Had a 5 star experience at Den Anker. We started off with cheese croquettes, tempura prawns and bitterballen. The bitterballen is a bit of acquired taste. For the main, we enjoyed a glass of white wine with fish and a glass of red wine with sirloin steak and a side of fritters. We also enjoyed mussels steamed in beer, parsley and garlic butter. The mixed berry beer is easy to drink and perfect for the summer.
My friend and I went for a lovely early dinner at Den Anker and they did not disappoint. We decided to get the cherry beer which was delicious and selected the specials menu. The food was amazing and the the price you pay (especially in the Waterfront) is well worth it. The service was friendly and attentive and the views from the restaurant are amazing. Would definitely bring my Dad here for the beer. Great👌🏻
Had a very nice experience here sitting tasting some Belgian beers they gave me six Belgian beers and I sat at the waterfront looking at table top mountain during sunset which was quite the view. Here for work and didn’t get out of the hotel much until now, glad I made my way to the waterfront thank you for the beer
THE HOLY GRAIL OF BEER!!!!!if you enjoy good beer and Belgian beers then look no further!! This place has over 35 to choose from...The restaurant is amazing, friendly service from staff and the food is incredible.... Proper shelf quality and style!! Amazing food!Got exceptional service from a waitor named Victor - what a legend!!The view of the waterfront and table mountain is the best, especially if you are able to sit outside... And at night the view is extra special when all the the lights around the city come on!
I love this place. Great food, amazing beer selection and friendly staff. The view is also fantastic. Cant go wrong with Den Anker.
Excellent view of Table Mountain and boats. Very good food. Outdoor seating available. We paid R40- for a can of Appletizer and R30- for a can of sparkling water though.
Nice atmosphere, easy crowd and good vibe. Employees are friendly and covid protocols in place. Duval served us and he was very pleasant. Would definitely recommend a visit
Very nice restaurant on the harbour. Wide variety of tapas and beers on the menu. Food is amazing. Would recommend.
Man! The Norwegian Salmon dish at Den Anker V&A is just out of this world. I’ve had it twice now and every time I dig in, I just want to get up my chair and dance. That’s how delicious it is. They have an amazing wine selection and their beer list is as long as the list of sins you have committed in your life time.If you don’t have their Belgium waffle, then you can add that to your list of sins. When you book a table, make sure you get a table next to the window. If you dress up to go there, don’t worry, you won be over dressed😉.
What a super experience.. served wagyu burgers in less than 15 minutes with a large portion of fries. Spectacular views, awesome service. Thanks a million guys.
We had an awesome evening!Great service and the food was excellent. Generous portions I might add. They have an amazing dessert promotion on currently. 2 waffles with cream and ice cream for R100! Soooo worth it. You will not regret this dessert. The restaurant layout is goodFriendly staff and great service throughout the evening. We also had really good wine 🍷One of my best nights out in a long time... 😀
Great food! Great service! We were so well taken care of!I also love where the restaurant is located, it has such an incredible view of the harbour, and the rest of Cape Town.Thank you to Christian our waiter who made the experience so worthwhile for us.I definitely will be back!
The ambiance, food and service at Den Anker was incredible. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want a real treat.
Wow! Blown away by my experience here. I had the strawberry waffles special. R100 for two including honey and cream and ice cream. A real deal. The view is fantastic, I watched the Cape Fur Seals playing in the harbor, and the luxury boats coming in and out.Try out the beers at lunch time as well, theyve got some amazing specialities. These are my photographs from my morning with them. Yum.🍓🧇🍯
Excellent food & service from Noel.Den Anker never disappoints. Keep up the standards as quality never goes out of style.
Im very glad we chose to go to Den Anker out of all the choices at the V&A Waterfront. We had the best and tastiest muscles (very fresh and steamed, not the typical cream and garlic recipe) with some wonderful Durvel beer and Bitterballen to start. They had a really good value selection of two for the price of one specials. Would definately return if Im ever around the area again.
We ordered the house steak and the Norwegian salmon. Both tastes just lovely and is really of high standard! Our waiter was very quick and friendly and immediately helped us when we wanted to switch tables. No fuss at all. Thank you.
Great location with the benefit of an unobstructed view of Table Mountain. We had a late breakfast for one of the party which was a great portion and tasty. The soup which again was a good size and hearty for a cold day. We also split a starter portion of mussels that was very disappointing. Overloaded with herbs yet a bland and tasteless dish.
The food was good and a nice view, friendly staff.
Absolutely the best value Ive had in years. We had the special of 2 meals for one price. We both selected the traditional Belgian dish of steamed muscles with Frites(slender chips) with mayo. Beautifully presented. Muscles so fresh. The soup with the muscles was so tasty. Service was excellent and friendly. And what a view. Perfect location for a most memorable lunch. Many thanks.
Great place at the waterfront for excellent Belgian beer and food!
My son recommended the fish and chips at Den Anker, insisting its the best ever. We were not disappointed. Light and crispy, not oily at all. We dont drink alcohol but I believe the beer tasting is an experience. This is not a cheap Fish and Chips but well worth it. We had the rock shandy - so refreshing. Great friendly service. Our food was served very quickly as well. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful views of Table Mountain and Lions Head.
Awesome setting, meal was perfect, staff delightful. Not cheap but A1 for a treat. We had a stunning day. Make a plan when you can.
Had a very nice experience here last night - the manager brave the bitter weather to greet us outside and persuade us to come inside to eat, Im glad she did. We opted for the specials - Pork Belly served with mash potatoes & Fish & Chips. A nice touch was the long strip of pork crackling over the pork bellies that was to die for. The table was overlooking the harbour and was able to watch boats come and go over a glass of fine Merlot. Specialmention to our waiter Shaun (or Shawn) who was superb and very hard working and the manager who was hands on and very pleasant. The ambiance is perfect to relax and enjoy a pleasant dinner - Thank you.
Be careful with card payments here. Double charge.
So, I tried the Den Anker ‘Date Night’ special recently, and it is a really good value for money deal – not surprising since Den Anker is known for their quality offers and seafood. I enjoyed great mussels, chips, and authentic Belgian food. It is always a pleasure to return there and savour a meal. They maintain a stellar standard of service, food, and the entire dining experience from booking to bill – this rings true even after spending nearly a year away from the restaurant due to work commitments. You need to check out their little outside garden if you pop in for a bite! It is so cute, and lovely to sit back in, and you have one of the best views of the city from Den Anker too. This is definitely a favourite of mine within the Waterfront.
Lovely mussels and Belgian waffles. Efficient , friendly but not intrusive service. A really great waitervserved us
We had a lovely lunch with friends. Everything was absolutely perfect. Will definitely recommend.
Enjoyed our waffles and ice-cream and the service was good. Price was also suitable for locals.
The goal was to work our way through the expansive menu of Belgian beers and were almost done. Each beer paired with its own glass is an experience, and then you get to the one you have to give up a shoe for... and realize you might just want to sacrifice a shoe for the unusual serving glass. On the food menu, we started with Belgian fries to line tummies for the beer, until the one day we treated ourselves to the pork belly ensemble, and the fish and chips. Bold flavor and served consistently well prepared, there is nowhere else we would eat these. Although Im not one for waffles, their Belgian waffles have me converted... light with a hint of crispness on the outside, paired perfectly with ice cream makes this the best way to end a sunny day spent at Den Anker. Definitely one of our favorite spots in the City.
Quite possibly my favourite restaurant in the Waterfeont. Excellent Belgium cuisine and excellent beers. Pricing is good and awesome atmosphere!
Had a lovely lunch at Den Anker - the best fish and chips weve ever had. I wasnt a fan of the patagonian baby squid but my boyfriend said it was nice. Also a really good rock shandy and gin selection and ended off sweetly with a Belgium Waffle of course that they kindly served in 2 as we were sharing - great service.
We celebrated Fathers Day at Den Anker. The pork belly and the mussels pot were delicious with fabulous views to enjoy as well and the service was impeccable. Tim was our waiter and was friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back.
Beautiful location, friendly service, quality and presentation of food ... there isnt anything to justify a score less than 5 stars.
Noel was such a professional waiter. Food is, as always excellent. The daily specials are fabulous value for money. And the setting .....right at the waters edge..perfect
Great breakfast with a view. Been many times for evening meals so this was a surprise. Perfect setting when the weathers good.
Amazing place to eat and have a bear. Had the rabbit stew, omg it was Amazing. Childhood flash backs from the farm.
Really nice place with delicious food. The atmosphere was great. We had the special two portions of fish and chips and it was excellent. We also had the beer that was in special and was also really good. Definitely recommend for a good dinner at Waterfront.
Loved it here, you will definitely be seeing me again! Amazing food at reasonable prices. Would strongly recommend!
Very good service, but my Chateaubriand was pedestrian, and served on a cold plate.
Service is phenomenal...plating is DECADENT...best waffles in CT, with fresh strawberries and delicious cream that you will dream of after!
Such great specials. Such generous portions. A real classy dining experience.
Love love love. Great food, service and ambiance
Atmosphere is on point. Service is super. They have a special with R125 where you get a starter and a beer taster. They give a generous portion so it’s great to share. The mains - we went for seafood. It was a disappointment. I was expecting larger portions especially for the price you’re paying. Food tasted okay but I really wouldn’t return for the same food. I’ll be happy to taste other items on the menu but I wouldn’t go for the tuna.Lovely view of the harbor. Just a note - if you booking online and want a great view. Choose the “mountain” seating and not “harbour”. Mountain View’s is the better view 100%
A really awesome dining experience...the service was outstanding
Very nice! Had mussels, hake and oysters. Will definitely be back.
Review on Beer only:Great service from Ben behind the bar, he recommended a good beer to try, plus brought us tasters of more well-known Belgian Beers. Best part was the BOGOF offer.. buy one get one free which was reflected on our bill!
Nice food and view ,customer care good
Divine, delicious and decadent, but we are worth it. Warren, wait staff, gave impecable service that truly elevated the restaurant rating to 5 star. He was knowledgeable, professional and anticipated our needs before we ourselves realized. At some point the manager asked if all was well. WELL DONE. A definite must visit, we will definitely be back eventhough we live in Australia, UK, and USA.
Great food, great service, great ambiance
Theres always a reason why some restaurants stand the test of time..Great service. Great food and the view is complimentary. And look out for the specials!
Pot of Mussels is an absolute winner. My favorite restaurant at the Waterfront.
Great beer, great food, excellent service!
Great place to sit, relax and watch the world go by with an amazing backdrop of table mountain. Loads of nice beers, which I was given a few different free tasters and loads of nice wine. Lovely food with great service and all priced very reasonably for somewhere so commercial and touristy. You can get a quick snap in the table mountain picture frame whilst youre there, thats right next to Den Anker.
Nothing particularly stood out, especially not the food. It was neat as can be seen on the pictures but flavour was rather bland. The staff are friendly and helpful when they do get to you otherwise they are no where to be found. The orange juice I ordered tasted so strange, very sour with a creamy after taste, had to add water to make it taste better, truly awful.View is amazing cannot take that from them, but I wanted to enjoy a tasty foreign meal. Their green salad was the saving grace, really enjoyed that.
Was a beautiful day to sit outside and enjoy my eggs benedict, mimosa and my waffle.
Amazing food! Intriguing experience and wonderful view! Enjoyed the plant bag initiative next to the dock, which added a natural feel💚
Expensive but nice atmosphere and great waffles
Deinitely in the top three meals Ive had. Perfectly cooked tuna steak, and with sauce and spinach combination the best I have experienced. That chef knows his stuff. Friendly, sophisticated and professional service all round. Wonderful ambiance which made us feel welcome One can tell that the same chef has been there since the opening. His attention to detail is only surpassed by his knowledge of the produce and how to combine these to maximum effect. Thank you Den Anker team for a most memorable experience. We will be back.
Great food and the staff are always friendly. We will be back soon
It felt like home. Food was super nice.
Very friendly staff great customer service
Outstanding venue. Good food. Excellent coffee. Had breakfast in the harbour while watching seals playing and tugboats arriving. New german high tech frigate anchored nearby.
Great place to eat. Menu has some creativity. Views are world class - best to sit outside and dine so fresco along the waters edge of the harbour basin. Food is good to look at and good to eat. Engaging staff - knowledgeable in terms of the menu and wine list, they will also bring you a blankie if the temperature drops. Fitting spot to celebrate an occasion but, also works for a casual meal. Thumbs up!
Im so tired of restaurants not catering for vegetarians. It feels like were being punished for loving animals and not wanting to eat meat. Its 2021, and I think change is long overdue. I went to Den Anker for dinner last night and there was one, only one vegetarian main meal on the menu! When I spoke to the waiter about it she did inform me that there is another option available, off menu, but I had to complain first to get that info. The starters and sides are also mostly meat. Its just not good enough. The chips and cheese croquettes I ended up ordering was good, service was good, view beautiful. If there were more good veggie options it wouldve been a 5 star review. But, seriously, ONE option on the menu? Beyond ridiculous.
Excellent food, both steak and seafood. The bitterballen are stunning and a must try! Also a great selection of Belgium beers.
