Lovely bar! Probably one of the most iconic bars in Stellenbosch if not the country. People from every walk of life has come and gone from this bar and it oozes with history. Many a theory and thesis have been formulated around the old oak tables and cold on tap beers. De Akker is for everyone who wants to experience good old stellenbosch.

Took the kids to one of Dads old spots from University days. Still looks and feel the same as the early 90s. Red leather interior, long bar and outside seating. The food portions were generous and the beer was cold. I left happy.

It was pretty decent. They had cool jager bomb glasses with decent prices. It just takes long to order from the bar and it was not busy at all. Maybe like 20% full. There is also some miscommunication about prices but further it is quite good.

Had a beer after a hike. Good selection and fair prices. Food was also good. Staff were top notch. Minor issue with the orser was sorted quickly and efficiently.

Chicken strips took over an hour on a SUNDAY. Only one person in kitchen, but tasted average.

Love the music. You can never go wrong with oldies. The interior is rustic and very cozy. Staff are very friendly. Would definitely go again.Covid protocols are being followed as far as I could tell. Sanatizing station right at the door with a foot pedal and then the door lady took details and our temperature.

Great atmosphere

Great place to stop off for a few afternoon drinks. Outdoor area has water mist sprays to keep you cool on the outside while the great selection of drinks kept me cold on the inside. We didnt have food but the portions going to neighbouring tables looked impressive.

My husband and I visited de Akker today over lunch time. We were not sanitized at the door, nor our temperatures taken. His steak was satisfactory, but my fish was awful. The salt pot was sticky and nobody came to enquire if the food was satisfactory. A great disappointment.

If you want to eat in a restaurant in Stellenbosch on a budget, then this is your place. My steak was perfect and they have a very cheap wine list. Service was great as well.

Absolutely horrible.No social distancing!They served food only to make us take it out as a take away as they suddenly had to close.The grilled cheese was burnt on one side which was conveniently placed on the bottom so that you couldnt see it.They also chased everybody inside just before closing which meant there was no social distancing.0/10 would not recommend.

Great for early get togethers, that turns real vibey later on. A place for young and old alike. Just an all round great place.

Very disappointed - the only place Ive ever eaten where they cant even put the bread the same way up on a grilled cheese so most of the cheese was lost! We went there for a late dinner a drinks. We checked they were still serving food and instantly ordered, 45 min later they brought us our food in takeaway containers and kicked everyone out (several other tables had this happen to them too)!

Heard it is the oldest bar in Stellenbosch, had to visit it. It was nice to chill over with wine from the region

Garden pub for beer, dinner - the Sosatie was perfect, burgers too. Quite crowded in the evening, some street artists and sellers were on the street and performed (dance, acrobatics, fire show) or offer products for selling.

The oldest pub in Stellenbosch, or was it the country? Either way, it is a taproom nesstled between coffee shops and office space. Needless to say the area it is situated in has been modernizing. Yet the humble beginings of the place is still vissable on the walls through countless photos and memorabilia dating from...well... well before anyone alive today has been born. A coin collection decorates the inside of the bar counter area and a fire place can be found in one of the corners.Be careful if you intend on visiting the pub on a Friday or Saturday night. It plays host to a array of students.They also serve various beers! Craft and commercial. Be sure to try a few!

Old school pub. Nothing fancy but both patrons and staff friendly. Went there with partner for a trip down memory lane and ended up at a GREAT party. Platter for two AMAZING!

Poor service - constantly being asked to move and food given in takeaway containers to make us leave sooner.

Always a nice place for a jol, a chilled night, a quick reason to have a drink with your friends. Also very awesome place to meet new people for all over the world.

Decent little venue in Stellenbosch, initially went to Jerrys however De Akker offer sport. The bar itself is not bad, the food menu needs a revamp with a bit more variety. Well priced, seems to be a local favourite.There are many options on this stretch, this is however a good option if you want something very relaxed and casual.

A very trendy place where all the sophisticated midnight philosophers go to top up their bellies with ice cold brew from the tap. Best to go during the day or at night and not between 3am and 6am since you will find it closed.

Mainly a pub to go for drinks. Food is not that great . They usually have live music on weekends. Old pub with original interiors and in an old heritage building.

Very friendly staff, considering the patrons can get loud and rowdy. Mature students and young professionals frequent here, with a handful of eccentric locals peppered throughout. Theres an indoor fireplace and its the best place for sport as well.

I think I went at the wrong time (Sunday 15th April 18) waiter staff non-existing. Bar staff couldnt pour a beer (I ended up having a lot of head in my glass.It seems like a great place to chill and maybe it was just a bad day that day, Ill be back to see and hopefully give a better review :)

This place is alright, more of a student hangout, get drunk place.The food is average, but that can easily be said because their main focus is on alcoholic beverages.The waitrons dont know the menu extremely well (The alcoholic ones) I wasnt the most impressed with this place.

The pubbiest pub in Stellenbosch (and the oldest!). The owner, Simon, has taken great care to re-furbish and clean up De Akker - now it is clean, has great service and above all, is a great place for a beer and a banter. Good food (small but essential pub collection), good music (the have live musicians every other week), and a great place to take friends.

Havent been there for years, but was pleasantly surprised of how it improved. Yummy chips and awesome craft beers.

Authentic Stellenbosch pub. Now with a spotless bathroom and clean kitchen. You just cant skip this place when visiting Stellenbosch. The customers are The Good, The Bad and sometimes The Racist Bastards from Elzenburg farm college, but its more real than anywhere else in town. All the food is straightforward but satisfying.

Bit difficult to get drinks, and wait for food is long. Ribs are delicious.
