Wharfside grill has been around for many a year and has welcome thousands of tourists. The interior of the restaurant is filled with all sorts of images and information about days gone by. The food looks delicious although we only had the fish and chips, which was quite average. Its definitely worth a visit as Hout Bay is definitely a place to visit.
Mariner’s Wharf is a wonderful attraction I constantly return to. I haven’t eaten at the restaurant but it has great sea-faring ambiance, like the fish market. The bistro downstairs is inexpensive but the fish and chips are pretty greasy. Pick up the fish-shaped cookies at the fish market instead. The marine antique store at the front is also a highlight. Stroll down to the end of the street to see the souvenir sellers and the women cleaning fish. Usually a local will ask if you want a photo with a seal, and it makes a great souvenir too.
An absolute must see. The decor is authentic marine memorabilia. There are rooms with a table each that can seat up to 10 peole in privacy for private events or meetings. The view is great. The ambiance is great. We only had deserts and coffee and it was great. The food dishes we saw looked scrumptious. I would recommend the place anytime.
The setting is perfect, a must see place. The decor inside looks like you are walking through a ship or shipping museum. Awesome atmosphere. That is the good part. Service is good. Sad part is the food is a bit pricey. I mean I can understand one needs to make money but my yard stick is the price of fish and chips and a t-bone steak.
19/08/21Decided to get fish & chips as takeaway... I had calamari and chips and my brother had hake and chips. All I can say is... chefs kiss! Wow, such a huge portion (I couldnt even finish!) and so beautifully done. Paired with the great view, and some seals to keep us company, it made for a great dinner!
We used to make special trips into Hout Bay just to get Mariners. Glad that years later, everything is just as amazing as before. A great fish and chips takeaway restaurant, especially on a lazy Sunday.
Me and my better half had fish 🐠 and a butter white sous over it. The fish tasted if it was cooked in water for to long so the tast was dull. If it wasnt for the lemon 🍋 and the white sous I would have not eaten the fish. On the other hand the service we receive is top class. The view is the best of all especially if you sit on the top, outside. Seeing the mountain and the beach right next to you.
Thank you Mariners Wharf Management and Staff for going above and beyond to accommodate us yesterday. We ended up having a lovely long lunch as intended and savoured your delish seafood platter for two quaffed down with a couple of bottles of crisp Chenin Blanc.Excellent service, delish seafood and beautiful views.Well definitely be back 😋
Its been the first time in many years Ive eaten here. This was mostly due to the it always being very busy with queues too long to consider. However due to the cycle tour and the rain we popped into get some food. Ended up with hake and chips. Two carbonated drinks and a combination of sole, calamari rings and strips and chips. The food wasnt bad at all. Way better than I expected actually. A few issues were the boxes. You had to break it open to get to the lower half of the food. The calamari rings were a bit mushy compared to the strips. Lastly the lady at the till forgot a calamari and chips combo that we wanted however it wasnt missed as the calamari wasnt that great so it was a blessing in disguise. Oh and for some reason they had no rolls again a blessing due to other reasons. Could be the argus tour caused bread delays however putting up a notice as you come in would have been nice. The ladies were friendly and rather reserved for a fish shop which was nice.
Wonderful experience on the wharf, great service and food, with curio shops and markets close by, make a day of it!
I would be sitting there from morning till night. The feeling was as if we were on an open ship contemplating nature. The mountains embraced the light blue sky and the seagulls danced jolly, perhaps smiling at us. Beautiful ships and boats colored the little harbour. The blue water turning into greenish. White sand beach contrasting with brown and greenish rocks. I indulged in a mouth watering fish of the day and my girlfriend into a succulent king prawns with veggies. To complement our meal we ordered a chilled sauvignon blanc. Overall, the food was tasty and well served. A diligent, helpful, friendly and highly professional staff. We spent a wonderful day.
A great restaurant offering so much. You can choose to sit in style in one of the many rooms upstairs. The views are naturally fantastic. You can see right across the bay and over to Chapmans peak. The restaurant has a very cosy vibe making it perfect for winter lazy days. You can also choose the casual option downstairs for your freshly fried fish and chips. The red bus and MyCiti bus stops right outside.
Oooh so yummy. What an incredible vibe, the decor is so interesting and one feels like you are on an old fashion ship, while you experience the most delicious seafood cuisine. The seagulls are opportunists always waiting for that right moment to steal your grub. I love it here. Stunning views of the beach front and parts of Chapmans Peak. A live and very busy spot. Extremely popular with locals and tourists. I love their menu, its fun. And interesting, and well designed. Food is good value for money, service is great and just a awesome place to visit.
The food is nice but the staff could be nicer to each other, specially in front of customers.
Sometimes too pricey for the quality of food... fries not good, and that is basics!
The views are excellent, staff greetings were great, the food was a bit of a let down for the prices you pay.We asked for water that never ended up coming to the tableThe waitress walked away with my wine glass after we tried calling her back for it.She then eventually brought it back realizing we had asked for 3 glasses originallyThey serve fish & chips with tomato sauce on your plate, it should be served originally with tartare sauce not offered afterwards.
Long time since I was last there, a bit pricey but well worth it. Food was fantastic and our waiter was brilliant
Really brilliant. Best fish and prawn combo and stunning views. Brilliant service from waiters and manager. Must eat at venue
Our waiter was terrible and not friendly. This place is overpriced. It is absolutely a tourist trap and not for locals.
The food was absolutely spectacular! Kudos to our waiter, Kudo M, who gave excellent service and went the extra mile. We wanted to keep the delicious garlic butter sauce from our mussels starter for the mains, and he took it to the kitchen so that they could reheat it.Will definitely visit again soon!
Amazing fish platters and lovely service.
By far the best Prawns and lemon butter in all of Cape Town.
The best seafood in the whole South Africa. We couldnt get enough. And do not hesitate to request Ricardo to wait on your table.
Best seafood!! Value for money!! Will go back to Wharfside anytime!!
I traveled from JNB just for the fresh seafood. Love it
Good food. Good service whats more to say.
Yum tasty fish n chips. U can taste the sea its so fresh. Leleti from Jozi
Was disappointed with the food. The chilli prawn soup was good but the so called seafood curry was seafood in a tomato sauce.
Superb fish restaurant right on the harbour at Hout Bay. Everything is wonderfully fresh and well cooked. Prawns and kingclip are especially good, or try the generous fish curry. The wine list is fine and complements the food well. The atmosphere is friendly and informal. All the staff wear silly sailor suit outfits but dont let that put you off. They are friendly and efficient; and the fish is to die for!
Never had mussels as amazing as this!!
Very busy. Great food. Great service.
The best all around .. brilliant Restaurant - CAn only recommend itMaria
Divine food and service as usual. Very strict sanitary measures for Covid 19.
Disappointed- waited 45 minutes, after telling the waiter we have a flight to catch, for our food and then the order was wrong. No one took responsibility and when we complained the manager said she must first hear what happened in the kitchen as if the client is wrong. Been visiting them for 4 years and this will be the last time I will ever come here again. Treating a client like this is unacceptable!!!
One of the best seafood platters youll ever have. The secret recipe for their garlic butter that they use make the side dish compete with the main elements. Its just that good. Highly recommended, as it was perfection on a plate. You wont regret it.
Great service, food fresh and delicious
Outstanding seafood (fresh, carefully prepared, tasty, large portions) and lovely atmosphere. Friendly and helpful waiters, even when the restaurant is at its busiest. This is a must visit for anyone who likes seafood.
Last time Ill be here , service was poor, bland food , I was led to a table after asking for a table for five but when my wife and family appeared that particular table in that section was taken it soon became clear that apartheid still exists (white only sitting),a lack of interest from the waiter, the waiter clearly wasnt happy with his tip even though there was minimal effort and we were obviously an inconvenience , the waiters are quite arrogant. Then I was asked where do I come from ! completely irrelevant .A white guy from the UK with a coloured wife and kids ,wow !!! I will never ever insult this business with my inconvenience again , iapologise for 45 minutes to support your business
Took my parents here as we have been on many occasions. Sadly this particular night wasnt on pat with others. Food and in particular my meal of Peri Peri Prawns was really not great on this evening.
Great view from the window seats. Very efficient waiters. Food maybe a bit pricey but the portions were fairly large but more importantly it was very tasty. Take the time to have a look at all the photos on the wall and learn about Hout Bays History
One of the best food places in Hout Bay. Recently visited in January 2020 I came all the way from Johannesburg and Mariners Warf never disappoint.superb fish, calamari you name it.
Horrendous. Fish not fresh. Overcooked and smothered in something very far from garlic butter. Don’t waste your time or money.
Food is amazing. Waiters are so friendly! Best view and prices are not bad at all!
Awesome salmon pasta and mussels in a creamy sauce w garlic & lemon. Waiters friendly & professional. Will definitely be back.
Greatest seafood. The Hout Bay are is definitely worth the visit and eating at Wharfside Grill was tge highlight. Very good food and great service
Same Old Magic. Macdonald is a Star!
Cute restaurant on the Hout Bay harbour. Staff is friendly and the food is good. Good place to dine after exploring the beautiful Hout Bay.
Fantastic family lunch. Exceptional service. Best hake and chips! Loved the American Sundae and Brandy Tart. Definitely recommend!
Friendly and accommodating.
Lovely seafood. Friendly service. Cool decor
Best seafood I ever had!! Great view and friendly service. Thanks!
Really good fish and calamari. If you are te looking for fish with a twist, I recommend the sweet and sour fish bites. Portion sizing is also very good for the price.
Lovely fish and chips. Staff friendly and efficient. Great experience.
We had the sushi and Fish& chips, both were excellent and service was perfect, wonderful experience!
The decor is amazing like you are dining inside a beautifully crafted ship with histrotical artifacts from across the world. The food is also a definite bonus with great customer service.
Delicious food (we had surf and turf and mussels mariniere), nice atmosphere and friendly service!
We had fish, chips and calamari. The food was okay, but not that tasty. The prices are a bit high compared to other restaurants with better food.
Food inclu Sushi is great. Food is served quite fast. Good service.
Lovely placeOn the magnificent coastal drive from Cape Town to Cape Point is Hout Bay and its world-famous Mariner’s Wharf, Africa’s and the Southern Hemisphere’s first harbourfront emporium.Conceptualised and built during the 1980s by Hout Bay’s very own Stanley Dorman, it has continued to grow under his and his family’s watchful eyes. Its restaurants, shops and markets exude a maritime ambience as is nowhere else to be found, and has become a unique destination where the famous and locals, jetsetters and tourists, rub shoulders with old salts and venerable fishing captains.
Excellent kingklip. Super views. Nice staff. A good experience. We recommend the place
Food is Devine, atmosphere just amazing with a stunning view!
We had lunch here on the deck which has a view over the beach. The food was disappointing, l the calimari salad looked nothing like the description and though it looked okay at first sight, the muscles i had were overwhelmed with oily sauce that drowned out any seafood flavour.Should have just got the fish and chips downstairs
No feedback after terrible service from a manager.
Great views of Hout Bay Harbour and Chapmans Peak, ,whilst enjoying their delicious seafood options...
Love the place
Good location overlooking the bay, good service and our fish was cooked perfectly
The best seafood anywhere in the world at an affordable price.
Love this place. Food never disappoints.
Anything fresher is still swimming. And the best creme brulee ` I have had in agss
Nice food and good views
Beautiful setting. Good food
A must when visiting Houtbaai
Group payment arrangements are slightly inconvenient, but the food and service is decent and the atmosphere warm and welcoming. A good place to make lasting memories.
Love it. Food great and stuff friendly and helpful. Parking great.
Beautiful views, nice food, quiet and safe.
