Have been going to see Dr Moodley for the past 5 years for skin cancer screening etc when I’m in Cape Town and he is brilliant at what he does. He is thorough and current with the latest advances in his field. My opinion is based on having visited a number of dermatologists over the years both in SA and abroad due to having fair skin, a family history of skin cancers and spending a lot of time surfing. A word to the wise: as can be seen from the 1 star reviews, he can very direct, which I appreciate, but if you are sensitive best remember that he is the expert and just let him do his job, the peace of mind after having been thoroughly checked by him is well worth it.

Hi i saw Dr Mehendran Moodley 1 month ago. I had a scalp problem which was troubling for 2 years. Tried all sorts of remedies. Was recommended by a friend to see Dr Moodley. Undoubtedly the best in his field! Ive been going to Dr Moodley for about 5 years, hes been treating my buffet of skin conditions. Im not a patient person, I want things fixed immediately and as such I love spent a bomb on pigmentation treatments at institutes with no results, if anything they made my skin worse. Dr Moodley has a method. Its a marathon not a sprint (which is painful if youre like me and want a quick fix😅) but hell its worth the wait. I have been visiting Dr Mahendran Moodley for approximately six years, after a recommendation from my dentist who noticed what looked like a basal cell carcinoma above my upper lip. Dr Moodley performed Mohs surgery to remove the BCC, which was very big as it had been growing for years. Dr Moodley amazingly left practically no scar at all. At all my annual follow-up visits, Dr Moodley has always been extremely efficient, but compassionate at the same time. Dr Moodley saved my life and I am forever grateful to him and his team for taking such excellent care of me. On my very first visit to Dr Moodley he identified a mole on my back which he was concerned about, he told me it had to be removed and that he would like to remove it that same morning, to avoid me having to return later and worry about the procedure. He really acted this swiftly (without alarming me until he had the biopsy results) because he knew how dangerous it would be to delay the removal. At first I was scared but he spent time explaining the possibilities that I would have to deal with and at every stage, I felt informed and empowered. He conducted the procedure to remove the mole in his rooms, with his assistant comforting me and holding my hand through out. A week later and the results from the biopsy showed that the mole he had removed had stage 1 melanoma. I was immediately referred to a plastic surgeon and within 10 days of visiting Dr Moodley, the area around the melanoma had also been removed and I received the good news that Dr Moodley had actually removed all of the cancer in his rooms. My lymphs were cancer free. Who knows what a couple days might have meant for me if he had not acted as swiftly. Since then I have visited Dr Moodley every 3 months and despite my experience which was obviously scary, I find so much comfort visiting him and knowing that he is the best and I am in good hands. His after care is meticulous, he is always up to date with my oncology reports and without needing to be, he takes an interest in my life and how I am generally dealing with life after melanoma. It took a long time for me to be comfortable being outside and Dr Moodley helped me get there ensuring that any outdoor exposure I have is safe. Forever grateful for this wonderful man.

I dont normally post reviews, but I was really surprised to see some of the negative reviews for Dr. Moodley. I went to see Dr Moodley after a random person walked up to me in the street and told me to get a mole on my arm checked out. Dr Moodley was incredibly informative and efficient. He moved around his schedule to fit me in the day after my first exam so we could remove the moles immediately. He got me my results and less than a week and came in before opening hours the next day so he could fit me in for a consult on my results. Dr Moodley AND his staff were incredibly comforting and supportive to me throughout the process. The nurse and reception staff made sure I understood everything and called to check-up on me after the procedure. My experience has been very positive with Dr Moodley and I would happily recommend him to others.

He has a more conservative approach due to her age and wont take unnecessary risk but is always very thorough. Through his care and the care of his lovely staff she has been able to sort out and control most of her chronic issues.

I booked to see Dr Moodley after reading glowing reviews. My experience, unfortunately, didn’t reflect this glowing praise at all. I found Dr Moodley to be incredibly condescending and brusque, and he spoke to me like a child who had no prior knowledge of her own body or condition. The 15 minute appointment time is ridiculous. I was made to feel like I was inconveniencing him if I asked any questions of my own, and left with a diagnosis and absolutely no guidance as to how to manage this. Having found a wonderful dermatologist since, my advice is - don’t waste R1000 on 15 minutes of being spoken down to! Not worth it

Very professional, efficient and warm receptionists however...Being aware of the doctors 15 minute consultation limit, I made sure to document my issues on my phone so as to not waste any time during the consult. I asked as many questions as I possibly could to understand my condition however my questions were met with resistant and to some extent belittling. The dermatologist is very skilled and knowledgeable, no doubt, but its almost as if, if you as a patient also come in with some knowledge and history of your own body (I am a Human Physiology graduate), he belittles you, frowns upon your questions and is rude. Also, when I rightly asked about the sanitation procedures they were undertaking in the office to help prevent COVID, I was told that I was being too anxious.Overall, for a 15-minute appointment that costs R1000 and is not fully covered by medical aid, it really isnt worth. Go find another dermatologist.

Dr. Moodley is an excellent, professional dermatologist. I like the style of this practice which is very strict on timing and explains charges clearly upfront. Some people have mentioned they find Dr Moodley abrupt but this isn’t true. He gets to the point, explains things clearly and thoroughly, and gets the job done without fuss. If you like a doctor who has all day for idle chit chat then choose someone else. But if you want the very best treatment then Dr Moodley is your best choice.

Both my father and I (and friends) have been patients of Dr. Moodley for a number of years, over which we have all been made to feel that our money is FAR more important than our conditions, or questions in consultations. R850 for just 15 minutes in his room, and if you go over that, best you know youll be paying more. If you want a repeat of a script? You will have to go back for ANOTHER consultation for that same cream HE prescribed, because he wants another R850 for his time. He wouldnt allow me to leave his rooms recently until removing two moles, and didnt ONCE mention the price or ask what Medical Aid plan Im on to ensure it was covered, here I am R11 000 later with NO help from him or his receptionists in trying to fight my denied claims; in fact, he demanded R540 purely to fill out a 1 page document in order for me to fight my medical aid, and took over a week to get it back to me. Hes rude in consultations and makes you feel like youre a peasant in his presence (he barked at me when I mentioned my one wound felt infected and I quote I said its fine!! - needless to say the wound was very infected and is STILL healing; I had the small procedure and stitches done almost a month ago). I see many reviews are much like mine here as well, sad that nothing has changed. I will not be going back to this doctor ever again.

Ive been a patient of Dr Moodley for almost 4 years now, and i have nothing but praise and respect for him. He is pedantic, caring and armors one with information that assists in maintaining a healthy skin from inside out. He does not offer quick solutions in but a healing process that addresses the root cause.He is that GOOD and meticulous and took my case very seriously. He was with me every step of the way, providing emotional support. Dr. Mahendran Moodley helped me recover from a really severe case of Steroid Rosacea. It was a process and I had to be patient in this case. I put all of my trust in him and followed his instruction carefully. He helped me recover almost completely after 6 months and I only saw him twice. Its only getting better. I am very happy. Its not often that a doctors visit becomes memorable. You may have a extended private chat or an amazing choice of magazines in the waiting room. Dr Mahendran Moodley is different and efficient in a way, that is truly impressive. I had 3 dermatologists in SA and Germany trying to find out my skin problem over lengthy visits and - at the end got wrong diagnoses.This guy needed a couple of minutes, challenged me to concentrate on his fast-spoken conclusions and gave me a short, prepared written instruction on how to proceed. Impressive! If we had more doctors like that, health care costs would be a fraction. Highly recommended!

Mahendran is a top-notch specialist. Hes friendly, he seems to be an expert in his field and hes confident in his approach, which must be why he gets results.

I appreciated Mahendran’s very detailed yet clear ‘in layman’s terms’ medical explanation, I had an excellent understanding of my diagnosis. I particularly valued the various options explained for my treatment. I liked how the options were summed up in order of priority with details on what to expect regarding the length of time, types of medication, and self-care needed to get the best sustainable results. I had seen another distinguished dermatologist in Cape Town but felt rushed and hopeless after an expensive consult, where the best advice given was to get a second opinion. Glad I did.

For a couple of years I have had treatments from Dr. Moodley for skin cancer mainly. A year ago I had a very serious cancer operation on my nose which even included a skin flap on both sides of it. I wondered whether my face would ever be normal again, but with care & advice from him one can hardly notice anything. I certainly have faith in this caring & highly qualified man.

Ive been going to Dr. Moodley for about 4 years for my annual skin checks. I find him efficient and thorough, and as long as you list any current issues with the receptionist on the forms provided, he addresses them. When he has recommended a follow up session, it is because the treatment takes time, and he wants to make sure it is dealt with. He caught a mole between my toes that two other dermatologists missed. Im grateful for that.

My wife and I have consulted regularly with Dr Moodley over the past five years on our annual visit to Cape Town and cannot recommend him highly enough. He is exceedingly professional and his treatments have all been successful. Several friends have likewise been to him for consultations and have declared themselves very satisfied.

Dr Moodley has been absolutely brilliant. I have been seeing him for more than 18 months and first went as I had a suspected melanoma. He was very quick to act and extremely thorough. What I like about Dr Moodley is his time taken, advice given and his care taken. He also did an excellent job of making me feel calm when diagnosed with two cases of melanoma.

Ive been under the care of Dr Moodley for almost 3 years and I always appreciated his professionalism and thorough approach to his discipline. My diagnosis was a bit more challenging to ascertain due to it not being as clear cut and a few different conditions seemed to be representing itself so as much as it was frustrating to me, Dr Moodley kept assuring me that as we work together we would resolve this. So this was really an academic approach whereby he would provide a treatment regime and I would regularly provide feedback via email and pictures on my progress and he would always promptly respond with his feedback with either adjustments to my treatment plan or to come in to see him when necessary (I was always accommodated on short notice). He consulted his peers and professors for second opinions regarding my condition and always sent me home with information to read up on, so I always felt well informed and cared for. This especially comforted me during a time where I felt vulnerable and uncomfortable with not knowing the exact prognosis.I am now in a position where I am well and in control of my condition thanks to Dr Moodley and deeply grateful to him for his patience, exceptional care and for walking this journey with me.I highly recommend Dr Moodley!

Dr Moodley really is an excellent dermatologist - he has extensive experience and knowledge about his field and always takes great pains to explain his diagnosis in a way that you as a patient can understand. I dont usually write reviews but I had to do one for this great doctor. My aunt was having a really stubborn melisma. She has spent more than $3,000 to treat it but she had no luck with the skin treatments that she had received. In a short 15 minutes consultation Dr Moodley was able to explain everything and gave her the most beneficial treatment she has ever got. I would highly recommend this doctor because he truly seems like he knows what he is doing! Cheers.

I have always had a great experience at Dr. Moodleys office. The consultations are quick and effective, and screenings comprehensive. A general skin screening for any problems (skin cancer screen) includes a full body review, which is very reassuring. Also, I have always found that he answers ongoing questions well and in a helpful manner.

A consultation with Dr Moodley is typically a long one way conversation. He simply doesnt listen to you and tries his best to speak over you. He doesnt like it when you ask questions. His strategy is to make a diagnosis as quickly as possible and then blurts out information in a rushed manner so that you dont have a chance to ask any questions.Any doctor-patient relationship is at best patriarchal. He is certainly possesses sufficient medical knowledge but misses the fact his patients are human beings which is evident in his arrogant behaviour.He has 0% people skills.The last straw for me was when he charged me an extra R150 for a repeat script on top of R750 for a consultation!Wouldnt recommend him to anyone.

Dr Moodley was fast, efficient and professional. I see a lot of negative reviews saying he is too quick, but the fact is he is one of the few Dermatologists in Cape Town and needs to see a lot of patients. Maybe he is not warmest person, but I think he is just a little introverted and maybe just tired of people wasting their own time and his with their theories. I have no doubt in my mind I received the best possible care after my consultation with him.
