Good vibe, nice view and friendly service. The bar looked like the place to be... I would have liked more see food options, since Saldanha is also a fishers dorp. The kids enjoyed the playroom. Not cheap, but not overly expensive.

Drove from cape-town to have the famous bar one milkshake and had to send it back as it was I think a glass of milk with a few pieces of chocolate in. Sent it back and then got what I came for. The famous BAR ONE milkshake. Nothing like it in cape Town if it is a made right from the start

So to be honest they have changed owners in the past few months. However this does not excuse bad service or food. The bar is operated by lovely gentleman that are very good at their jobs. The waiters tending to the restaurant are another matter. Taking over 20 minutes to realise we were there, us having to wave them down and then being met with bad attitudes. They stand around chatting to each other and rarely attend to the tables. The food used to be excellent and now it is just sub par. The calamari was prepared from deep frozen, that is not the problem, it was just rather cold still, and the batter failed to stick to the pieces. The chips were full of oil. I used to love this place and come here every 2 months or so. I really do hope they step up to aspire to something better. Will revise this review on my next visit depending on the experience.

Fabulous views, indoor and outdoor seating. Good service and good food. Casual atmosphere and menu offering standard local fair. Schnitzels, burgers, steaks, baskets, pizza etc. Breakfast has no cut off time, which is very convenient. Reasonably priced. Pleasant experience.

What a wonderful, friendly restaurant. Had an amazing day celebrating my fiancée fathers 60th birthday! From the fresh sushi to the delectable party platters on offer the only thing better than the food was the refreshingly friendly service from our waitresses. She went above and beyond to make sure our experience was nothing short of 5 star treatment. If you find yourself in the area and feel like something special then give this restaurant a try, you wont be disappointed 😉. Food 8/10, service 10/10, atmosphere 9/10. Just beware of the jalapeño poppers, they are HOT!!🔥😊

My son who now resides in Saldanha took us to the restaurant the past Saturday afternoon. They took us upstairs to the open balcony and sat us down. A waitress gave us menus used at another table without cleaning it. We kindly requested her to have it cleaned. She left but cont. to serve the other guest. After a long while we just decided to leave and go to another Restaurant. Was not a good experience at all. Will not recommend the place to anyone. We went to Charlies Brewhouse, Port Owen. This restaurant is on another level. Service and food excellent. Staff great. Will recommend the place to all my friends and family.

Its not close by, but if you around Saldahna area, you should have this on your list. Fantastic food, large portions so be sure to have plenty of room. Not a wheelchair friendly place being up high from the road. Good drinks selection. Can sit both outside inside and inside.

The revamp look very nice. They have an amazing special on VAT69 whiskey. You can buy a sealed bottel and keep it at your table. You also get soda water. You dont have to finish the bottle. You put your name on the bottle and mark the level and then go back whenever you like to drink it.

Service was lil slow and other customers even left after waiting to long for food. Food was good tho.

Horrible Service - We went for lunch to Captains Cabin and, what a disappointment it has been. We waited for half an hour without any service. Waiters just ignored us. We sat on the top deck and, I saw 2 waiters working in that area.What was particularly annoying was that one of the waiters opted to serve people that arrived later. We sat right at the door so it was impossible for them to miss us…but one of the waiters decided to serve a larger table of 6 people instead of our table of 4 people. Both waiters walked pass our table multiple times and just ignored us.It’s not the first time we had a bad experience on the top deck. It’s almost as if there are not enough waiters. I don’t know.

Visited the establishment on Wednesday 16 as a culmination of a sightseeing trip on the west coast. I had the hake and chips, my husband had the seafood potjie and I took home the seafood pasta for my son. On my way home to Ceres I started feeling nauseaus and ended up chucking up everything I ate while driving the car. My husband couldnt even eat the the seafood potjie which was glutenous mess which wasinedible and my son had diarrhea for the best part of the week. The only conclusion I can come to is that we hwas served food that was off.It was adissapointing experience as this we always end up visiting this establishment when we are in the area. This for the past more than 20 years.

We had heard about this spot for a while and finally got a chance to try it. It was okay. We had just a simple lunch, with some fish and chips, jalapeño poppers and sushi. The breading on the fish and jalapeños was not great, the poppers were obviously not fresh and just frozen poppers. The fish was okay, but honestly Fishaways is better. The sushi was disappointing. VERY small portion sizes, with very little fish and far too much mayo. All in all nothing tasted bad, but nothing was particularly good. Im sure its a fine spot for drinks, but as far as what we ate, I wouldnt recommend.

Had visited Captains before. BUT somethings wrong.. from excellent 5star food and service to very low 2star. Waited for 30minutes before attended to.. our starters was not ready.. after we enjoyed the main. We own a guest house and always recommended our guests to Captains.. but our the latest experience will surely have a impact.

The food here is excellent! Would really recommend trying if you have never been.

Captains is our favorite get together destination! Maryna is an amazing waitress. She is always friendly and gives fantastic service. We need more waitresses like her. The food and drinks are always great. This is definitely our favorite place to gather and have a good time.

Such a disappointing experience. Waited ages for our orders.Drinks came through one by one which left someone done with their drink while another is still waiting for their first one even though ordered at the same time.Same with the food. 2 of our party had received and finished their food while we were still waiting on our sushi.Waitress forgot an item and blamed us for it when we brought it up. This was however rectified with a complimentary portion of sushi since the kitchen was closed.Another waitress never put her mask over her nose, and what I’m assuming is the manager, didn’t have his mask one which made me very uncomfortable.The renovations are great for a certain crowd, however it’s not the homey dive bar it used to be if you’re looking for that.

Best chillie poppers ever

I went to this restaurant on 3 occassions in the past. So it was my obvious choice to take my friends who visited Saldanha for the first time. What a waste of time and money!! We waited 15 min before our order for our drinks were taken. My friend got her Castle immediately but myself and other friend waited more than 12 minutes for our filter coffee. Eventually I called another waitress as the one helping us was too busy. Eventually we got our hot drinks and we ordered our food when the beer was served. We waited 40 ninutes and people who ordered after our order were served around us. When our pizza arives eventually, it was burnt and tastes bad. The chicken strips were too dry.No-one even apologize for the waiting time or the burnt pizza. It was only when I sent it back that the waitress apologized. Never again... although I still think their mussels are the best. (This time it was sold out)

The food is very good, the drinks are affordable and the Captains Cabin has a great casual atmosphere. They even do karaoke with some surprisingly good local talent!BUT, every single time I have visited, 4x so far, the waitress has consistently forgotten at least 1/4 of the orders. This means that at least 1 out of every 4 people is left with an empty plate/glass and a bold faced lie while everyone else gets to enjoy their food and drink. Needless to say this completely spoils the evening if you are a larger group or celebrating a special occasion.@Captains Cabin please insist that your waiters and waitresses WRITE DOWN EVERY ORDER to solve this easily avoided issue.
