One of our whole family’s all time favorite restaurant in Melkbosstrand…Always greeted warmly and well taken care of.Food is always great and the atmosphere charming with memorabilia from times gone by displayed for appreciation…Amazing Chef Stefan Meintjies has also got his cookbook filled with treasured recipes from the restaurant to enjoy at home and I must say lots of our family meals have come out of this beautiful book.On a good warm day you have the views of the ocean … sea sand under your feet with the mussels and fish dishes highly recommended..On a cold winters night you feel cozy with the comforts of fires and the warmth of comfort food…We felt like something small to share tonight as we had lunch earlier and loved the chicken livers and stuffed calamari …Let me tell you the creme brûlée is absolutely decadent …Love this place 😉

Great restaurant right on the beach for drinks and food. Love that they are family friendly with a beach play area for the kids. Also Accommodating to the dogs, providing a nice bowl of water for the four-legged friends.Good selection of wine by the glass, carafe or bottle. Nice bottles of beer and draft options as well.

Great cozy atmosphere! With a place to keep the kids busy or watch the beautiful ocean view that is more peaceful. We had the Seafood casserole, Kingklip and Salmon. Food was spectacular, cappuccinos was excellent and then to top it up with there amazing deserts! There is so much to choose from and all sounds delicious! Would definitely recommend! Service was great too!

I pre booked online about 1 week in advance for a table in the Voorhuis. It was a delightful spot. Cosy and quiet. Our waitress was Elmarie, very competent and so friendly. The menu offers so many options and our choices were delicious. We will definitely return.

This is a must visit historical site and restaurant, when you visit Cape Town. Firstly, the restaurant is a historical building with lots of history captured inside the restaurant as well in their own written book. When you visit the restaurant for the first time, make sure to mention it because then they will give you their own written book, to read about the history behind the restaurant building. The book also contains the most delicious recipes. Our waitress also took it upon herself to explain the history to us when we walked through the building, which was awesome. Thank you!Service is impeccable. Food 5 star quality, prepared by chef who previously worked at Sheraton Hotel.

What a secret gem! Definitely one of my new favourite spots. We have been to this restaurant twice and have not been disappointed. The food was absolutely amazing, beautifully platted, well portioned and definitely delicious too. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the views of the ocean are so relaxing. The restaurant is a historic site with a variety of seating areas to choose from, which makes the restaurant very exciting because we definitely want to try all the different seating areas from indoor to outdoor, to under the tent or under the umbrella in the sand. The restaurant is also kid friendly with a lovely outdoor play area and the kids menu will definitely win them over, especially with the adorable umbrella toothpick in their meal. Their drinks are also lovely, from the milkshakes to the juices and even the hot drinks too. Their service is impeccable, as the waiters are very are wonderful. I would recommend making a reservation, as you would not want to be disappointed however they are accommodating for walk in seatings as well. But I had to leave the best for last.... The desserts are just to die for... Wow!!! Definitely keep room for dessert when visiting this restaurant, you dont want to miss out. Very nice! But just be careful not to order the pork belly. The person ordering the lamb will get a hearty meal and the person ordering the main meal pork belly will be very disappointed with a starter sized few bites. 🙈

Damhuis is a gem of a restaurant at the beachfront in Melkbos. Not only is the food superb but the service is attentive without being overbearing. If you want great food at affordable prices with a stunning view, Damhuis is the place to visit!

Friendliest staff. Beautiful restaurant and the food was absolutely exquisite. Our meat was succulent and tender. Definitely coming back soon to try the rest of the menu.

The beach is right next to it. There were a lot of parking spaces, but it wasnt easy to park because there were many cars. The food was delicious. There is a sand playground, so its good to be with children.

All in one restaurant. Gorgeous meals with perfect setting for both couples and families. Helpful and witty staff, and large portions! So be prepared to take home a DB.

Beautiful restaurant by the beach. The staffis very friendly, however it took long for us to get attention from the waiter. We sat outside by the smoking area which was beautiful, but the whole restaurant has fine dining feel, but its warm and calming. The food prices are reasonable but the lamb shank I had was a 2/5 😔 veggies were cooked perfectly with the right amount of crunch, The mash was creamy and cheesy, defs a 5/5.

This little restaurant is situated in Melkbos on the seafront. It has some history and character, but you would need to go there to find out for your self. We sat in a cozy part with a nive fire heater going. It was a real CapeTwon winters evening. Staff were very friendly. Food was good. We had dorado, tuna and a nice Greek calamari platter. Highly recomended.

Just had coffee, but the service was great and the food looked good. Place was busy with a good vibe.

We were pleasantly surprised on arrival, as eventhough the house is now a restaurant, it has been maintained in its original condition, a perfect blend of old and new.  The house was originally built in 1785 and was called the Damhuis, as it was built in the edge of a fresh water spring which formed a small dam.  Originally the house was built by Christiaan Brand from cow dung, sand, hay and whale bone.  The house was originally used as a shed for drying fish, but was later converted into a home where the Brand family lived.  The restuarant manager was very knowledgeable on the history of the house and took us on a mini tour giving us a peek into the past.  We decided to stay for lunch and had a delicious meal. While we were eating lunch the restaurant manager brought us two books to browse, both containing a overview of the history of the building and also some insight into the family who originally lived in the house. All in all a very interesting place to visit

This was such a lovely restaurant to visit on the beachside in Melkbosstrand! The interior is super cute and quaint, and the food is very reasonably priced as well as suuuuper tasty. The staff were also incredibly friendly and pleasant. Would most certainly definitely revisit when around in the area again!

Been wanting to go for years, but just never been able to get a table... today was the day.We had a stunning afternoon with fantastic food. I had the muscles in white wine and blue cheese sauce (and bacon bits), my MIL had the Pork Belly (huge portions) and hubby had the Hake and grilled Calamari.... it really was all absolutely fantastic!!The kids played up a storm while we enjoyed the time together, and the atmosphere.Definitely worth every penny.And our Waitor was fantastic, I think his name was Dumi, but seriously so on the ball. They dont make waitors like that anymore....Great service, great food (generous portions), and great atmosphere....

I always heard about this restaurant but could never get a booking (pre-covid). Anyway it is a great restaurant, with good service and food. The restaurant has an inside, undercover and outside area with sand and play area. So great for kiddies and parents.Oh, the steak salad was a bit underwhelming. It needs a dressing or something but the other food was good.

Busy yet cosy. Beach spot with a menu that covers what you will want. Oysters were a massive hit at competitive price and delivered from Saldanha keeping them fresh, big and tasty. Had the Eisbein with a crispy craft beer for mains ... truly satisfying! Great spot!

We had lunch on Sunday afternoon. Although this is a busy restaurant , service was friendly, flawless and super fast.The food is really very good and portions are quite large. The kitchen is obviously very well organized as well, because we did not wait long at all for our food, in spite the restaurant being quite busy.This is a friendly, very good restaurant with very good food and service.Highly recommended

I cant recommend this place enough. The food was off the charts! I had the chicken pot pie and it was simply the best I ever had, the fries that came with it was a bit boring in my opinion, I think hand cut fries would have been a better choice than skinny fries.From the time we set foot in the place we were greeted by super friendly faces and the service was simply outstanding. I will go back again and again.

Amazing dishes served in a building with a rich heritage (the battle of Blaauwberg started in front of the Damhuis). The lady who served us was a wealth of information on the culinary and historical wealth of the Damhuis. The building dates back to 1785 with wale bones embedded in the walls, the cuisine is modern and bursting with flavour. Well worth the hour drive from Cape Town. Book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Star of the evening was Shona, our waitress. Great rapport, chatty, authentic and bent over backwards to accommodate our last minute changes. We arrived without a booking and were seated in the covered tent area. Inside is a smaller area, more intimate with fire place. Booking is essential. I was not that impressed with my calamari dish, a bit rubbery and lacked taste. My wife loved her calamari and the hake which was added. A taste of the hake confirmed that it was good. They have an extensive menu and great selection of wines by the glass.

Damhuis is always a good option for a family outing with (small) kids - as long as its a nice day and you can sit outside in the play area. The kids love playing in the sand and on the pirate boat and slide. They have a lot of great options on the menu and the food is generally very good (although weve had some disappointing dishes like dry lamb shank and seafood stew with almost no seafood in the past). Beware that breakfast portions are very small (Im hungry every time after), yet on average about R90 - so not a cheap breakfast.) Good wine list, good service. Food has been hit and miss for us.

The setting is stunning, the views are awesome. The food was delicious. I had calamari strips, wow, this was so soft and tasty. I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. They have a wide variety of food on the menu. The service was efficient.

Service? Waiters very friendly Waiters ask to much is everything okay, make sure it is instead of asking every 5 minutes.! I travelled a lot, the most waiters should see if customers are happy until they call. Experienced & trained waiters should be good. Our recent visit the chef burned the chocolate fondant. I did not complain. Waiter said 7min, asked again took more like 27min. Just thinking the desert are very pricey but delicious and clients already pay a lot of money for all food & drink. Keep a good business going. Keep all customers satisfied. Economy tuff as we all now it. Restaurant otherwise very nice, will visit again😁😊great atmosphere

Wonderful location many seating options, food was presented well and very generous portions (I could not finish my pasta napolitana by virtue of its size) and I enjoyed the ambience. However, I was a bit disappointed with the food, my partner ordered the lamb shank, and found it tough - it didnt fall off the bone. My pasta was bland - the sauce had a strong tomato paste flavour, and also would have preferred a little chili. I will add that the parmesan tasted like parmigiano reggiano (the really good stuff!). The desserts were fantastic! No pics because I devoured it - I had the cake of the day (carrot) and my partner had the chocolate fondant (gorgeous). Our waiter, Lookie, was fantastic and took great care of us. I will definitely return, and perhaps try different menu items.

Catch of the day always good, pork belly super delicious and the white wine sauce mussels amazing!Make sure you leave room for dessert as they are unbelievable :)I cant recommend this place enough, you wont be disappointed.

Wow really good food and top notch staff and service

Had a fantastic experience! The food was superb! The atmosphere was wonderful. We pre-booked, but found on arrival that the incorrect menu was presented. This was sorted out within minutes by the manager and we were presented with new printed menus. A slight negative was when we requested water. Was presented with horrible water, which the waitress said was borehole water....She then returned and said it was reverse osmosis water. Disgusting! Please offer us the choice of bottled water.
