Aegir is a lovely Noordhoek joint. Their KFC burger, in both vegetarian (cauliflower), and in original chicken, was absolutely to die for. Would definitely recommend. The beer, Red Rye ale, not too bad but not the greatest, a little under-carbonated for my taste. All in all a good experience, IF you have a reservation. Place tends to be quite booked up, but has a great vibe to justify
Hmm, started off quite cold, got my IPA and was not impressed with it.. then got the vegetarian hot dog and was seriously wondering if the CT crowd just liked things small because the hotdog ( dont bother) was more like a Chiwawa in a bun, things were looking quite down.. but then I got the the DDH and yeah from there on things started picking up :) The calamari burger was the best Ive ever tasted and between me and the Dog we polished the whole plate.. highly recommend the ice cream sandwich for dessert...In the end, actually enjoyed the evening, played some chess and relaxed.. my recommendation, ... Well worth the visit..
One of the best places for beer lovers around Cape Town. Everything from beers to food to staff to place to philosophy is fantastic. Cozy and atmospheric, loved by locals and visitors alike, pet and family friendly, but big space let you find a spot for being comfortable. Not to mention ocean view from the upper deck is magnificent. Do yourself a favour, go.
Great food, amazing craft beers! Had all 10 including the sparkling water.. And enjoyed them all. Definitely worth the visit.
Good experience, nice vibe and good food. Well appointed with nice Pedersen and Lennard furniture.
The red herring lives on! Very well thought out vibe here. Inside, outside, upstairs it all works. Dog friendly and kiddable, come laze in the deep south. Beer from the source is worth the drive, bring your growler. Food menu is not extensive but covers the bases and does it well. Oh, and the beach is just down the road if youre coming or going
I was at Aegir in the afternoon on a quiet Wednesday with my partner and a friend, it was my partners birthday so we decided on this restaurant. After receiving our meals, a waitress came down the stairs and stopped dead in her tracks, making direct eye contact with me. She proceeded to call me cute and exclaimed enthusiastically that she wanted to put me in her pocket. I took a deep breath and said nothing. To be clear, I am 27 years old. To make it worse, she then said carry on, walked past our table and tapped the back of my head. I can say that interaction did not improve our experience. We left after speaking to the manager, Kim, who was pleasant enough. I have never been so insulted at a restaurant before. It is not acceptable to infantilize a patron and under no circumstances should a waiter ever touch a patron. We will not be coming back.
Awesome place, good food and good beer. Half pints a lot smaller than I expected so you better off going full pint, but awesome beers regardless
Easily the best beer in SA and a brilliant set up in Noordhoek to enjoy them! Simply delicious beers with excellent staff in terms of their beer knowledge and recommendations (including food) - cheers to Ryan and Kate! Beautiful space and wonderful views from the top deck. Only regret is that I couldnt stay there longer - definitely a place to try if you like good beer, tasty and intersting food and good people.
Fabulous place. Perfect way to enjoy a lazy afternoon. Great beer, food and friendly efficient service combined with easy to listen to live band. 10 out of 10.
We went to Aegir for the first time on Mother’s Day although it was very busy they did an excellent job food was amazing, i am vegetarian and their burgers are so yummy!Service was brilliant very friendly and efficient. The beer was delicious as was the cider. My only criticism is that they could just slow down a bit everything happens very quicklyWe will be back very soonThank you
Had a lovely Public holiday lunch at the inside bar upstairs. Great views, yummy beer and the burgers were just so delicious! Quite pricey but totally worth it 👌🏼
Outstanding beer and equally great food. One of Cape Towns best kept secrets.
Nestled within green trees, with the smell of the sea, when the breeze is just right. Wood and black steel tables, with modern kegs behind a white tiled bar and kitchen.Brewery with a changing assortment of beers, brewed and tapped on-site.Kitchen with wood fired pizza and brioche buns baking in the oven serves a tasty assortment of food to pair with wonderful beers. Worth a visit 😁
We love this place - were devastated when they closed at Uitsig but its well worth the trip over the mountain to Noordhoek. The beer is superb, the servers are fantastic and the ambience is great. A fabulous place to unwind, watch the sunset and chill with friends. Family-friendly too. Highly recommended.
The Noordhoek local - great beer and tasty food. Lots of outdoor seating. Great spot for sundowners.
Excellent service, food and drinks. Conversational staff vibey atmosphere and amazing view.
My cauliflower burger fried in kimchi batter was really delicious and satisfying. Im not vegan, I was just curious - good call :D. Love that they offer wine in cans and house sodas - pink lemonade is probably my favorite. Keen to go back.
Every time I am here! The food is always amazingAnd the staff!!!They are beautiful examples of team work and professionalism.
The best pizza in the South Peninsula! Also a fantastic jungle gym if you need to get the kids off your plate, or an upstairs option far away from the jungle gym, if youre out to be away from kids ;) Great cider, great beer!
Lovely, relaxed setting. Unfortunately the service is also very much relaxed. After requesting service from three waiters with no result, we eventually gave up and left after more than 30mins. Sadly unlikely to return or recommend.
Aegir is a great place for breakfast, pizza, burgers and beer. It is dog and children friendly. The staff are excellent and there is a very friendly atmosphere. The restaurant is very popular so booking is a good idea.
Likely the best pizza in Cape Town, and great selection of beers. Highly recommended.
Great selection of beer that you can only get here. Food is excellent. Try the hot dog, pizza r chicken wings. The burgers looked great as well. Dog and kid friendly. Attentive and efficient service.
Its an amazing brewery which had grown so much and is doing so well. The restaurant has a lovely vibe, you can even play chess and other games at your table. The food is exquisite and the beers are expertly made. Definitely recommend going here after a walk on noordhoek Beach.
Aegir Giant IPA has always been the best IPA ever: a delicious smooth amber beer Ive enjoyed for several years. That plus Red Rye: a very easy-drinking red ale. My last visit a few weeks ago was a bit disappointing, as neither of these beers were available. However my wife and I visited the Ale House this evening, and our favourites are back! So 5 stars for really great beers and ambience!!Update: 2021-10-19Sadly it seems the delectable Giant Project IPA has disappeared; possibly because South Africans are more into lagers than very bitter fruity ales. In any case there is quite a wide selection of craft beers on offer: well worth a try!The Ale House in Constantia is no more, so the only place you can taste these beers at the moment is in Noordhoek. A beautiful location for watching those summer sunsets!
Burger, pizza and beers are very good as is the location.. BUT management, why is there only ONE waiter taking care of the entire establishment lunchtime Tuesday. After more than 10 minutes we hadnt even been offered a drink as the poor guy was spinning out. Not fair on him or your patrons.
Got really amazing vegan options. I recommend the cauliflower burger. It is probably the best vegan burger Ive ever had!
Aegir Project in Noordhoek is worth the visit. Their craft beers are delicious and as you can taste all of them you will definitely find something you like. The outside seating area is covered by a beautiful tree canopy which helps for the hot summer days, but they also have heaters outside if things get a bit chilly. Although they have an inside seating area for rainy days, it is very small so I recommend you check the weather before you go. They have a small menu with snacks and fresh juices available for purchase. The staff are friendly and passionate about the beer so you are guaranteed a good time.
The setting of the old Red Herring Pub is just fantastic for a sun downer craft beer. It is also dog friendly which makes it a great after walk stop off. They must hope the sun blinds you, so you dont see the food prices. These guys are either completely detached from reality or not too concerned at garnering local regulars for food, hoping rather that Londoners make the commute, but with all the empty tables, maybe theyre stuck on the tube. This is unfortunate, as the food was actually quite tasty. I had the R140 chicken KFC burger and chip, my mate had the calamari crumb. This is now officially the most expensive KFC on the planet. Converting to pounds it even gives London a run for its money. Steeper than the nearby Toad in the village and Jakes which both arguably do better burgers too. The portion is mean. Not even a whole chicken breast and what amounted to about six chips. My mates calamari was about the size of a golf ball and average too. I went in enjoying the sun and a tasty beer and great service, but left annoyed for being rinsed, and still hungry. Drop your prices 10% and stop rationing your chicken breasts. Its not the apocalypse, and at R15 a bite, Im not about to take out a mortgage for that view.
Great place, great staff, great food, interesting beers and fair pricingJust be aware, the half pint does come in a very cute glass so if you wanna grab that cause youre the dd, your mates will probably make a big deal about it
Such a privilege to have this as my local, a worthy replacement for the historic Red Hearing. Love the atmosphere, the food and of course the beers... some of the best I have ever tasted.
Fourth visit, and each and every one has been a great experience - good craft beer, delicious food, excellent, friendly service and chilled, country/folky ambiance, normally with some really good, just the right volume, live music make this a firm favorite of mine.
What a vibe. Great beer. Excellent food. Exceptional service
Excellent food and venue. The beers are ridiculously good!
Always incredible beer, incredible food and amazing atmosphere. Lovely staff that are always happy to see you.
What a beautiful place to have craft beers and craft gins, and there pizza are really awesome with different and tasty fillings. Definitely going back. 😁👌
My friend and I would rate this eating place much lower. Our different meals were poorly cooked. In fact my friend told me he spent most of that night throwing up. The choice on the menu is unattractive and the high standards reached by the former Red Herring Restaurant have plunged to zero.
Great staff. Everyone was friendly, awesome and efficient. The beer I tried the Helle Lager. Super crisp but not bitter, refreshing lager for a hot day. The beer battered fish with thick cut fries...delicious!
I have loved this little brewery from the inception and was delighted when they extended their operations into food and other drinks! Aegir recently occupied the old Red Herring space as well, so we no longer have to fight for space! Their burgers are our favorite choice on their menu.
Some delightful craft beers at a splendid price for the tasting, the lunch menu looked promising - alas the service was in chaos and we were ready to seek out a hammock each to sleep off the beers before our pretzel hot dogs arrived. Delicious they were - and well-matched with the beers. A lovely afternoon.
First visit today and will be back. I loved the self service system. Only issue was I could not order coke, nor sparkling water. So long as your drinking craft beer or wine, youre good. We had the new York hot dogs and the food was simple but delicious.
Great beers on tap-fantastic pizza...
Delicious varied hotdogs with gorgeous pretzel rolls and juicy Frankfurts. Huge variety of beers with a tasting option for them. Very accommodating staff. Kid friendly and pet friendly. Very cozy, warm vibe with lovely live music. Band performing are unobtrusive yet welcoming and cheerful. Amazing experience.
Good selection of craft beers, nice pizzas and vibrant setting. Good for a pint with friends
In booking I had shared that this was for a birthday and for the beer tasting, the staff did not inform me that the beer tasting is no longer a thing for a brand whose main draw card is beer tasting. Unfortunately drove extremely far for a let down, may come again but rather will try places who are a little more considerate to the customer when booking.
A very pleasant experience, some wonderful serving staff, tasty food and a magic setting
Cool vibes and great food!
Its a lovely, family and dog friendly place. Great vibe, food and beer.
Nice setting, outstanding beers of all sorts and brilliant food. We sampled a great deal of the menu with out party of 8, and everything was excellent! Includes a playground for the kids. Highly recommended!
Amazing service, food and craft beer all with a beautiful sea view. Waiter Gerry is an absolute gem. Thanks Aegir
The beer is great and the atmosphere festive. Pub menu could be expanded, but food on offer is very good. Great place to go, relax amd enjoy good craft beer
Great beer as always. Love the new venue. The chicken burger was phenomenal, definitely recommended it!
Fantastic! Friendly and welcoming staff, amazing breakfast, delicious coffee (R10 morning coffee special too!) Great views over Noordhoek! Will definitely be back for more! Also looking forward to tasting the beer when lockdown allows :-)
Amazing location, great food, and top notch beer!
Really tasefull beers and really one of the best foods in the area, vegan friendly options are amazing. Reservations are recommended if you want a table in the shade.
For the beer, had an excellent time, there were 10 beers on tap of which the 4 I had were on style and very enjoyable.I also had to opportunity to try the speciality beer, Little Rogue, which is a 4 year old barrel (naturally fermented) sour beer.It is absolutely phenomenal. The restaurant and staff were excellent as well. Service and attention to detail were beyond just getting your food. The food, had a Souther Fried chicken burger. A bit on the small side for my appetite, but very good and well prepared, good meal.
Top tier beer, simple but delicious food. Informal serve-yourself system. Phone menu doesnt work well, just ask staff for a printed version.
Burgers a bit pricey but are very tasty. Good range of fantastic craft beers to choose from, will definitely be back.
A fine spot. Good beer, excellent fish and chips, and friendly service.
Setting is lovely and drinks are very good but very disappointed with the new menu. My favourite hot dog (the most delicious Ive ever tasted) is off the menu and replaced with a bland, frankly mediocre burger! Added to which is is placed on paper which goes soggy and you find yourself eating paper! I used to visit weekly but unless the menu improves, I wont be returning!
Great place to relax with the family good food
Good beer, good food and friendly helpful staff.
A mighty fine establishment for a post surf beer and burger.
Great food, great drink, great service, great views. Was awesome.
The service, beer, vibe and execution of the whole new offering is great. I would have given it 5 stars but the new menu is pretty disappointing. Feels like a Kloof Street menu and matching pricing, without the execution. Ill be back for a Red Rye, but wont be chowing again
Really good food and the drinks from their brewery is great!
Good Food, great beer, awesome location & very good service!
Great food and craft beers
Great place...great beer....good food
Always a good time!
Great vibe, good food, fantastic beer!
From PE, WONDERFUL for families to meet, good friends too ♡♥♡
Nice place with tasty beer and good food.
Great spot in Noordhoek. Not a beer drinker personally, but everyone else raved about their choices. Service was good and food was tasty. Ill definitely be back!
Good food, nice atmosphere and fair prices
We came here just after the adjusted level 3 Lockdown came into effect. The place is a brewery specialising in craft beers this means the ban on alcohol sales has a huge effect on it as their entire drinks menu was dependent on craft items. We dried their non alcoholic grape fizz which was flat...not as much fizz as one would expect. We tried their apple fizz it had a bit of a buzz and my friend enjoyed it. Thats all they had to offer. No other cooldrinks unfortunately which quite limiting. We ordered cheese burgers and one southern fried chicken burger. Id say the cheese burgers were pretty average and chicken burger was the better option. The overall service from the waiters was fair.
Good beer 🍺 Good pizza 🍕 and good company 😋
Great venue. Awesome management. Attention to detail in everything they do.
Truly epic vegan burger, highly recommended
Lekker place, even better beer.
Arguably the best part of the Noordhoek valley! Fantastic beer and friendly staff. A wonderful place to knock back a pint or two.
