Considering this person was directly or indirectly responsible for the disenfranchisement, slavery and deaths of scores of Africans and Zimbabweans I have mixed feelings about this memorial. Definately worth reading about this mans past as its a fascinating story of greed oppression and capitalism. But if you just enjoy nature and sculpture and a good view then its well worth a visit.
Its a very very short hike from UCT upper campus. Once you are up the memorial, you can see part of Southern Suburbs and CBD, beautiful. I recommend going before the golden hour in the morning and just take in all the beauty and fresh air the early hours offer.
Beautiful landmark, you get breathtaking views of the city. Glorious place to enjoy with friends and family as you can take a hike further on the trail and get wonderful photos in nature.
A historic site, majestic monuments and statues. An easy hike. Something to do whenever visiting Cape Town or University of Cape Town.
Beautiful place, delicious chocochinos
