It’s not easy to find a good bike shop – when you do however find one, stick with them.Crown Cycles is owned and run by cyclists for cyclists. It can be quite intimidating to walk into a bike shop, especially if you are just starting to ride – at Crown your circumstances are taken into account, your budget assessed and an appropriate solution is provided.I have been to other bike shops when they ran offers on certain item that I needed but when it comes down to service then Crown Cycles has always stood head and shoulders above the rest. I am not saying that they always get it right but they genuinely care about the you, the client.I have on more than one occasion needed an urgent repair and without fail I received assistance almost immediately, often doing the repair while I waited. Try not to however walk in and expect a repair days before a big cycling event – that is just being unreasonable.Crown Cycles was founded in 1948 and is one of the oldest bike shops in Cape Town. They sell a variety of both top end and more affordable road, gravel and mountain bikes in all sizes. There is also a range for those talented little cyclists who are just out of there dippers.They also stock a large range of bike parts, wheels, apparel and a range of nutritional products.There bike service is also affordable enough to warrant coming in regularly – most of us, including myself, try to put this off for as long as possible, usually resulting in expensive and unnecessary repairs.They are open Mon – Friday 8:00 till 17:30Saturdays 8:00 till 13:30

We had full services for 2 mountain bikes. I arranged the drop off via email. We did not need to wait, they were very professional and the bikes were ready by the same day (despite of the fact that we went there right after the cycle tour and they must have had a lot to service). We went for a ride on the next morning and both bikes work as a charm. Very good value for money.

As an all-round bicycle store, Crown Cycles is properly excellent! They stock a decent range of road and mountain bikes, and all the required accessories. I have been to almost every bicycle shop in Cape Town and can truely say that this is one of the top ones, especially in terms of service - I will always return and recommend. Very knowledgeable staff who all cycle.

Convenient location. Disappointing serviceDropped off a bike (for a family member ultimately paying the bill) and did not have a good experience. As many of my reviews will note, I may be on a student budget, but that doesnt mean my spending power is any less diminished in certain circumstances.I may not look like I am going to drop money in the store (which I certainly will one day when done studying) but I was there on behalf of someone else with no problems spending money at the store.I was ignored for 5 minutes or so and although I requested that very specific things, and those only be looked at on the bike being handed in, the bill payer received a call highlighting unrelated and frankly unnecessary work to be done.The staff treated me as if my business was not good enough and that they knew infinitely more on bicycles than their customers. Knowledgable they may be, arrogance is unnecessary though.Neither myself nor the bill payer shall be returning.
