Definitely an interesting experience with the kids. This fort is one of the restores and neatest forts in Pretoria.Has great history, displays and lots of information to share with the visitors.Has an old ammunition room with wide variety of guns on display from Lee Anfield, Mauser, Martini & Henry and various bullets.Huge Canons outside Creusot Canon 150mm and 2 x 37mm. Also a 37mm Maxim Norden veldt Canon.Displays for the kitchen with glass and utensils from the time and even uniforms. There is even an old tramshed and steam engine on display. To out surprise their is even a braai area where you can picnic. Unfortunately no restaurant or shop on site, so make sure to pack water and everything you need. There are public toilets.Everything is outdoors so wear comfortable shoes and hats and dont forget sunblock. It was reactively affordable to go inside R25 per adult and less than that per kid. Open weekends 9am to 5pm. Not sure about weekdays.
Well looked afterGreat photo opportunitys
Worth a visit, the kids enjoyed it!
So want to show my kids but some how everytime I come here it is closed, this time it was Easter weekend and they close the entire weekend. Google only says good Friday but when you get to the gate you find a note stuck to the gate. Its really unreliable with its open times this is now the third time we have tried and been turned away at the gate.
Fort Klapperkop was the third fort erected before the outbreak of the Anglo-Boer War (1899–1902) to protect Pretoria. It has been restored with historical accuracy and arranged as a museum, with permanent exhibitions of Anglo-Boer War objects and furniture. The fort has the following rooms: Ammunitie, Hospitaal, Keuken, Machine, Telegraaf, Stal and Manschappen.
Historic location from where Pretoria can be seen from above. Breathtaking sun rises and very nice running trails to enjoy with your friends.
Good place to see. But I expected more
Lovely view of the city!
What an interesting place to visit and the views over Pretoria are outstanding
Beautiful views over Pretoria East.
Well worth the visit. We got here by accident and found it to be really interesting. Certainly gives one food for thought.
They did not update their webpage to say that they are closed for a period in December. We could not enter, was very dissapointing.
I use to go here to see the beautiful scenery from of Pretoria great views. Great history and greet place for bikes and running just not too safe alone. I would go on a group or groups. Lovely and interesting history here just the safety is abit worrying. Otherwise its worth the visit. Beautiful Pretoria
Great place to visit. Clean and in good condition.
Well maintained. Thank you
Restored 19th-century fort with exhibits on the Anglo-Boer War, weapons & various artifacts.
Awesome place for site seeing, place also has Zebras. See some areas in Pretoria from this high spot. Enjoyed the air and twisty road with canvas dropped. Thank God for added security to scare thugs away. Oh entrance was free.
Beautiful views, but none of the promised security noticible at the gates or in the reserve. The fort and museum are closed for the holiday season and reopen on 7 January. Not to sure if the other museums in the city are also closed for the tourism season.
Nicely maintained. Wish there was a guide to offer more info about this side... theres more interesting facts about this place and others like it around Pretoria
I loved this place. It brought back memories of my childhood. All the wildlife (zebras, etc.) made it an unforgetable experience! Proudly South African🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Very nice peaceful place. Beautiful views of PTA too. Got a chance to see some zebra. Perfect place for sunrise viewing, not so good for sunset viewing unless one can find a good viewing spot. Area seems pretty safe too but better safe than sorry.
A good memorial parade. Formal but informal and meaningful
Great views, security in the surrounding area outside the fort is often an issue.
This place is very beautiful it is good for people who like to get a great view on Pretoria and would just like to have an outdoor fresh air away from crowds but it can be a very dangerous crime hot spot if people are not careful or dont be extra cautious
I loved looking back at history and seeing what transpired years ago. The fears of our forefathers, their way of life etc.The actual monuments upkeep is excellent.
Great place to get an outdoors experience, great view of Pretoria beneath it. Good nature reserve and experience
Hey what can I say. No one preserved history better than...lolI love the lessons from the past. As humans and as Africans we lost so much in these modernizing times.thanks PTA ... What a lovely slice of heritage
Its a beautiful place to be, But very dangerous. We were attached by 3 men armed with big knives that can kill a cow. They chased us and we ran to the car, managed to get away but the other couple that was the couldnt run to their car as they were far from it. They chased them down the hill. The security guards dont have cellphones of any sense of emergency... We told them that we were almost robbed or killed they said it always happen....... it happened 22/06/2019 please dont go the... Those guys are ready to kill...
Best technical trail runs in Pretoria. Dont go alone, only in big groups
Awesome views of Pretoria, the is a 120 year old locomotive on display. The exhibits in the museum are slightly run down but nevertheless very interesting
Very interesting for those that enjoy history and war stories
Interesting place. Easy to reach with good parking. The heritage site is well maintained, many signs and explanations given. Good for a weekend trip!
Nicly renovated fort. Well kept. Very good historic educational views. Relaxing place. Bike trails. Do yourself a favour and visit this place at least once in your life.
It is a great place to learn a bit of history, well maintained and relaxing pity there is no restaurant or shop in there, but still a good outing
This is a must visit site if your touring Pretoria or looking for historical sites. Also very notable is the epic view on the public (free to access for all) road that leads to this old fort. In my opinion on this little road you will get the absolute best viewing points of the city of Pretoria. Also notable is the chance of seeing Zebra and Wildebeest(buffalo) along with other wildlife on this short road to the fort. The only negative is the danger of pickpockets and robbers... sorry to say you must not get out of your vehicle or stop for any suspicious pedestrians as this is a hotspot for muggings. But otherwise inside the fort is safe
An eighteenth century fort, still in a good condition and well maintained with picnic area with braai areas and you pay R25.00 adults and R13.00 for children, a very nice place for kiddies birthdays and for high tea venue. Do yourself a favour and visit this place, beautiful views of Tshwane can be observed while enjoying yourself.
Such a nice Scenic place, but not safe anymore especially at night.
Awesome 1 hour spent at this well kept piece of Real South African history. Well worth the time to visit!
The fort is kept in tip top condition. The museum commemotating the Anglo Boer war is small and can be absorbed in an hour or two.Take meat with you and have a barbecue in the delightful garden with great views of Pretoria and the surrounds
A beautiful heritage sight with a wonderful view over Pretoria and terrific braai area.
History is awesome. What a experience.
Beautiful views of Pretoria. Not too crowded either. Loved it loved it.
Wonderful view, Pretoria is a well watered city from the many springs in this area. As opposed to Johannesburg which was built for gold.
Interesting history, especially if youre South African.
Well hidden museum of Afrikaaner fort set up to defend Pretoria from the British. Great views across the area.
Refreshing and tranquil its where I go to when I need some peace and recharge
A bit run down, but beautiful views
Lovely place, beautiful setting but several reports of it being unsafe
Very informative and well kept. Really enjoyed, young and old alike.
Well kept heritage site with good views of Pretoria for a quick and interesting visit
A great place for a family picnic or a kuier with friends -
Well maintained, knowledgeable people on duty. Great views over the city.
Great place to visit. Nicely kept
One of the most beautiful viewpoints in Pretoria, showing most of Pretoria including the CBD and all buildings. Good for a Sunday drive or picnic.
Lovely day out. Just call ahead to make sure they are open.
This was such a beautiful trip.
Its one of kind. Would definitely visit again.
Ok, no shop. But neat and clean.
A wonderful insight into pertinent history. A geological wonderland. A fossil treasure trove.
Great mountain biking trails. Trails may be short but they are still fun.
Interesting history just outside town. The drive there is scenic with views over Pretoria. Entrance fee is charged to visit the Fort.
The views from the fortress are great in a safe environment. The small museum is informative.
Had no idea i drove past such a cool fort everyday, well maintained.
Very cool, nice place to hike braai and chill
Very interesting Beautiful surroundings Nice spot to have a picnic
Well preserved arciteture.
Our History ..... AMAZING
Well maintained. Rich in anglo boer war history. Good picnic sites.
A must to see to enrich your knowledge and cultural background
Awesome views just don’t go at night
My brothers and sisters in Christ were there for a prayer walk. We prayed for the country and our city Tshwane. 😍
This is a well maintained part of Pretorias History
Drove all the way from the east rand to Pretoria to show family visiting from Belgium and it was closed. The didnt inform us.They made us sign in at first gate and didnt say anything and when we got up to the main gate they told us its closed and they dont know why !!!!
The Museum was closed, but the scenery is beautiful all around
Amazing heritage side, visit and get more insight.
Simple displays, but a nice morning out for a family stroll
Wonderfull place! Few people, if you managed to get there on your own. Best views on Pretoria spreaded at the foot of the Hill. Interesting museum for people who interested in Bouer War.
In good condition and is well maintained
