Heard this is the best place in Cape Town for cocktails. Presentation of the cocktails are beautiful and unique, which allowed me to give 2 stars. Service is not really the best as the place is always fully booked and waiters are very busy. The cocktails are a bit expensive too and they do not taste the best to be honest, not really in a students budget. FYI you need a reservation to go to this place.

Such a great spot for drinks and socialize me and my friends had a blast with a wide array of drinks too choose from. The waitress FEN was amazing she was engaging, knowledgeable and always on hand if we needed anything top marks for her. The food was just as good with the pork belly Boa buns the favourite one amongst us, the rest didnt disappoint but will go back for those Buns. So do pop in sit down have a cocktail and enjoy the ambiance of the cause and effect....... Effect.

We ate here today for the first time as we celebrated my birthday. Oh my goodness, the tasty platter for two simply took my breathe away. As a birthday gift they offered a special drink to me, my own non-alcoholic, but apparently the original one contains alcohol...its called a fairytale...very tasty. Friendly staff, a nice homely, yet vibrant atmosphere...very impressed for a first visit and will make it my business to go there again in the not too distant future, Lordwilling...loved it, loved, loved it. We thoroughly enjoyed the Schweppes Lab at Cause and Effect!Our barman, Franco, was entertaining, passionate about his job and very knowledgeable about all the botanicals that he uses in the cocktails. The side dishes that we received with our drinks were also very tasty especially the mussels, which was absolutely delicious!

What a nice atmosphere, the service is amazing, you can tell they love what they do! For every drink they made, the bartender gave us a class. He turned the cocktails world accessible and even more interesting.Cons: the waitress and bartenders weren’t using the mask appropriately. …..The “CAUSE” of our visit here was the HYPERLI voucher we purchased for a Gourmet Breakfast and the “EFFECT” was a fabulous-experience of a Spring morning escapade adding to our many memories of dining out. This is such a snazz-ii tight spot with an electric atmosphere of its own. Offering seating outside also. The narrow building with the vibrant-bronze lighting giving the venue a cool ambience and also enhancing and complimenting the old-school bronze air-ducting running along the green roofing. . The one side of the venue houses the Pub-Counter taking up almost three-quarters of the walls length and then there is the “Bartenders Lab” where the bartender concocts his own potions of brews to tantalise the taste-buds of the his patrons calling them “Cocktails”. This is something for our next planned visit. With ever breakfast ordered they also offer a “Bottomless” option of “Mimosas” and it awesome to notice the passion of the waiters/waitress because they understood the true meaning of bottomless as our waitress Anisha did she just kept the mimosas coming at us like an avalanche. Anisha was on point and cared for us very professional-lii. The Clipboard-Menu has about seven compartments offering meals and drinks all at affordable prices. We came for breakfast and the brunch menu offered about seven choices, the likes of Smashed Avo on toast, Smoked-Salmon with Horse-Radish on an English-muffin and the more complete full breakfast. Our order was for the 1. Bellville Breakfast: - 2 x pooched eggs, wor’s, mushrooms, cherie-tomatoes, crisp-ii bacon and 2 x slices of toast. 2. Eggs Benedict: - 2 x pooched eggs, hollandaise-sauce, crisp-ii bacon on an English muffin. The portions served were very scrumptious and very filling. Ingredients used was fresh and delicious. We absolute-lii had an enjoyable morning here. They do have guest Wi-Fi you have to just ask for the password. The toilets are many and the facilities are clean and user-friend-lii. There is a curio-shop where you can purchase Cause & Effect memorabilia like caps, drink-shakers and the stuff one can use in the home-pub. We will sure-lii come back here and we high-lii recommend this establishment…….NB! Their Covid-19 Protocols are in place: - No Mask - No Entry! Temperature Check! Hand Sanitising hand-spray!….Oh! They also have on every second Tuesday “COCKTAIL CULTURE CLUB” entry free from 18:00. On Wednesday starting at 18:00 to 22:00 “APERITIVO DJ SESSIONS” Buy one get one free with any canapé ordered.

So Disappointing. Made a booking for the Gourmet food and Cocktail pairing lab experience and it really was not worth it.Firstly, dont bother making a booking because apparently arriving on time is a problem for them, if you book for 7pm and arrive at that time or even early, unfortunately youre on time and have to wait until they are ready for you. In the meantime, you can sit at the bar where no one bothers to even offer you a menu.Secondly, youre told to patiently wait a few minutes despite making a booking, and by a few minutes I mean 20 minutes after which you must get up and go find someone who can explain why youve received no service.Eventually (after 30 minutes) you will be seated at the lab which still has the remains of the previous customers, and you will sit there and wait some more.If at this point you are still at the restaurant, they will try explain what the experience is about and if you can hear them over the blasting music in the background, you will find out they it is actually an interesting concept and if done properly would be a great experience.The food is gourmet so your main course taco is the size of your big toe and you only get one (pro tip: dont come hungry).No one bothers to explain or guide you on what you can actually use or add to your cocktails to tailor it to your liking (cant blame them, must be horrible to try explain something while theres music blasting in the background).Overall I think the place has potential and perhaps we just went on a bad day and got unlucky. Wont be going back though.

It was very good for us. Happened upon Cause and Effect by chance. Original cocktail mixes served with a South African twist and a ritual. Our waiter, CJ, presented the cocktails with an uncanny and original performance that demands witness in its own right. The grilled fish with fresh salad combo was good too.

On holiday from Durban and wow what an experience. Cocktails are so unique and delicious. Our waitress gave such awesome service. However, disappointed by all the shouting and screaming coming from the staff in the office. They were so loud and swearing at each other... So unprofessional😔

I mistakenly made a reservation at Cause Effect as part of the wikideal voucher we had purchased. We ended up staying for drinks as we had to make a reservation elsewhere for the food section of our deal but after we left Cause Effect, I realised that mistaken reservation wasnt a mistake at all 😊. As someone who regularly tries cocktails at any restaurant, pub or establishment I go to, Cause Effect has the best cocktails BY FAR. The atmosphere of the restaurant is so relaxing, the staff is incredible and the cocktails are crafted with such thought and innovation. And as the cherry on top of an already perfected cake, it tastes absolutely amazing too 👌🏼 Ive already recommended the restaurant to friends and family and I definitely look forward to returning in the next couple of weeks.

Very nice gastronomy bar!!!! Presentation of the drinks was superb! My friends and I were not hungry soooo we just had sides of fries!!! They also tasted good. Their drinks come presented differently than just In a regular glass. They use a lot of liquid nitrogen which adds a super nice touch to their drink presentations. Also their servers are nice as well!!! Definitely a place worth trying if you come around V&A!!!

Definitely a unique experience worth discovering whilst in the V&A Waterfront.The menu is quite overwhelming in a good way, so more than one visit will be needed to explore this place to the fullest.They also serve food, from breakfast to lunch too.Walk-ins are welcome, with indoor and outdoor seating available!

Horrid service! upon arriving the manager i assume didnt know that we had a reservation, the waitress who was on the phone with me was impatient and didnt listen to details correctly hence putting a incorrect name down. My friends and i were rushed the entire time, we got the wrong drinks and we got told its because the bar tender didnt want to make the one we wanted, the waitress then proceeded to be aggresive, roll her eyes and tell us that they didnt have olives or the drinks we wanted, she then rudely took our drinks away before we could decide what we wanted, that same waitress also cancelled my friends order and he had waited for 45 min to get it until he asked her where it was and she said she just cancelled it because she felt like it. the atmosphere is chaotic and so many glasses were dropped, all of the bartenders werent wearing masks and the waitresses were taking shots with customers and dancing around instead of doing their jobs and taking the correct orders down. all the staff should honestly be fired, because there was not one professional person. all were cheeky and rude to my friends and i. the staff also dont respect clients as the restaurants just add the tip to the bill even if youve gotten horrid service. the drinks and food are overrated

It pains me to leave such a poor rating but sometimes honesty is the best policy. We visited last Monday Womens Day and were greeted enthusiastically by the manager and went through a very thorough Covid screening and we sat at the bar. There were no more than 3 tables in use. After we checked in thats where the service ended. The one barman on duty was busy at the far end of the bar. A smoking beaded rocket passes us by but for the rest of the time he was fussing with cocktails. And fuss he did. I get that your cocktails are elaborate but when this is to the detriment of service there is a problem. We sat at the bar for 20 minutes without any service. We werent alone in our frustration. A waitress came to bar and pleaded I only need a beer please. The manager wasnt to be found and didnt seem concerned we were left unattended. After 20 mins we got up and left. The barman was still fussing over the cocktails. So the star if for your excellent Covid protocols. Sadly nothing else to rate

I’ve been wanting to try this place out for a while as they seemed to have rather cool drinks. I must say, the drinks are really tasty and a lot of thought has been put into the drinks. The only complaint I had is you can see that they are understaffed. Considering it was a busy Friday night and there were only 2 or maybe 3 waitresses around resulted in us waiting around 25-30 minutes for each round of drinks.

Wonderful earthy tones, hanging plants, organic look and feel. Warm lighting, friendly staff, tasty food. We had the seafood platter for two- highly recommended. I would just suggest chef clean the prawns properly-if you leave the waste excrete string in, it could make people sick. Also if it could be served with slices of lemon for the fish and calamari it would be perfect 👌

Although we enjoyed our cocktails, we waited a tremendous long time for them, snd only each received our drink one after the other. Not to mention, shortly after arriving, we had to listen to theamager go absolutely bonkers off at one of the staff members in their office. They did not seem to care that the door was open for all clientele to hear or that every 2nd word was a swearword or some form of belittlement. It made us feel incredibly awkward and uncomfortable and really put a sour taste in our mouths for our 1st ever experience here all the way from Durban. Probably would not go back.

Great experience! Interesting cocktails, in particular the herb and spice infused concoctions. Unfortunately on our last visit we found ourselves questioning the alcohol content of the cocktails. Although very difficult to prove we left with the distinct impression that the alcohol was watered down. Interestingly enough we experienced the very same phenomenon at a nearby restaurant later that same evening. Sign of the times?

Just because its different doesnt mean its good.The cocktails are definitely interesting and the staff friendly, but as far as taste goes - they are definitely lacking (unless you go for the traditional cocktails, but then whats the point in going to a cocktail kitchen?). The cocktails are quite expensive as well.If you are still interested in going, I would recommend trying the one that comes in a unicorn cup - it was the best tasting cocktail out of the 5 different cocktails my friends and I tried. Overall we had a fun time and an interesting experience, but next time Im looking for some cocktails, Ill look somewhere else.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the cocktails were of course the highlight of the meal. Lots of weird and wonderful designs. We had the seafood platter which was a bit hit and miss. The fish was a bit dry and the prawns werent that great but the mussels were delicious and the calamari and octopus were excellent.

Arrived at 10:30 and waited 45 minutes for our food to be told after 30 minutes they dont have chicken mayo (something simple) then changed our order tp be told 20 minutes later, that they dont have white bread for our breakfast (after the manager said it would be right out). Staff continuesly walked away mid conversation and drinks took over 25 minutes to arrive at the table after we had ordered from our waitress every 5 minutes as she came to clear the table. This being said there were only three tables in the restaurant with one waitress. Overall, food was good. Disappointed with the overall communication and service off the staff and the effectiveness of the kitchen. Will not be recommending to anyone. Throughly Disappointed and appalled at our overall experience.

Cape Towns best barman opened Cause Effect as an experience-driven cocktail bar (the food is really secondary) that pulls out all the stops to surprise and delight a notoriously fickle Cape Town audience. Think dry ice, seaweed, tinctures, and cocktails in Japanese soup bowls or pink elephants or wire baobab trees... The platters are simple but tasty. And dont be shy to go simple... they do a damn fine margarita too.

Cute restaurant to meet either after work or after morning walk or run. Pricing was reasonable and food was more than enough. What an experience!!Started off our Friday night with the cocktail and food pairing lab experience which I would recommend to anyone and EVERYONE.We were immediately welcomed with smiles by all the staff and within .2 seconds had a drink in hand.Ended off our evening with a few (or more than a few) drinks at the bar.The staff are excellent, with so much knowledge and good vibes to share.They will definitely take you on a cocktail journey if given the creative freedom to do so.Had such a blast that we had to return the next morning for Mimosas 😂10/10 please do go experience the greatness that is Cause Effect!Special shoutout to Michael for making our stay a spectacular one. 💫

I requested a special set menu from the owner and we were treated to an absolute treat! We were welcomed with the House vermouth, a Spanish style light vermouth, sparkling water, prosecco with lemon pelargonium mist. Served with a delicious amuse bouche of Watermelon with yuzu, fennel, cream cheese, lemon smoke.Each one of us had a different cocktail before the mains came and they each had their own hiddens surprises. Mine, u2028u2028The Membrane, is a cocktail hidden under a green membrane that you gently scrape to get through to the hidden cocktail below. This cocktail encourages bravery and patience. My fellow diners enjoyed the u2028Richie the rainbow sparkle unicorn and u2028Apricot & truffle Julepu2028u2028.To go with the cocktail I went with the Beef fillet, with carrot, cumin, pomme purée. My friends opted for the Prawns with sweet corn, risotto and coconut.The cocktails were awesome and the food was delicious! Great vibe for a Thursday night and I will definitely go back again.
