What a classy experience. Soweto has a star restaurant on the famous Vilakazi Street. A great place for sundowners on the upstairs balcony while people watching. And awesome food, both western and indigenous South African food. The plates, the glasses, the cutlery, no detail was spared.

Absolutely fabulous. The food was really really good. Ordered the steak and it was so good . One friend ordered the burger with the loaded fries. The others ordered the seafood pasta. They all agreed it was the best pasta they had had in a while. Service from Zama was absolutely on point

One of thee most soulful spaces ever. As a family we decided to take our Capetonian Mother for a Soweto great vibes outing.1947 is home , feels homely and the food is soulful. Great serviceGreat energy vibes. More likely to spot someone you know or have not seen in a while.Great inclusion and amazing safety. One of the very few spaces I feel safe , included and respected.The steamed bread will make you forego Banting for a day.The tripe, trotters thee soulful recipe.The desserts are a meal to start with - life is short eat dessert first.

I would like to appreciate 1947 on Vilakazi. The owner(Lele), management(Enerst) and staff for hosting a bridal shower with us at their beautiful venue. The attention from the manager to the chef was great from the organizing leading to 19th September 2021. The private room is just that private with a designated waiter Wayne who was attentive and kind. The food is always scrumptious and well presented. We had a wonderful celebration and have beautiful pictures as evidence. Thank you!

Brilliant; even during load shedding we were catered to, very well. Service was fantastic (ask for Zama when youre there), everyones food was cooked extremely well even though there was a limited menu due to load shedding. The wine selection was also very impressive. Well certainly be back.

My experience was disappointing to say the least. I had made a reservation on 2/10/2021 for my sisters birthday for the following Sunday, for 12 people in the private room. Availability was confirmed for the day and consequently a booking fee paid. The day before the event I received a call from one of the managers informing me that the room was double booked and that they can only accommodate us in the cigar lounge, that can hardly accommodate a six seater table. You can imagine, my sister and my day was ruined as we were looking forward on experiencing the raving reviews on the exquisite food and fantastic ambience but also supporting our local business; but all that was tarnished.1947, please clarify how do you double book events and then inform the party concerned the day before the event? 1947 you have lost out on potential customers.

The ambiance is really welcoming. Felt like home.Authentic traditional soup food as well as a wide selection of quality wines at good prices.

Terrible service!!! 🚮 I was there on the 5th of September 2021. Upon our arrival, we had to look for our own sitting place since no waiter cared to assist us. They just stood and looked at us. About 20 minutes later one decided to bring us the menu and left. The people opposite our table who seemed to be, ballers were the only ones waiters cared for. Whenever they came to that table wed call hoping for assistance but they all either looked away or said they are coming but didnt. When we finally got a waiter to take our order, they took the wrong order 🤦🏽‍♀️ when they finally brought the correct order, they gave me cake without any eating utensils, I wasnt even given any teaspoon for my cappuccino or any sugar 😒 after waiting almost an hour for it. When I asked for water from one of the waiters, they gave me an EMPTY GLASS! 😑 It really felt like a prank, not to mention that when we wanted to leave and asked for the bill, THEY GAVE US THE WRONG BILL 🚮 Clearly one needs to look a certain way to receive any form of assistance. I honestly wouldnt recommend this place, beautiful as it is, it has poor service and the food was not great either 🚮

The food was great. Then there’s a guy by the of Zama, when you get there ask for Zama. You will have the best experience 💯

This is by far the best establishment Ive experienced based in the township, the place is clean, the interior decor is on point, But my highlight was the food absolutely DELICIOUS 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
