What an amazing experience this was. We were made to feel right at home Alison and her family really looked after us . We had an amazing time in Swellendam but I also think staying hear really made our trip amazing. Our accommodation was perfect and everything was well thought of , toys for the kids. Also the food was amazing and the menu changed daily .
One of the greatest hotels I have ever stayed at. I would give this place a 15 out of 5 but the numbers cant go that high. If you have plans to come to this town you should immediately get a room here. The finest breakfast with the greatest most friendliest service. The rooms have a excellent presentation. Come here definitely!
Wonderful and carefully considered country hotel. The details really make your stay! Breakfast was excellent and I loved coming home in the evening to a lit fire and hot water bottles in the bed.
There is no substitute for a hotel owner that cares and wants to ge every detail right. We loved staying here and all the little touches that go into their offering: hot water bottles in your bed at night, a wash for your car before departure and many more. Also: the breakfast is as good as people say. Five star country hotel.

The location is breathtaking, the hotel is of outstanding standard, rich of history, and well looked after.We were enchanted by the numerous details that made our stay unforgettable: welcome tea on arrival, luggage service, fireplace on as we came back from dining out, warm water bottles under the duvet and the little chocolate truffles on the bedside table... only to name a few.The 3-course breakfast in the conservatory was to die for. It is not often that you get treated like absolute royalty while at the same time have a feeling of being at home and treated like family.Alison and the wonderful team at Schoone Oordt has this down to the T. My wife and I spent a few nights there and can say that it was one of the best experiences in a long time.The rooms were amazing, the views were great, the food was top class and the service from even before we arrived to the moment we left was wonderful. I dont think there are enough adjectives to describe the experience there.Thank you Alison and kids and everyone at Schoone Oordt for the great time. We will see you again.

My husband and I stayed with our two-year old daughter and had the most fantastic evening - the restaurant is well worth a visit in itself, and the staff was lovely. We loved being greeted with tea and scones, and the house is perfectly located for an evening stroll or a morning run in historic Swellendam. Finally, the garden is perfect for little ones to play in, but spaces feel separated enough that I would also recommend this for a couple weekend.
Perfect ! It is a wonderful place, we had a great room, the food was delicious and homemade, the owners were very kind and helpful and their staff was very respectful and friendly ! We will book again this place for sure and we will recommend it to all our friends and family ! The really best place to stay in Swellendam, a real gem !

Beautiful venue with friendly staff.
From the moment we arrived we were greeted with very friendly service. Taken straight to our rooms and and to check in later. What a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The bathroom is large and will equipped. We booked 2 rooms. Both rooms were very large and have all the comforts you would expect. The bed was firm with very high quality linens. There is a large pool with lounges all around. I look forward to staying here again.
In the brochure they mention that they aim to make you feel like youre staying with the best of friends, which is a lovely aim in and of itself, and I must say they nailed it. From the start, Alison and her staff go out of their way to welcome you with open arms, you are treated spectacularly well. The rooms are gorgeous, beautifully decorated and incredibly comfortable, going above and beyond to cater to your every need. The turn down service in the evening includes a little card saying good night, sweet dreams as well as the weather forecast for the next day and some chocolates. Absolutely delightful. The dining room is beautiful and the attention to detail in the presentation of the food is lovely. Special attention is made to have locally sourced and homemade produce which is admirable. Would highly recommend this accommodation.

Schoone Oordt is the definition of 5* service. Alison and her team really go out of their way to attend to every request. From finding a massuese last minute, to making me a packed lunch for my hike, literaly no request was too great. There are so many five star establishments out there, having stayed in many of these, Schoone Ordt is at the top of its league and encourage anyone planning a visit to Swellendam to make Schoone Ordt their first choice.

This is a beautiful country inn. The staff are very friendly, the accommodations very good, and the property is beautiful. It has a cozy yet sophisticated feel which is a rare combination. Very quiet. The dining room is also open for dinner reservations, and while dinner isnt included, the prices are very reasonable and the food is excellent.

This is a lovely boutique hotel in the middle of nowhere in sleepy Swellendam. We loved the style of the architecture and the cosiness of the place right away. Our host, Ian (pardon the misspelling), was extremely friendly and helpful during our stay. We were given the spacious and luxurious honeymoon suite away from other guests. Our bedroom was almost as big as our London flat! The garden was nicely maintained and all members of staff extremely friendly! We especially liked chatting with our waiter at their restaurant, over dinner. It is incredible how everybody was making our stay seamless and enjoyable! The food and the wine we had for dinner were great, made with fresh produce, and had great taste! Our breakfast the next day, by the window, in the sun, was lovely! We highly recommend people going down (or up) the garden route to make a stop there! And for whoever likes running and trekking, do NOT miss the trail in the Marloth natural reserve behind the hotel, the view is amazing! And it is free to enter if you stay along the bottom trail! Otherwise you need 2 ZAR.

This team makes sure that you have a great experience and their breakfast and afternoon tea is out of this world! They exceeded our expectations on all levels and its rare to find a team like this! The rooms was cleaned several times a day and from the welcome, the chocolates at turn in, the beautiful fireplace in our room and the morning welcomes we enjoyed every moment!
A really good hotel with fantastic rooms and service levels. The restaurant is also top notch. My kids love the dogs. We stayed in the family unit that was tucked away in a corner of the property, probably the best room on the property ;) (hint hint)
Schoone Oordt is a must - both for a few days on your Garden Route road trip or as a destination in itself. The hotel is restored with so much love and a real eye for detail and the rooms are luxurious, quiet and comfortable. The food is exceptionally good and when you feel like eating out elsewhere there are a lot of options in the quaint town of Swellendam. I also booked a massage at nearby Rain Forest Spa and was really impressed with the experience. All in all, a great place to unwind, readjust and re-inspire yourself.

I would come back to South Africa only for this hotel, it is simply amazing! From the moment you step into the main house, you feel at home. the staff goes the extra mile and welcomes you with fresh juices and homemade cake and cookies. The rooms are super cozy with a fireplace and a lovely bathroom with an old-style bathtub and a great walk-in shower. All meals are served in type of a winter garden room, so beautiful, with fresh seasonal and local cuisine. You get so much pampered that you dont want to leave anymore. When travelling the Garden Route we had to come back on our way back to Capetown! Thank you to the lovely staff members who made our stay simply unforgettable.

Schoone Oordt is a beautiful country house furnished with beautiful antiques blended with all the comforts of modern life. The service was spectacular, the staff were friendly and always there to predict what you may need before you know it yourself!The room was clean and beautifully laid out and the bathroom with shower, big bath tub and double sink was my favourite feature. I loved going to bed after eating a scrumptious meal in the Conservatory to find my bed welcoming me with a hot water bottle tucked inside.Sonette and Wander came to check in with us at breakfast and dinner to see how we were enjoying our stay. I found the whole experience to be lovely and can recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Swellendam.

I really meant to write this review straightaway as I was so excited by my new find. It is now a couple of months later, but my first impressions have not changed a bit. We decided to stay at Schoone Oordt as a stopover on our way to the Karoo, but wished we had stayed a few days. It is truly a hidden gem- a meticulously restored Victorian Homestead and so tastefully decorated. The setting is so tranquil- beautiful gardens and pool area, luxurious elegance and attention to detail. The staff - especially Sonet and Wander make you feel so welcome- it is genuine you can feel it comes from the heart.
Fidiny is amazing! He made our stay truly memorable and was so incredibly friendly! We went in the Fall so it wasnt busy at all but they told us they book up well in advance during Spring and Summer so book now! The service was just so great throughout the whole process and our entire stay. Theyd make a fire for us in our room while we were at dinner, got to know us as individuals and truly made us feel welcomed and special. If youre going anywhere near Swellendam, this is the place to stay and is close to a lot of major attractions and areas!

Schoone Oordt is everything that a country hotel should be; comfortable, warm, characterful and hosted by highly attentive yet unassuming staff who give you just the right amount of attention. The love that the owners have poured into this renovation of an old Victorian classic is evident everywhere and their attention to detail is unfaltering. We were lucky enough to enjoy the light, airy and well heated honeymoon suite for 2 nights and ate dinner in the conservatory on one of them. The chef is highly skilled and offers a wonderfully uncomplicated yet modern interpretation of country cooking. We ate out the second night in a very good restaurant nearby but missed the comfort of the huge lounge and fireplace so much that we went back early to enjoy dessert in front of the fire place. If you are either too foolish or too unlucky to eat dinner at Schoone Oordt then you can still enjoy their extraordinary breakfasts, catered with the same flair and finesse as dinner. Any enquiry placed at reception is always greeted with both information and an offer to arrange things on your behalf and the positioning of the property is within walking distance of most of the towns historic sites and local eateries. We struggled to leave this beautiful place.

I intended staying for one night and ended up cancelling all my travel plans so that I could stay for just one more. I arrived at 2pm on Saturday 2 May, just in time for afternoon tea. I was welcomed and shown around by Fidney, an absolute treasure. Then I met the manager, Sonette who very soon questioned my original plan to stay a mere one night. My room (no.8) was exquisite. I adore vintage buildings and decor and was enthralled with the attention to detail. I even had a fireplace in my room with a stack of wood to burn all night if I so wished. The bathroom had a victorian bath and a huge open plan shower. The hotels Husky, named Shadow, was loaned to me for my Sunday morning run, one of the many highlights of my stay. Shadow guided me along unknown backroads that led me to breathtaking views of the mountains. Breakfast was a three course work of art .. that in itself worth staying an extra week longer, not just a day. Guaranteed to be different each morning. Thank you to Schoone Oordt for the memorable stay in your beautiful establishment. Thank you to your amazing staff for the warmth and welcome I received.
We spent Saturday night 22 March 2014 at Schoone Oordt Country House. We were heartily welcomed by the owner , Alison Walker, who went out of her way to ensure we had welcoming cooldrinks and snacks. She truly is a lovely , warm person and made all of us feel at home right from the start. Schoone Oordt Country House exceded our expectations by far. We stayed in the family cottage - the entire place is spotless , 10/10 for cleanliness ,the grounds are very well cared for and well-maintained. All the staffmembers are friendly and always ready to assist. The food was really exceptional . We met Sonette as we checked out and she is such a warm person too. The owners should be proud of themselves because this is an establishment that really deserves a rating higher than 5 STARS!!!!!!! We loved Shadow!!!!

This was our second time at Schoone Oordt Country House and we were as thrilled as we were the year before. Large, comfortably furnished room with large, very nice bathroom, equipped with everything you could wish for. To mention would also be the really good beds. Great service, delicious breakfast (absolutely the best in our 6 accommodations). A 3 course dinner in the evening, with very good wine, is of the highest quality and highly recommended. We look forward to seeing all the friendly and nice people who make the house what it is.

General Manager Ian is very accommodating and authentic. Despite the proximity to the street it was very quiet at night. In the morning a 3 course breakfast is waiting to be enjoyed. Fresh o juice, of course. The dinner was very good too. The rooms are rustic but nice. The service is unique. In the rain, an open umbrella was waiting outside our door. Only the pool could be freed from insects more often. All in all (bks dato) our best stay in SA.
