This is the best environmentally friendly government building I have ever visited in South Africa! The waste bins are clearly marked and divided into different categories viz paper, glass, etc. and this makes the sorting easier for recycling. The lighting is eco friendly; the ablution facilities’ lights are motion sensitive and only becomes on when there is someone in the bathroom, and automatically turn off when one leaves. There is recycled material in use, including toilet paper and water drinking cups. The garden is well maintained with what appears to be recycled water, or rain water. Nature is truly conserved, and there is eco preservation. The rating would have been a 5, but 1 point was lost because of the following two issues which need attention-1. The reception area needs attention as it does not really look inviting - but much better than in other government departments. There is a need for clear signage on where to go if you are a visitor.2. The entrance to the building also needs some signage. When one is driving in from Steve Biko street, you have to immediately swift to the extreme right so that the Security officials manning the parking entrance can open the boom gates for you. Signage is not very clear, as you only see that the Visitors entrance is on the extreme right hand side only after you have already turned into the right or middle lanes. A big Visitors Entrance signage should be made so that it is visible long before you make a turn into the building.

This department’s misguided policies and decisions are a shame to us all! They are worse than the trophy hunting degenerates they let massacre our wildlife and country. No matter how you phrase it or attempt to hide it, breeding lions and other predators in captivity to be killed in captivity will remain an unacceptable and a totally disgusting practice. It is Vital to stop all the non-conservation breeding. South Africa’s lion breeding industry makes absolutely no positive contribution to conserving lions and, indeed, further imperils them.
