Amazing 500 year old tree, Milkwood, lots of history if thats your thing

No information board unfortunately but some interesting history. Google it for pics and history. Startling to think that the beach used to be 2min walk away where railway lines are now. A new building has been built on the site of the old cottage so its easier to access the tree and you can get coffee in the cafe so its a slightly more enjoyable visit.

The text on the plaque says: The second British occupation of the Cape was formalised on this site where the capitulation Treaty was signed on 10th January 1806 by Batavian and British forces after the Battle of Blaauwberg.It is a 500 year old White Milkwood tree on Treaty Road in Woodstock, Cape Town. Peace was made under the tree on the 10 January 1806 after the Battle of Blaauwberg, and until 1834 slaves were sold under it and convicts also hanged.The City of Cape Town owns the property and the tree was declared a monument in 1967.This is worth a visit as part of a Cape town Historical Route tour.
