Was there over the rugby long weekend. Was very dissapointed and wouldnt reccomend.1. Arrived after a long drive and nobody opened up for us, waited by gate and called owner and still nothing happened. Upon calling a second time we were asked to go into town for a bit while he sorted it out. Eventually we were notified that we can go back.2.Place doesnt look as spacious and nice as in the pictures.3.the braai area is against the fence/sidewalk and very close to units. Not ideal and no privacy.4. Parking not secure. Gate locks with only a lock and fence looks flimsy and not very secure for a open parking area.5.Stairs look like a safety hazard and very slanted.6.Our night light for outside didnt work. So we had to use phone flashlight to see where we were walking when coming back from dinner.7. Day 2 units are very close to the gate and we were bothered by someone in the street yelling by the gate for a ride/lift or money and wouldnt leave. He saw the car and asked whos car that was and asked for a lift numerous times , eventually went out to hear what the issue was and gave him money just to leave us alone. So no privacy or safety from strangers.8.on day 1 our Tv didnt work for the whole stay/weekend and it wouldve been nice to relax in bed and watch a movie after a long day. Told owner and he said hell have it fixed the next day... Nothing happened.9.Unit roof looks damaged on some spots and looked dirty etc.10. Upon arrival bedding had brown marks on them and looked filthy.11. Only thing nice about this place is the fact that the lady cleaned our units every day and that theres both a bath and a shower in the unit.(Had to stay the full weekend there since we were unable to get accommodation anywhere else due to it being a long weekend) so no for the price and reasons stated above would not recommend staying there.

We went to Clarens for 5 days, and decided to stay at the Clarens Lantern. The prices were good and the photos on their website looked great. As there was just 2 of us, we booked to stay at one of the one bedroom options.We booked directly through their website and the owner did not leave us any instructions for us on arrival. Upon arrival, no one was there to greet us. After about 15 minutes of waiting, someone came out from the room we were going to be staying and opened the gate for us.I just want to also note, that nowhere on the website does it tell you the condition of the road, but I would recommend against having a low to the ground car. The gate at the bottom is also very badly designed and requires you to drive as close to the right hand side as possible or you will scratch the bottom of your car quite badly. We had to find this out the hard way as the woman that opened the gate for us did not inform us of this.If you are staying in the 1 bedroom units, just be aware that there is only a very steep staircase as entry into the little cottage. The cottage itself is spacious enough for two people, but just note you will get no privacy as there is no door between the toilet and the rest of the room. We ended up having to take turns sitting outside while the other one did their business.Their website boasts having feather down duvets, which would be perfect for winter considering the unit we stayed in had a glass door as an entrance and tiled flooring, none of which trap the heat inside. This was not the case however, the duvet was just normal synthetic material and the only way to warm up the room was a tiny oil heater that did not do the job.The room also boasted free wi-fi, but the signal was so bad that we could only manage to get one device to connect to it.Im sure the main house is maintained better than the smaller units, but if you are looking for a 2 person trip, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Clarens Lantern is such a great place to stay , especially for big families and pets! The place is so accessible, and proximity to the square is walking distance!The house is so well equipped, and clean and neat! The little attention to details, really made our stay very memorable.The owner and housekeeper were very accommodating and communication was a breeze! We will definitely be back, and highly recommend for your next family holiday in Clarens!

We had a lovely stay at Clarens Lantern. The room was very neat and tidy. It has a lovely view of the mountains and it is a perfect self-catering accommodation with everything you need. We were even spoiled with a complimentary bottle of wine. Would recommend this to anyone looking for self-catering accommodation.

On a trip to Clarens we had the opportunity to stay at the Clarens Lantern. The house is spacious and well equipped. It looks like it was recently revamped as everything appears new. The place was clean and we will gladly stay there again.A bonus is that it is within walking distance to the center of the village where all the restaurants and little shops are.Excellent venue and value for money.

Very clean, was met with a smiling friendly face. Anton and his team really go out of their way to make you feel like an old friend staying over for a night or 2.The view of the mountain is fantastic!!All of the goodies you need for a braai if you want to!

This place is truly amazing! Really beautiful with all the bells and whistles. Self catering at its best. Definitely would recommend this to anyone, especially larger groups of 5-7, this is perfect for you. All bedrooms have their own on suites and the house even has WiFi included. Loved our stay here!

A wonderful place to spend your holiday at, clean suite ,clean environment,clean and fresh linen, we enjoyed our stay and before we knew it we had to leave, it was very early to leave such a wonderful place ,l fully recommend the place its amazing.

A dream house 😍🏫

We were 5 couples and everyone was comfortably catered for. Everything was there to cater for a self service weekend from a well appointed kitchen with a huge scullery, to a fantastic outdoor braai on the verandah. The two seperate entrance flatlets/rooms even have their own little kitchens! Unbelievable goose down and feather pillows, linen and duvets made by the owners enterprise, on excellent quality mattresses in all 5 bedrooms. All bedding also for sale at their shop in Clarens. The whole villa was tastefully furnished and decorated, with ample security for the premises. I would certainly recommend Clarens Lantern for a large group seeking luxury accommodation at an affordable rate!
