After eating at many Portuguese themed restaurants I can honestly say that 1920 is one of the better ones Ive been to, they have an authentic Portuguese menu . Food is perfectly spiced portions are generous with good value for money. Would definitely recommend it

One of my favourite restaurants, great food, fairly reasonable prices (for Sandton) great vibe. Manny the owner is a great guy and doesnt just do the perfunctory walk around asking how you are enjoying the meal. He really follows up and makes sure you are having a great time. Make sure you try the picanha

Peri Peri chicken livers was amazing as a starter,Main meal was prawns and calamari,Prawns was amazing, was only disappointed in the calamari. The calamari was over kooked (burned) and there was too much oil from the calamari.

The restaurant was very busy, but service was still good. Clam and potato dish was tasty, so was the pasta dish. Nice range of desserts too. A great Portuguese place with a wide variety of dishes for all.

Very disappointed, We went there for my birthday lunch.We had the chicken and prawns ,both were tasteless.The prawns had minimal flavor ,for birthday lunch, it was an epic fail.I never give reviews...but I was so disappointed 😞

We hadnt been in a while but tried it for a quick lunch this past weekend. Good service, great food, but very disappointing that while expecting his staff to wear masks, the manager on duty was walking around taking orders and chatting to patrons without a mask for the entire time we were there. What is the point of all the other protocols then?

We were invited by friends to this restaurant and it was an amazing experience. Portuguese cuisine, portuguese flavors and scents... I went for the traditional Caldeirada de Peixe (Fish Stew), It was delicious... and my friend managed to ask for an extra: 3 prawns on it... my wife, my sister in law and my friends wife they went for the Prawn Curry, it looked very good. My brother in law had the classic Bife à Portuguesa (Steak a la Portuguese).All dishes were prepared while we waited. The service is very good, very good personell, very professional and friendly. One of them actually, from Mozambique, approached the table to say Hi in Portuguese. The Menu is vast and hard to choose... all dishes are desirable... without forgetting the deserts... I had Arrôs Dôce (Rice Pudding) a portuguese delicacy. Good portuguese wines, vast choice between prices and quality... The restaurant was crowded/full. I suggest a reservation before you try it. If you like Portuguese food, here you will be home. We loved it, we will go back... Well done.

Had a fantastic positive experience at this brand new restaurant in Hutton Court on Jan Smuts in Hydepark. Authentic Portuguese cooking and a menu offering you a wide variety of tasty dishes. Service was good and the owner gave us personal attention and explained the specials and some of the other dishes on the menu. Spending time there with friends, drinking Vino Verde in an atmosphere reminding one very much of an upmarket restaurant in Lisbon, was a good fun. We enjoyed the terrace area being even more informal than inside. We will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes. The restaurant is unfortunately not yet showing on Google Maps and they do have problems with their phone lines. Remember to book in advance for they are quite popular. Go and find out for yourself.

You can buy chicken anywhere, but this chicken was exceptional.The prawns were good.The steak was as good as any steakhouse.The place was packed, showing the quality of the food, but might make those worried about Corona a fraction uneasy. We were in the outside section.

Disappointed my temperature wasn’t taken before being admitted and no one at the door to check whether we’d used the sanitizer. Also not sure whether tables were sanitized as already laid. Our food was excellent and our waiter was efficient - nothing was too much trouble. Deserves 5 stars if Covid was not around.

Awesome food!!

I have been here many times and have never had a bad meal. It goes without saying that their chicken and prawns are tasty, but they also nail a few more dishes that other Portuguese restaurants dont, like the trinchado and the espetada (tip: have milho frito as your espetada side). Their seafood hotpot is beyond delicious and I highly recommend the Porco a Alentejana, the meat is so tender and the sauce, divine. They have a good Portuguese wine list and it is essential that you book as they are often to capacity, especially in the evenings.

Very popular MADEIRA style restaurant, need to make reservations. The meal we had was reasonably priced . The owner Manny is the only order taker and has the full knowledge of the menu. His wife Paula is a hands on chef and the plates are well balanced meals.The wines are all from Portugal and reasonably priced. Very enjoyable evening .Thank you.

The worst service Ive ever experienced at a restaurant, Our waiter was new. knew nothing and was not supported, We discovered the specials after we had finished some average but expensive food. We were told there were no deserts until we discovered these were also specials (off menu). The best the owner/manager could do was to offer better service next time.
