Delicious brunches and coffee at decent prices. The staff are friendly and efficient. The place is not massive but we were able to get a table after a short wait. The grilled mushrooms and egg on toast is phenomenal! Highly recommended for a quick and tasty bite.

My husband and I enjoy Schoon so much that we just keep going back! Fantastic coffee, delicious food, and just a really nice vibe. Theyve also always got good music playing, so we like to come here to do a bit of work.

Attitude of a male server was abysmal and one of bad bad attitude. He believed he was doing me a favour attending me. Not back there in a hurry. They certainly not a niche outlet. Many others to patronise. Was contacted by owner advising I contact them privately to resolve. Not sure why in this manner as my outrage at this incident is one of public concern and their response should, and MUST BE, TRANSPARENT.The only resolution is through correction to ensure no one else is EVER subjected to this.

Great place to have a coffee and something to eat. We had breakfast and it was just perfect! The food is presented in a different way, for instance the Croque Monsieur comes in a really nicely and tasty way with a perfect presentation of layers on top of each other. The taste was just perfect!Friendly staff members were the cherry on the pie.

Great coffee and nice space. The kitchen needs serious work: like you order a spinach omellete and it has 4 pieces of spinach leaves - i kid you not, raw. while if you order cooked tomatoes as a side its a relish and is about two tea spoons worth for R30. Food portions are also snack size. Kinda ridiculous.

The coffee is good. But found service was quite low, sat outside and had to keep getting up to get any kind of attention, frustrating experience.

There is no excuse for stale, at least one day old baked goods at a bakery at 9 30am. Drive a few blocks on to Bentleys if you are in Sea Point and want a decent bakery. All shiny interior and no substance when I visited.

Shocking. I have been a loyal customer for years at the original Schoon bakery in Stellenbosch. I never once had an issue. My first bad experience was at the jew branch in Stellenbosch, on the corner of church and bird streets. I walked in with the intention to order a croissant. I was blatantly ignored (while standing at the counter) for now less than 10 minutes. Eventually I just walked out and vowed not to go back. I had a sneaky suspicion the rollout of new stores would spread the bakery and management team thin with all the new stores.Untrue to my feelings, I decided to try the mew store in Sea Point as it’s located close to my home. I had a breakfast which was ok, not exactly on par with previous experiences but nothing to complain about. Here is where things went wrong. Upon ordering my bill I asked for a takeaway chocolate croissant, this will delivered to my table in a sealed box. While I was settling the bill I noticed a lady showing the manager something in a box with a disgruntled and disappointed look on her face. I could not hear what they were discussing but I knew something wasn’t right.I proceeded home and gave the croissant to my partner. Immediately after she opened the box she called me. The croissant was so stale I could literally use it as a door stop. This was not the flakey, buttering layers of pastry I fondly remember, in fact I would be hesitant to even call that a croissant.I quickly called the bakery (in stellenbsoch) and explained to them that something was wrong. I was told that they knew about the issue and I wasn’t the first person to complain that day. This raised concerns for me. Why did they not pull the stock off the shelf, why did they continue trying to sell customers these brick like pastries they labelled croissants? Nevertheless I proceeded down to the Sea Point store to return the croissant (let’s just place on record that in comparison to woodstock bakery, proof etc, the croissants are very expensive).Upon returning the croissant, the manager offered ABSOLUTELY NO APOLOGY. But things still got worse. HE DID NOT EVEN REFUND ME OR OFFER ME SOMETHING ELSE to the equivalent value. Not only am I terribly saddened by the decline of Schoon, but also I feel robbed of 40 odd rand.I can categorically say I’ll never go back or support Schoon again, Ironically, as I was a huge advocate of the brand from the very early days.Sad.

Ive been to Schoon in Stellenbosch and have never had any complaints, but my experience at this one today was pretty terrible. I bought a croissant and 2 pasta de natas (all were very stale) and a cheesecake (that was R55) which tasted off, slightly fishy - very unexpected and gross. Super disappointing.EDIT: despite the owners response below, (both) my emails were never answered (after 2 weeks) - So, just know that the reply below is just an empty response to make it looks like they are actually interested. If youre looking for good pastries, head to Bentleys down the road. Excellent cheesecake too.
