We were on our way to do outdoor research on seabirds in extreme weather conditions on a remote island called Gough for a year. Due to unforseen circumstances I didnt receive a piece of my ESSENTIAL KIT, a rain jacket! I phoned up drifters, who delivered one right at the vessel as we were about to depart! Great sales people!!! They are super knowledgeable and made shopping there a really pleasurable experience. I went there to buy an expensive osprey backpack and they were just wonderful. Zee and another guy whose name I cant remember gave me such a brilliant breakdown on the specs of the bag, how to adjust straps and detail on all of the features. It felt more like talking to a friend who knows a lot more. Thank you for making drifters my primary go to store for hiking stuff 😊 (also a good variety of products, incl international brands)

Thank you Helmut for advising the La Sportiva Tx5 boots. They are a truly amazing combination of ankle and heel support with the flexibility of a takkie once they had softened up. The foot support really only kicks in when carrying a pack so people should test them with a pack on. And they grip like fly feet. They certainly passed the test on the Tsitsikamma 😊

Went there to buy my son a pair of Jim Green hiking boots. What fantastic service a guy called Helmut explained to my son everything about the boots, how to break them in, care for them etc and assisted with getting the right size. The shop reminded me a lot of what the original Cape Union Mart was like when I was a kid and my father took me there for my first pair of proper leather boots.

Excellent service from people who know and clearly use the products. Highly recommended and I will drive the 40km to spend my money at Drifters. We can walk and hike again so its worth getting the best advice in town to get the most from your experience outdoors!

Huge range of adventure and camping gear. Staff were very knowledgeable although might have been too hard sellers. I can appreciate that as much as it’s not so comfortable. The main downfall was the price, everything is a lot more than other camping stores.

Nice shop, the staff is friendly and know their product. They have a wide variety of outdoor and sporting equipment, even cotton toe socks, which I have not seen anywhere else in South Africa. When Im in the area I will visit again and can recommend this shop.

There is a special runing

Not being much of an outdoors person myself, i simply went looking for a magnetic compass for spatial orientation and was very impressed with what i saw. I found my compass in a selection of about 15 different models and after perusing the shop contents for about an hour, decided that this is where i will go first should i need any semi-specialist equipment for camping, climbing, running or hiking.

Whowhooooo!!!! What a shop ! Every outdoor thing you ever wanted and much much more. As a friend said, while we were shopping there, pointing to yet another wonderful item “What do I have to do to justify buying that .?” Love it ! The staff are helpful and understand their products.

I needed gas for the burner. There were several kinds. I bought some more on trifles. Recommend!
