Just 4km off the N1 highway in Mangaung is the Mugg & Bean. Mangaung means place of cheetahs in Setswana. We stopped for breakfast during a 8hr road trip from Lady Frere back to Johannesburg. It’s an “On the Go” version of the restaurant in Bloemfontein - the City of Roses because of how widely roses grow here and the roses festival that is held annually.The restaurant is clean, neat and cozy. It’s attached to the Total garage but doesn’t feel like it. You forget about the fuel station. The service is friendly. We were offered sanitizer and our temperatures checked as part of COVID 19 safety protocols.The restaurants has about +/- 20 tables indoors and outdoors. There are families and locals, not just travelers. You get to eat to mellow music which is relaxing. There is also free wifi.We had the famous bran and carrot muffin which comes with cheddar, butter and jam. Yum. The decaf was beautifully presented. The breakfast was fair, straight forward. Nothing memorable. We wished there were more livers and flavour in the sauce. Thank you enough lemons in the hot water.

Mugg and Bean keeping to the good name that we trust and know! Great service from Mr Zulu and was a great way to start the Sunday morning. Lovely small outside eating area, but gets bit hot by 11. Inside has a lovely air con that we moved inside for. Thats Mugg and Bean for the good service and meal.

Always loved the food and still do but my rating has changed as the prices have gone up the pieces of cake have become smaller and smaller. I treat my family to a piece of M&B cake now again but at R55 for such a tiny piece its just not worth it any more. Still get 3 stars for great taste.

Bottomless Coffee and a lemon meringue, perfect!

Mug and bean has some of the best food and the cake is the best in the city trippel chocolate mouse and the baked cheesecake is the best. When you eat it you will never like a another cake again. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It is the perfect place to work and relax at the same time. They have a wide variety of foods and beverages for everyone.

This is the second time Ive received terrible service here (and I think Ive only been here 3 times). I know my wife loves Mugg&Beans toasted chicken&mayo sandwich (which are apparently normally very big) so I decided to bring her one for her lunch today. Im greeted by someone who doesnt ask me how Im doing but rather tells me hes just woken up and is feeling exhausted and doesnt really look very motivated to help me. I ask for 2 toasted chicken-mayo sandwiches and am surprised that he had it ready so quick; the packet looked a bit small and when I gave him R100 (the normal price) he asked whether I could make it R150 and give him R50 tip... When we opened up our tiny sandwiches we were very disappointed to find our dry sandwiches filled with lettuce and almost no chicken. I believe in second chances, this was this M&Bs second chance for me. Look at the photo and ask yourself, is this worth R50.

I love the menu and service. No hassle about the time you spend in the restaurant. No problem if you want to share portions. Drinks are excellent.

Bad experience, waiter was not friendly, ordered bottomless ice tea. Was only refilled when requested 2 times. Buttermilk fried chicken was mostly fried dough.

I love to have my meals here, because they have a great car wash whose rates are lower than most in the city. The staff both in the restaurant and in the car wash are very friendly and one looks forward to have them assist one

Had the bottomless ginger cherry someting drink. Breatfast I ordered was well prepared and the condiments were perfect. I stayed quite a while as I spent the day working there. Wish I can work from there everyday. Waiter looked was on point and looked well after me. Washed my car in the meantime as well. Great job team M&B.
