically a shop. Instead of trying to rectify our complaints about the food and service the management just proceeded to argue with us. I would strongly dissuade anyone from going to Country Bake. Definitely the worst high tea I have ever been to!

The food here was absolutely amazing, we ordered breakfast but were so hungry we didnt have time to take pics of it. The meal was well proportioned and absolutely tantalizingly tasty. After breakfast we couldnt resist their tea and cake special which was R30 for a slice of cake or mini pie with a cup of coffee or tea. I dont know about you but for me thats a bargain. The cake was absolutely delightful I just couldnt get enough. The staff were amazing and super accommodating.

My bridal shower was booked to take place at Country bake with the Art Gallery specifically booked to host this event. The description of what was to take place as opposed to what actually was provided was complete opposites.Firstly, the area wasnt tidy and was clutteredThere were no floral arrangements as promised. There was bare minimal to nothing placed on tablesThe spread wasnt really a spread as it consisted of the bare minimum. The service was poor,a waitress had to be called in order to service the table. The coffee was bitter and disgusting for a coffee shop.An overall very disappointing experiencePictures compared to reality paints a complete different idea of what was actually provided. After putting in so much of time and effort by a group of ladies it all went in vain when guests hardly ate due to the atmosphere of the venue.Guests were not informed they could participate in the high tea that was inside the actual coffee shop.Very small and miniscule portions of certain desserts This was the definition of a dismal failure.

Review №54

Great service and setting.Unfortunately the food is surely disappointing! Went mainly for the nostalgia of the old Country Bake in town.Mutton Curry pies were utterly horrid - pastry was oily, orange and soggy. The flavour was really not palatable. Not to mention the over-spiced gravy. Chips are crispy yet are plagued with MSG artificial flavouring. Greek chicken was horrendous - had a foul taste. However, the Belgica Tart and Chocolate Pyramid was reasonable.Country Bake has a lot of potential. The bakery is surely one of the best in Durban. However, the food requires refinement and the menu a careful reconstruction.

Food is good. Savouries are tops. Cakes are fine. And fresh juices superb. A little overpriced though, and sometimes portions and preparation are inconsistent. I had reason to complain. I must be fair though, it was well recitified. I am a regular customer. Owners and managers should learn to smile more, and welcome their customers ever so much more warmly.

My family and I went here for breakfast after the lockdown, and we felt nothing but disappointment. Firstly the scrambled eggs were grey and smelt like burnt pots and chemicals, no words to really describe it. We had never experienced something like that before, and the fact that it left the kitchen in that state was shocking because we smelt it the second it came towards our table. Secondly, the breakfast croissants had the same eggs, and the kitchen scooped everything out and re-used the same croissants with a new filling, instead of offering us something different (because the croissants were sold out). Manager and chef did not come to apologise until we called him. However, after speaking to the manager, he discounted and offered us something from the bakery on the house. Will not be returning for breakfast again after this horrible experience. Would rate 0.Edited in response to your feedback:We visited at 9:30am on Sunday 20/09/2020

I wanted to treat my dear friend to a special outing and thought a High Tea would be just the ticket. The advert was beautiful, it looked classy and elegant. What we got was NOT a High Tea, more a ladies finger food party. No table cloths, no linen napkins, you get tissue serviettes as if you were at a braai. No flowers on the table. The tea came with a teabag in a teacup of water! The food was laid out buffet style, which is NOT Covid regulation friendly. You queue to serve yourself on sideplates. How does one justify R150 for serving yourself on sideplates? The ONE thing I will commend is their baking, their cakes and tarts are divine but best bought home-industry style and taken home.I guess the only place to go to for an elegant High Tea would be the Oyster Box. Its best to pay the extra for that classy touch.
