We visited Backs on a Sunday morning for a quick bite to eat. I love the layout of this place, as it is a double story with a grand flight of stairs leading to the top. The interior also fits perfectly with the old building. The food was very good; we had burgers with chips which were delicious. The service was ok.

The food here is absolutely amazing and the service is great!I had the best pizza I have ever had here. Their coffee is amazing and the staff are on top of everything. I was very impressed and would definitely go there again.Everyone enjoyed their food and there wasnt one issue. Would recommend to everyone I do and dont know.

I’m so impressed with this place. It’s beautiful inside and the food and service is great! Our order was taken and given to us correctly. The waitress checked up on us and so did the manager. They are so friendly and hospitable.The food was divine.I will definitely go back.

Three letters,, WOW! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and great spot for coffee and breakfast. Had the best French toast and cuppacino. Portions are generous and great value for money. Definitely recommend and I will be back to try the lunch options and wine.

Last week, I invited my brother to Happy Hour at Backs and we shared a Buy-one-get-one free. As we arrived, 2 waiters informed us about their special, which was posted on the board outside the shop. But no one shared the Tcs and Cs.When the bill arrived, we noticed that both beers were rung up on the bill at full price. We told our waiter, Aretha, and she said that there was a no sharing rule for the special and called the manager over.I am a regular at the restaurant and have always had great service bringing friends there and purchasing from the deli at least once a week for the past year and a half. But this was the first time I was informed about this no sharing policy and have shared that special many times before.Thereafter, the Operations Manager, Val, came to our table informing us that he does not want to remove the extra beer from the bill and that there has always been a no-sharing policy. I told him that we were not informed about this, that neither of us wanted an extra beer, or budgeted to pay for an extra beer.In response to this, Val went on a rant about how tough lockdown has been for him and how he received pay-cuts and could not afford taking chances like this and remove the beer from the bill. I told him that I did not want to fight about this, that I felt cheated and uninformed with the special and that he was being rude. He continued to say that he was the Operations Manager of the whole group and that there was no-one above him to lay any complaints to.This made the whole engagement sour and it felt like I, as the customer, was being guilt tripped for something out of my control. Lockdown is tough, and I am very sympathetic to everyone affected. But I have always tried supporting the restaurant and felt cheated and disrespected by Val’s service. I still have a sour taste in my mouth from this experience and will support the surrounding restaurants in the future.

Awesome breakfast and hot beverages the hot Dark chocolate and khalahari salt is a must have and our water William was absolutely fantastic

The lunch was excellent. We had burger and chips and a chicken and camembert salad. Both delicious and expertly prepared. There is a good menu selection including vegetarian options. Inside the restaurant one can find a wine tasting corner, pastry and bread counter as well as a cheese section.

Service was slow in acknowledging us to take orders although friendly once the waiter finally decided to serve us.

Best burger of my life. The pattie was done to perfection and the chips were so crisp and tasty. I loved the camembert and bacon! Wow. And our waiter was so friendly. An added bonus is that they are on the Entertainer App which makes the 2 for 1 special an absolute winner!

One of the best beef burgers Ive ever had.

We came for a Valentines Day Lunch and WOW the food and service did not disappoint! We were served by a friendly and well spoken Judie.We had the fish and chips which I can say is up there with some of the best fish and chips in Stellies! The bacon and brie burger also goes down extremely well with a CBC on tap!Highly recommend!

Went here with mother for a early lunch - I had a calamari and chorizo salad and mos a bacon and brie burger. Worth writing home to. Nestled in the heart of the town, it is close to other attractions, museums, malls. Reasonably priced. Need to mote here that breakfast ends at 11:15.

In hindsight, the coffee offering could change to compliment the rest of the offering. The coffee was a bit underwhelming, as far as coffee goes nowadays.

The staff is super friendly. They had other items on sale for after your meal you can browse around for anything else you would like to buy. The biltong I bought were top notch definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Great venue in the cultural center, but today wasnt great. Service seemed a bit unorganised and too rushed, kitchen kept banging and dropping things (open kitchen which makes big noise when dropping things) and water gutter pipe leaked onto our table in atrium area (at back) - we eventually just moved the table up.Personally I love that area and will be back, hopefully to a better experience than this.

We decided to have a lunch in Stellenbosch ,so we tried this restaraunt and we were overly impressed,I had fried fish and chips and my husband had a basil pesto pasta.Excellent waitresses, Excellent chef and Great young manager , Tian.This is also a bakery and a deli and a restaurant.I will definitely go there again and again...Highly recommended.

Friendly and great snack food. Didnt have the cake but seems to be popular as others around were having.

Food is great but be careful that you might tip twice. They include the tip already as labelled food in the bill. And they still have the gratuity part. The bill didnt make sense until we called the waiter to explain what it was. I also found it rather dodgy that they discounted two items (the main and the side-since I was using the entertainer app) but still charged the side again and later explained that it isnt included in the discount. Question is: why discount it in the first place?

As with the one in PAARL, this visit did not disappoint. Great venue, great food as well as great service. See you again, soon!

First time visited Backs, I liked the variety of food,snack and beverage options they offered. The staff was vibey and the manager really went out of his way to ensure everyone was happy...When the food arrived, it didnt disappoint aswell👌

Staff solidly ignored us. We had to go looking for them to ask for menus and had to ask them to come take our order. Every time we tried to catch their attention they ignored us. Terrible service.

Very impressed with the quality of the food

Whilst travelling in the area we stopped in Stellenbosch, found the Old Bank on the corner - now Backs Restaurant. It looked absolutely wonderful and we were drawn through the front door - mid morning on Sunday 5th January - it was so busy! We were attended to by lovely staff including Shannon who came across and spoke with us when she knew we were from the UK! Absolutely delightful lady! We had 2 enormous pieces of cake and lovely coffee , sitting in the wonderful downstairs area next to stairs. It was delicious and really helped our wine tasting later in the day! It really is a lovely place and I am sure will be a wonderful success. This is the place to visit! Best wishes

Absolutely lovely. Weve had a lunch and a tasting here and both times it was amazing. The staff were exceptionally friendly, the food was absolutely to die for, and Fairview nails it with their wine and cheeses. I cant wait to go back

Unfortunately not a good experience. We didnt order food as the drinks where undrinkable. They even got the vanilla milkshake wrong! It tasted like they dumped half of the vanilla bottle in the milkshake. The pineapple smoothie also did not taste good. Something went wrong here! Hopefully it was because of Boxing day and not having their regular staff on duty... will try again after the holidays...

Food was okay but not great and the service was abysmal. Lost items that just never showed up and finally had to ask for them to be removed from bill since we were done eating. Almost impossible to get a drink after the initial order. Lots of good restaurants in Stellenbosch so wouldnt waste my time on this one again.

Beetroot Crust is one of the best vegetarian pizzas we have ever had, its like a piece of art. Great service as well plus clean toilets, which is quite important for me personally.

Lovely lunch in this newish establishment which has pavement, ground floor, first floor and back room seating, So an atmosphere for all. We had a gentile selection of hors doeuvres then a mixture of burgers (pink in middle) & sweet potato jacket roasted. Very well prepared. Accompanied by a great Fairview Sauvignon Blanc.
