What a pleasure to have a genuine French Bistro right here in Joburg. Our family eats here regularly and enjoy the ever changing seasonal menu and the unpretentious and homely atmosphere.

Amazing banting lamb burger.

In the increasingly popular Linden hub there has been few choices for a good cocktail on a warm day. Tonic provides just that. A menu of gin cocktails and g&ts is complemented by a small plates menu that is a perfect snack to accompany your drink. The space is next to A la Bouffe and shares the same kitchen. Service is a little slow but that should improve with a bit of experience. Well be back!

The first time we ate here the food was excellent, but once the restaurant started to get a little busy, the service very quickly deteriorated to the point where one of our courses was completely skipped. We have since been back, and once again, the food was exquisite. This time we received flawless service from our waitress, and she was very helpful in suggesting good dessert options. You should definitely give this place a try.

Their ever changing menu means a different dining experience each time. Great French food packed with flavour. This intimate venue is ideal for a romantic evening or a casual dinner. Our little piece of Paris in the middle of Linden.

We have been to A la Bouffe on many occasions and on each occasion we were not disappointed. If you want good well prepared French fare, then this is the place! Even though we often have a 3 course meal, we never leave feeling uncomfortable! 😀 And that says a lot! The chef prepares well balance french fare that is fine dining at its best. The prices are reasonable too. 4.5 is how I rate A la Bouffe.

Wonderfully peaceful and quiet ambience. One can actually have a conversation without having to compete with loud music. The food was absolutely delicious, like something out of Masterchef. One can taste that the chef has worked in restaurants with Michelin stars.

Food is exquisite and portion more than satisfying. A true treat and well worth the cost. Drinks were somewhat overpriced and the service definitely left us wanting - for instance we had barely dug into our starters when the mains were served. If you are going, the food is what you should focus on.

Very nice menu and the French onion soup is definitely worth a try. The menu is well priced and the restaurant has a good atmosphere.

The service is excellent and the food is even better. The lamb shoulder will melt in your mouth, definitely somewhere I would go again and recommend for anyone who loves good food!

I am 55 years old.I have eaten at restuarants & dives all over the Earth we live on & seldom found it necessary to warn anyone against going there.I have eaten from ratpacks in a warzone & would rather do so again than sit in this place & be subjected to the lack of culinary skill, lack of interest, lack of ambiance.....guys go do something else outside the restuarant industry please!

Good tasty french style food for a South African restuarant

Food and service very average (despite being recommended this place). Atmosphere also lacking.

After reading this was a Michelin starred chef we went to A la Bouffe with great expectations. For mains I had Toulouse sausage on lentils, really not a combination that spoke to my taste buds, and the Toulouse sausage uncannily resembled boerewors made with pork, so imagine boerewors on a bed of semi-hard lentils, thats it. My husband had sirloin, and our own home cooked sirloin marinated in balsamic and cooked on the barbecue tastes much better! Then came the desert of Créme brûleè. When I sent my spoon down for that wonderful crack of the brûleè and dipping into the soft cool crème below I was completely let down. My spoon got stuck in a sticky toffee, it could not crack through, there was no crack, I pulled the spoon up and the sticky toffee came along. The crème underneath was hot instead of cool. What a huge disappointment! Makes me wonder if there are truly Michelin stars involved here or is the King walking naked again? This restaurant is not seeing us again! Must add though the starter of Chicken liver parfait was very good, therefore I give it 2 stars instead of just 1.

My moms 88th birthday celebration was held here on the 9th September. The service was appalling. It took for ever for the food to arrive and when my moms steak arrived it had a grey look to it and underneath it had soggy overcooked beans. Michelin star chef??? Was he in leave???
