Excellent customer service. I rented a car from auto rent for 5 months during my time in Cape Town. They were the cheapest car rental by far and provided me with a clean, reliable car that was perfect for getting me round the city and away for weekends. All communication was answered promptly and the team were friendly and polite. Highly recommended.

I hired a car and was extremely happy with every aspect of the service I received, from booking, receiving, sorting out my bump to returning the vehicle. No hassle, no waste of time - seamless.The car was great and in good working order for a good rate - clearly effort is made with regards the state of the vehicles.I bumped the car and they were only a call away to assist and it was all dealt with in a pleasant and efficient manner, which I appreciate very much.I would recommend this company in a flash! A stunning experience. For a small concern in a local area in Cape Town, I found both the service received and vehicle in top notch standing. Everything was explained professionally with the added personal touch. The vehicle was in immaculate condition and I will always support the little guy’ Thank you ARSA. Unfortunately I had really bad experiences with this AutoRent.It may be cheap to rent but for a high price when something goes wrong.It starts getting dodgy as you have only contact per mail but no physical adress is given, continous to get worse when they do not pick up the phone and eventually even decline your calls and and the end are accused of „damaging the car beyond repair“ while the mechanic ( all the way in Hout Bay) is not available.Dont be too sure you will ever see your deposit again. They will definitely find a reason to keep it.

Worst service possible. The whole company is a fraud. I know of 3 people who didnt get a refund of their deposit even so the returned the car in perfect condition. The cars are all quite old and badly services and break down a lot and the owner tries to charge you for his bad services cars and there is no replacement car for those days thats your car in the the garage.Please dont rent from this place. You can never get hold of the owner or anyone on the phone! Doesnt reply to emails and is very rude and aggressive.

In a world where good service seems to be run by bots and instant chats, Autorent has certainly made personal service a priority. Every email I sent was answered within the day with every query covered.The collection of the car was seamless and the gentleman who did the handover was efficient, knowledgable and extremely helpful.David put a tyre filler into the boot at no extra charge because he knew I would be traveling a long distance on my own.The car is immaculate. Due to the low rate I did have some reservations about what state the car could be in but I was pleasantly surprised.Thank you to all at Autorent for making this car hire an easy and reliable experience.

For my studies i went to capetown for 5 months, hired a car from Autorent for 4 months. Note, i am from Europe so Im comparing this to European standards.1. all contact was via email. ive never seen, meet or spoke to the owner (David Bengfield), which was not efficient.2. Autorent does not have a store or place where its located. I was therefore unable to go by them since all i had and have is email. The pickup adres is some livingcomplex in houtbay, where you speak with the security guard who does the handover.3. The car i wanted to hire (chico) was suddenly unavailable, so i had a free upgrade for 2 days. If i wanted to get the chico again i had to come by for that in the next week, which aint a proper service in my opinion.4. The car i hired was a indica tata. The car was driveable, not sure if it was road worthy, but there were some issues. The right mirror was attached by cabletire. I mailed autorent about this but he was unwilling to fix this5. My back window was smashed in over night. I tried to contact autorent what to do, they replied after 2 days with a simple message Go to any glass replacement company and have it replaced. They were not helpfull, nor polite in this matter. They referred me to my contract, which i thoroughly read, but nowhere stated what they said. (Eventually i paid it myself).6. I was involved in a minor accident, which wasnt my fault. The other party, which was very polite and helpful, admitted fault and was willing to pay the costs. However, i was unable to fix this because im not the owner of the car. Therefore, mr Bengfield had to contact the insurance company to get it fixed. Mr Bengfield was unwilling to do this and told me It is not for us but for you to finalise any contribution you may receive from the other party in your accident. It is irrelevant in whose name a car is insured, it is all the Drivers’ responsibility. I could not finalise this myself because im not the owner. The car insurance company (from the other party ofc) was stunned by this reply, thankfully they were very helpfull and with a lot of hassle i was able to pay it myself and get it refunded on my own account. It took me around 3 months to get it all arranged (even still when i was back in Holland).In this same email, autorent became quite unfriendly and actually very assaulting. (SEE ATTACHMENT)I quote We strongly recommend that you reinstate your arrangements to have your car repaired. It is for less than 100 euros that you have spent so much time on attempting to shift responsibility.It is our twenty year experience that only once you return to the high Euro prices in Europe, that you will appreciate how very cheaply Mr Riedwaan has offered to repair your accident damage, and in cheap SA Rands – on a vehicle that has been discounted even further than the standard deeply discounted student rates – again in cheap SA Rands.Well, as they say on their website Try us, youll love the personal touch!. If this is their personal touch, i gotta admit, it surprising! But not in the positive way.7. When i wanted to drop my car of, Mr Bengfield told me to drop it as Mr Riedwaans store, somewhere on the border of Manenberg (which is a gang-ruled township in Cape Town). Again, autorent was only contactable by email and not willing to be reasonable. Eventually i dropped it off in Houtbay, where i picked it up.8. Autorent charged me 5 months, in contradiction to our contract. They never refunded the wrongly charged month.9 Autorent never refunded my deposit of R5000,-.I can go on and on about this but to conclude.I tried to same a few bucks by going for autorent, which i shouldnt have done. I advise EVERYONE to go for a known autodealer like Rentacheapie, herz, avis or something because 1 thing is certain, autorent aint the place for you if you want a trustworthy, helpful and friendly rental company.Ive had contact with others who rated autorent aswell and the told me a similar story, PLEASE dont make the same mistake I did!Kind regards,Tim

BEWARE! Vehicle not as advertised and unroadworthy. Wing mirror tied together with cable ties came loose whilst driving (very unsafe!), radio not working and back boot mechanism broken. Unprepared to mend. DO NOT POVIDE YOUR BANK DETAILS! Money extracted from account without notice, invoice or rental cost breakdown. Deposit extracted, unsure whether it will be reimbursed. You will meet no representative and have no direct phone number for David, therefore no process of questioning the standard contract. Inflexible contractual obligation if your circumstance changes. Agreed monthly payment with a R150 additional contract fee, but no revised conctract received or revised contract provided for upgraded vehicle class. Unprofessional and bordering on SCAM practices with all my concerns ignored. AVOID!
