Had the most lovely experience! Restaurant is clean & beautiful, service was outstanding. Food is ABSOLUTELY out of this world. Pricey - but worth it.

The food at the restaurant was absolutely out of this world, I cant fault anything and enjoyed every single dish we had! Unfortunately the service was a bit too overwhelming. We were checked on too often and kept having to stop out conversations and the instant we finished a plate and still chewing out plates were cleared. It can become a bit frustrating when its a bit invasive. The venue and ambience was still fantastic nonetheless

What an all round pleasant experience! The food is amazing and the staff are all super friendly and helpful. While its on the expensive side, its worth every cent. I was happy with the good vegetarian options (which is often a challenge at many other restaurants). I will definitely be back for more!

Super humbled by the experience here. Welcoming waiters, fast service, beautiful ambience for dinner. The manager made it extra special by making sure we were looked after exceptionally well... even treated us to complimentary desert! Great energy and humour. Every dish was served perfectly and did not dissapoint. Vast variety to choose from and vegeterian friendly. You can feel the passion put into this place, its a hidden gem in the city. The YU is special and sacred the Ayer room to detail that they have taken is exceptional. The Bao Buns, Sushi, Tom Yum Soup was so amazing. The Edamame Beans needed abit of help it was overcooked and soggy. The look and feel of the place is brilliant and has a unique feel. The staff were friendly and helpful some of them need a little bit more training. Well if you want some Asian Tapas go and give the YU fam a visit. If you a guest you can get the whole menu of food delivered to the pool area too which is nice. A litre disappointed with what they call room service as it didn’t feel special it just came in takeaways containers and they charged you R35 for the tray that was not great. Don’t call it room service if it’s in a takeaway. Freddy the GM was incredible and apologised for the lack of service.

Playing tag and Yu is it.All this foodsssss and such a little tummy.Still one of the best places in Cape Town to enjoy date night downstairs and the game on the 4th floor with the bartenders doing what they do best, pouring magnificent drinks.Food options are plenty and each are as delectable as the next, quality sushi and even better boa buns.Apologies for the food pics, could hardly wait to dig in before the flash went off.

Asian food with finesse. Service attentive but not intrusive. Extensive drinks menu. An enjoyable experience that ticked all the boxes.

Exceptional dinner. Calamari appetizer was out of this world good. Incredible sushi. Great Peking duck. Phenomenal meal all around. Perseverance and Prince were outstanding waiters. Attentive& engaging but not over-bearing.

Lunch at YU. Delicious soft shell 🦀 crab and a decent Japanese whiskey selection. The poke bowl is a bit on the sweet side for me but the food is all quality.

The food was delicious and most importantly Halal. The various dishes complemented each other well.

Randomly discovered this place because the other dim sum bar was closed. It did not disappoint! Loved the specials like the spicy prawn bao and the regulars like the chicken and chive dumpling. I ate way too much, but don’t regret it at all. Definitely coming back soon!

Amazing service and food! We went early on Saturday for our anniversary, and even though we were there just after opening, Ian took amazing care with us. We felt very special and taken care of. Seriously, the food is out of this world, drink selection was vast and impressive. However, the service Ian provided made this one of the best experiences ever, will be back soon and will never forget our wonderful, romantic experience at YU.

We tried a bit of everything on the menu and each dish was as delicious as the next. The wagyu sliders were particularly special. The waiters were amazing - so friendly, kind and attentive. They heard it was my birthday and brought me a special dessert, which was really sweet. This was definitely one of the best dining experiences I’ve had!

Friday afternoon, lunch at YU at the Onyx Hotel. To start with: the food was amazing, really really good! I’m a big fan of asian food and this place nails it.I did some research before we went, I selected some of the dishes that were recommended and that I wanted to try myself. We eventually made a choice of 6 dishes and 2 sides + 1 dessert.The portions are big, they call it ‘snacks’ but it’s so much more than that. We had the edamame beans, soft shell crab, sticky ribs, tuna seared salad, fried wagyu dim sum, duck bao bun, aubergine side dish, seafood fried rice and the chocolate fondant as dessert (to share because we we’re already very satisfied at that time).The wines were also very good, we had a Chenin Blanc, Cabernet and Syrah.It was well worth the money. Did I already say it was really really good?I’m sure we’ll be back to try more of the menu (or just the same, also pretty fine with me ;-)

Steak was extremely soft, sushi and dim sum were to die for, Boa buns were top tier. Best service too. Highly recommend

Great vegan friendly dishes and top star service

Such an amazing experience! Booked a table for my partners birthday and was pleasantly surprised. Staff was friendly,attentive, funny, food was just super! Best tuna sashimi we have ever tried!! The chefs also sent a yummy cheesecake as a compliment for the birthday boy, thank you very much for the experience!

Had not heard much about this place before a friend recommended it.Absolutely loved the food and menu. I had a tuna salad which was insanely tasty, so much so that I will have a hard time choosing something else from the menu in future even though there was plenty that I wanted to try.The interior is quite dark, creating a cosy and sophisticated dining experience.It seems popular with locals and tourists due to its location and should be visited by anyone who enjoys Asian style food. Good for small groups or a romantic evening out!

I just love this spot. It’s a hidden gem in the Foreshore with a mouthwatering menu and a passionate team that really love what they do. This place has heart and the food is delicious.

The food was amazing as always, the current manager is a huge joy and quite a good laugh. However, the waiters that dealt with us were quite rude and seemed to be very over our existence. So much as to just walk away from comments and tossing our bill at us. Unprovoked, it was quite a shock to be honest.

Enjoyed every minute and my Yu experience , the hospitality, the service and most of all the food...the food was so good..The calamari starter , the chicken wings, the papaya salad and the prawn boa buns was just amazing ...cant wait to go back ...a must try , loved it ♥️ forgot to take pics , too busy tantalizing my tastebuds 😋😋😋

What an amazing experience!! From the hostess, Precious, to the manager, Freddy, to our waiter Thobile, the staff were very friendly, attentive to detail and they made us feel like we were VIPs. The food was delicious and presented beautifully!!! Well definitely go back several more times!!

Currently sitting in a very empty restaurant, not one waiter has offered me a wine menu, or a refill of the water I had initially ordered. Order a starter of hosin calamari, very tasty, now left with the 45min wait for the peking duck main... Still waiting for water.... Such a shame.... ***edit*** So I initially wrote this butwhat did happen after the review.. Surprised me..... The manager and waiters read my review. Now that in its self dosent make up for slow service but it speaks to the human condition, sometimes we get it wrong, sometimes we forget. I paid for my bill (in full because the food was delicious) and Im sure after they have rallied their troops to ensure single diners arent left to their own demise... I might be back for a 5 star review

Celebrated by daughters birthday at YU Restaurant on 12 August 2019. Was our very best experience. The food was incredibly delicious and the chocolate fondant was the best and very well prepared. The ambiance at YU is fantastic. Great customer service. Our best part of the evening was meeting the Freddie the manager of YU. He ensured that this birthday experience was unforgettable and Freddie you sure created a wonderful experience and memory for our family. I highly recommend YU.

Have been at Yu on a few occasions. The food, the atmosphere, the friendly staff and Freddy the GM is absolutely fantastic. Freddy makes it his duty to come around to the table and makes everyone at the table feel special. The combination of excellent tasty tapas and brilliant service is a winning formula. This place is amazing! In my whole life, I’ve basically eaten 1. Asian food from Asia, which is, of course, really good and 2. Asian food from California, where Asian fusion basically was invented. Of all places in the world, this restaurant is probably the best Asian fusion I’ve had :)

My new favorite Asian restaurant! Yu is a lovely new restaurant with great service. I had the seared tuna salad for lunch and it was a nice big portion with quality ingredients! Cant wait to see what their dinner menu is like. Good vegetarian options as well. Lovely, simple (Japanese) decor.

Enjoyed my dinner here. Great ambience, service and presentation of food - and the food is very tasty too. My lamb chops were a bit too cooked for my preference (I asked for medium cooked), but it was still tasty. Gets crowded quickly, so check if you need to make a reservation.

Great venue, service and food. Well worth a visit if your feel like some Asian cuisine. Be sure to make a reservation as they get busy.

Understated culinary excellence! Must haves are the Hoisin calamari starter and the soft shell crab starter. You could spend your whole evening enjoying the starters without even getting to mains! Only warning is that the wine selection seems a bit on the young side so although the prices were quite high the selection vintages werent that great.

Stayed at The Onyx Hotel and this place was our go to, we visited three times. The sushi, sashimi and bao and accompanying sauces were authentic and tasty, but the stand out was the service, be it the receptionist Precious, the manager and the waiters. Our favourite waitress with a smile was Percy, very personable, friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit, a great space and location.

I ordered a salmon poke bowl take away and got home to find it was showered in chilli, which isnt mentioned on the menu, its full of aubergine which isnt mentioned on the menu, it didnt have any mayo in it and was just a very disappointing and strange taste which I couldnt finish as I dont handle chilli at all. Put the ingredients on the menu and make note of things like chilli.
