I literally had the best time at Karibu Restaurant. I had the 3 Course Meal and everything was absolutely to die for. The Cocktails were amazing and dont get me started with how friendly and welcoming the staff is. They really made my birthday extra special on Monday 02/08/21. I would highly recommend this Beautiful Restaurant. A special thank you to our waitress Thandi I really hope I got your name correctly but you were fantastic.
Went to celebrate my friends birthday here. The springbok carppaccio was delicious, soft and tender. My steak was cooked to a perfect medium and juicy on the inside. The desserts were also amazing. The place itself is breathtaking. Our waiter was super friendly and was happy to take pictures of us when we asked.
On Sunday past was my mother in laws 70th birthday.... I reserved table for 20 people, The waiter Clever was EXTREMELY HELPFUL & EXCELLENT Service but all of the family members chips was very very very salty and 1steak was bloody! Now the cherry on top is that the birthday WOMANS food which was the most expensive was not PLEASING TO HER BECAUSE THE LAMB CHOPS WAS FATTY, TOUGH AND NOT WELL DONE which was recommended to her by the way!
Last night was my first time exploring the cuisine at Karibu Restaurant at the V & A Waterfront. Ive developed a really good palette when it comes to food and the flavors of the Cape. For starters I had the Bobotie Springrolls and my friend had the Cajun fried Calamari. I commend the presentation of the meals, however I did not get the rich flavor bobotie has. The Cajun spice on the calamari could be seen by not tasted, so both was somewhat disappointing as it lacked the rich flavors in Cape cuisine. For Mains, I had the steak and fries, while my friend had the beef ribs and wedges. The presentation was good, and I unfortunately didnt enjoy the steak as it was a bit too chewy / though for a medium well done. The ribs, was absolutely delicious. The meat was tender and tasty. For dessert, I had the milk tart and my friend had the Malva Pudding. The texture of the milk was not favorable, as it lacked flavour and was somewhat rubbery. Again Cape Town milktarts has a vast rich taste to it. The malva pudding was deliciousOverall I guide the restaurants 3 x stars as theres room for improvement.
We had such an amazing time at Karibu. We were planning to walk from restaurant to restaurant until we found someone who does lamb shanks. Well I can tell you this, it was the first time for me to have the meal there, and i was definitely not disappointed at all. I had high expectations for the place, and you guys lived up to that expectation. Angela and team you were so awesome tonight. Thank you for a memorable evening!
I had the most amazing experience at Karibu last week. As a side note the food was so beautifully presented and it tasted even better than it looked. Delicious cocktails. The main attraction point and what we enjoyed was the 5 star service received from the employee named Clever. I would 100% recommend this restaurant just for the spectacular service and the food and drinks are complimentary to the amazing service. Thank you Clever! You are the main reason I would return.
This place is absolutely stunning inside 😍 Their food is tasty, service is excellent (willing and friendly waitors+management) and they made my birthday outing even more special by being so kind. I would recommend this establishment to any and everyone in a heartbeat. Well definitely call again 💕 1 recommendation though is to get more bathrooms. The 2 that are there arent enough and its displeasing to wait in queue to relieve oneself.
We have never been disappointed when visiting Karibu. The food is always tasty and they have great bread sticks.
Loved every minute. Great place
Good food, great service and overall impressions are all positive.Nailed medium well, perfectly. Highly recommend having a dessert to wrap up a visit.
We started our first family meal for 2021 on a high note. Lunch at Karibu was delicious (2 Course deal on Hyperli). The bread sticks are magical, the steak was divine (many other options to choose), the dessert was dreamy (we chose Khalua Truffles & Choc Brownie), the staff are friendly and attentive, the venue is beautiful (arty decor, we love the giant wire Baobab Tree) and the location is breathtaking (V&A Harbour). Definitely worth a visit. Use the special on Hyperli or Wikideals and get more bang for your buck. This was a family treat with a feel good factor. Please support local restaurants. The restaurant fully implemented COVID safety protocols and we had a lovely dining experience with shopping afterwards at the V&A Mall. No crowds and it was a blissful Sunday with my loved ones.
Went for lunch on Sunday at Karibu restaurant, for the first time. The food was delicious. Our waiter, Clever, was very knowledgeable, and made us feel at home, and well taken care of. I loved his input, suggestions, and humbleness. Thank you so much for the excellent service, and lovely experience 👏👍💖!
The service is excellent and the staff are all very friendly. We enjoyed our starters. The mains we quite bad though. We had the lamb ribs and the steak. Everything was sweet for some reason, and the steak was tough. Maybe were just not used to their unique style, but it did not feel like South African food and we really didnt enjoy it.It is a very expensive restaurant so the expectation is excellent food, but this did not deliver. City Grill has amazing food if youre looking for an alternative.
Based in waterfront. Authentic South Sfrican food made with style. A must for your foreign guests. A touch of Africa.
Absolutely loved this restaurant. Clever, our server, was beyond amazinf. Patient, funny, understanding. Great guy, great food!
We enjoyed a delicious lunch today and were served by the most lovely lady, Angela. A delightful experience all round.
Food, ambience and service very pleasant Indeed. I would return happily.
My boyfriend and I stood outside and 3 people who worked there looked at us and did not bother to assist. We decided to go to City Grill just next door where we had a 5 star meal and excellent service.
I bought a wiki deal for my friend, for the seafood platter for 2. She went yesterday with her partner and she was totally not impressed with the food, everything else was superb except for the food.I am looking at the pictures and I totally get why she was not impressed with the food, I am also not impressed she even compared it to oceans basket saying OB is waaaay better.I am soo disappointed as I had bought one for myself and had yet to redeem it :(This is a disappointment, as a platter for 2 :( :( :( or maybe it is that way because it was bought through wikideal, a special?
My husband and I went to go have a late lunch there today. We where happy surprised by the welcoming of staff and mangers even the owners. The food is too die for and you can taste the freshness. This is a place I will be frequently visiting soon. 😁❤️
The fish was to die for! Very good service too. If I could give more stars, I would.
We will be coming back for sure, best service. Friendly staff. Not to mention the the food compliments to the chef.
Amazing food and service. Bit pricey though
I under-rated this place, my first time trying this restaurant, the staff where very welcoming and followed procedures of covid, temperature monitoring and taking contact details to a T. They kept us informed of serving times and curfews as we arrived so that we had sufficient time to place orders and enjoy our meals. To all the meat lovers, the Springbok shank is amazing and the restaurant offers a wide range of other meals, wines and alcoholic beverages to suit anyones tastebuds. I look forward to another tasty and pleasant experience at Karibu 🥂
Karibu is an excellent South African dining experience. Ask for Fiston to be your server. He was excellent. The food choices are overwhelming because you want to try it all. We had a meal that included a lot of varieties of meat like ostrich which you cant order back home. There was a group singing at the restaurant that made the night even more special.
Great food, amazing service, and lovely atmosphere!!! I thoroughly enjoyed dining at Karibu!!!
Great service. Amazing food and vibe.
Food was incredible! Ordered the Ostrich Fillet with onion marmalade and chips, and my partner had the Karan Rump with pepper sauce and chips. Service was amazing, friendly, kind and attentive. Interior of the restaurant was beautiful, and sat in the booth which was comfortable and private for a romantic evening. Went on a Monday night and was not too busy. Highly recommend this restaurant! Thank you Karibu Restaursnt!
Best service...friendly staff..good venue...food!!!!excellent...and a very much cozy atmosphere...whe will deffinitly go back again...
Fine dining, awesome ambience. Trevor very friendly waiter. Kids loved it too.
An absolutely good time with a very friendly waiting staff, and delicious cuisine.
Food wasnt really so great... I didnt enjoy 😕
Outstanding. Great service, Great food.
I am utterly disappointed in my experience tonight, I took my family out for a meal, my steak was cold, I found shells in my salad and the manager has no managing skills, I also have a business where I render a service and wont recommend this restraunt at all, the awards on the wall is there for show they unfortunately dont deliver. The chef came to apologize and brought ice cream and truffles out to a diabetic which I find insulting, the manager did not have the decency to apologize or thank us, took our number as it makes any difference, Im utterly disappointed in this restaurant and I have been at many at the waterfront I think Kentucky or McDonalds would have given better service, I paid almost a r1000 for one of the worst experiences at a restaurant230 May 2021Just got a call from Jayson apologizing for the bad experience I had and wants to make up for it by giving myself and my family a Karibu experience, thank You Jayson for getting back to me
Friendly staff, service is good and didnt wait to long and steak medium rare. Im happy.
Beautiful atmosphere , friendly faces and greatService .To top it all off it the food was amazing . it was a great dinning experience
We had the pleasure of celebrating our anniversary at this beautiful place. Im in awe of the service we received. The food was absolutely delicious and the friendliest and most efficient staff I had come across in a long time. This will definitely be my go to venue for any event and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a beautiful venue with good food.Thank you Karibu for making our event special and memorable
The food is extremely pricey and its good but not all that great. However I only ordered the seafood platter for 2. I also really loved the setting.
Had a wonderful time. Clever our waiter was exellent
The staff was friendly and informative. The food was excellent and my whole family enjoyed their meals which does not always happen.
Always have a great time at this restaurant
Food, service and ambience excellent
Great service and yummy food
Service was bad today .Food not up to standard.Spinach terrible. No sauce with steak .Don’t think I will go back there again .😡
I like the taste of the food very much. The service attitude is very good
A great place to be, food was good especially the starter, service from Clever was the best ever. I will definitely visit this restaurant again when im around CTN. Keep up the good work Clever, customer service is key!
After a long hike at Lion’s Head, we wanted something that would satisfy our hunger while also giving us a hospitable South African experience. We were welcomed with open arms by the friendly staff at Karibu! Our fantastic waitress Chichi helped us with our multiple questions about the menu and ensured we had a wonderful experience. I selected the delectable Calamari with a side of Putu and Chakahaka which was exactly what I was looking for. My parents selected two different types of fish (Kingklip & Snoek) and were equally satisfied! My “foodie” sister, who is not easily impressed, was all smiles after her Honey Sesame Chicken! She and our mother completed the meal by selecting the Death by Chocolate and Stewed Peaches. As you can imagine, the deserts were spot on and was a wonderful way to complete our amazing day in Cape Town! We will definitely be visiting Chichi and the wonderful staff at Kariba before we depart!
I had ordered the giant meat skewer to be grilled medium but unfortunately it came well done and I am also not sure if it was really 600g as stated in the menu. Overall it was ok but after one week experiencing many delicious meals in Capetown it was a bit disappointing despite the fact that you pay the waterfront premium.
Fantastic food and fantastic service will definitely come again
Food was very good but overpriced. You pay more for the location---which is indeed great.
Awesome food! Great service! I got the fillet medium-rare with potato wedges - it was fantastic! Definitely recommend! I also had the creme brulee - it, too, was very good!
A friend and I decided to brave the Covid risk and enjoyed lunch at this special restaurant We sat outside to mitigate the risk and enjoy the vistas of table mountain and the harbour. The queen prawns were well above average and the mocktails delicious. Please go and try the place Really good.
As it was our last night n Cape Town, we decided to visit here as a treat. Staff very friendly and in good banter with customers. The food (for us) was excellent!Only down side was when a large tour party turned up (seemed a regular occurrence, probably cruise liners or middle class tour operators) who immediately take over the kitchen and majority of the already stretched waiting staff, which unfortunately lead to the other tables outside of the tour party being neglected (no fault of the staff ... just the obscene demands they were being subjected too) our order took over an hour to reach us, exscue was half the cooks had walked out the kitchen area (probably for fresh air and a breather)Our waiter (Trevor) was run ragged and so apologetic (along with his colleagues)Good restaurant, great food ... oh and a local african mens choir turned up (obviously for the tour group) and gave a great display if voice harmonies, just ruined by the pushy selling of their CD at your dining table when youre trying to continue your meal
PerfektThe food was delicious and specialists from the region
I cannot recommend the restaurant. We studied the reviews before visiting and were aware of the relative high number of bad reviews about the food. However, we wanted to eat African food and wanted to give the restaurant a chance. We were seated and they suggested the vers expensive meals and starters to us. Not once but many times, so we could not really have a relaxed look in the menu.I chose the springbok and it was good. Not the biggest portion and quite expensive, but good. Staff was also nice. Then it came to paying. As I wanted to pay with credit card another member of the staff, that was only standing around all the time and did not serve us until now, came to our table. I gave more than 7% gratuity on the already high prices, but the waiter told me that 10% would be the minimum. WTF? How rude is that?I did not pay more in the end but should have paid not gratuity at all after that.Did not happen to me once in the whole V&A.Summarized, this restaurant seems to be on the lookout for tourists to get their money. Other guests had to experience this by the food quality, we had to do so by rude and pushy behaviour.I suggest to go for other restaurants instead. There are plenty of them at the V&A Waterfront.
Unfriendly and appalling services from the Managers, Tia and Bradley!!!
Prices were so good, and the food was absolutely brilliant! Had a Venison Medallions with mushroom sauce and fries. Very good!
Food was great and what a view from the outside table. The service was great. Hope to be back soon
[update]I thought Id expand on this due to COVID.The tables were adequately spaced and before we were seated, they sent a team to santise the table & chairs and surrounds.Everybody who approached the tables wore masks and gave us the opportunity to don ours before approaching. The food was great and we had some wine recommendations from the waiter which proved to be spot on. Good starters and mains. They platter-fied our 5x starters and they arrived perfectly for sharing. As the evening wore on, they politely reminded us there was a curfew, but gave us adequate time to pace the meal and enjoy the company.Ive been there before, will be back again.
Loved the food and the staff is very friendly
Tjooo. Exquisite place and Im definitely coming back. Big ups to Freedom the Waiter, you the best and are the one bringing me back
Great dining place with exceptional dessert.
Excellent food with exceptional service.
Fantastic food and wonderful service....thank you
