We visited Onderstepoort on Friday and just wanted to share with everyone that from the time we stopped at the gate right through to the end after the doctors saw our pet the service was excellent. Its clean and they treat everyone even the animals with respect. We really recommend there services. The doctors are excellent. They even call you after 2 or 3 days to find out how your pet are doing. Thank you Onderstepoort

In a last ditch effort to see what was happening with my dog, my vet recommended Onderstepoort for a thorough medical examination. Due to it being a teaching hospital, they obviously start their analysis from scratch (not where your previous vet left off). Have we come to a clear prognosis, not yet - diagnosis is not always clear cut unfortunately. However, I really appreciated the veterinary staff on duty. I was assisted by student vet Robyn and she really took to my baby and checked in with me to let me know how shes was doing. The staff treated my baby as if she was one of their own, and for that I am forever grateful!

Absolutely Excellent. Friendly and Component people from the get go. We recently suffered the sudden Illness of our 11yrs old Labrador and the doctors, students and nursing staff at Onderstepoort went the extra mile in caring for our sick pup. I mean even the security staff was friendly.He is now back home and recovering from a week long stay in ICU where the staff took such great care of him.What i love most about this place is that your loved one gets Multiple opinions throughout their diagnoses, stay and treatment from all the staff they have rotating on duty. Who all clearly has a passion for what they do.This isnt my first time using them and every time ive wondered to myself why i ever used anyone else. Their prices are reasonable and they are always upfront with you regarding the costs and treatment plans.

What a wonderful, wonderful place! Everyone at this institute is visibly passionate about caring for animals. It was so worth the multiple 2 hour trips there and back, I think they are the best place on earth to take a sick or sore fur baby.Thank you so much for saving our boy.

Awesome service and bedside manner for my rover boy, although it took three assistants and a vet to hold him to get the blood samples he is now recovered and doing great, have just recommended onderstepoort to my work colleague, wo is on his way now with his sick puppy achillies, who his regular vet diagnosed incorrectly by first saying its flu and a day later saying its poison, and wanting to charge him 18k to book the pup in overnight, totally ridicals, apparently a vet in centurion we wont mention names , who is totaly about the money not the pet, keep it up onderstepoort well done

Took my Domestic longhair in today after she collapsed. Gave the vet on duty a description of her history. Within 5 minutes he came back with diagnosis and treatment had already started. I left half an hour later with tha animal sitting up and looking very good. She will be staying overnight for final testing. Thank you very much!!

They have operated on two dogs who slipped discs and both recovered well without being paralysed in the back legs

We have a Dashund that was treated for spinal injury last week. We are extremely please by the quality of the personal working at the hospital, being staff and students and doctors. All went well. they did a perfect job, everyone was nice polite and professional. and the costs compare to private practises that are pushing to milk clients is extremely competitive. i can only recommend this vet hospital and we will definitively use them in the future even if we live at more than an hour drive from there. thanks guys. it was a pleasure to discover you !

Veterinary Dr and students were awesome and very caring.

On TWO occasions during November 2019, we were kept waiting unacceptably long times, despite making appointments.(The service is generally frustratingly slow, these two occassions are highlighted.)One occasion was during an emergency where we had phoned ahead to make arrangements for our dog and we were ASSURED that somebody would be on standby. (A diabetic fit.)During the emergency, there was NOBODY in attendance - I had to run around and search for somebody to help. Eventually a student arrived who asked me so what seems to be the problem...The following day, we had an appointment with a professor there, and AGAIN had to wait - 30min+.During that time - NOBODY could tell me:1. Where our dog was.2. Where the Professor was that we were waiting for.But they could tell me, upon entering, EXACTLY how much I had to pay, before they would even inform anybody that I was there for my appointment - as they do...I complained about this repeated bad service, only to be told by Professor V Dam that they refuse to treat our very sick dog any further.They deliver PATHETIC service at high rates - dare to complain? They refuse to treat your sick animal.Wake up!If you charge a fee, you need to deliver a service as well!It is clear to see that there are a few academics here with an idea to earn higher incomes, but they have NEVER heard of the concept of service delivery.

In my wildest dreams I have never expect that service like that still exists in South Africa. Everybody was friendly and efficient. The student, Simone Carrington and her supervisor, Dr. McClure took such good care of my cat. They really did everything they could to make a diagnosis. They even phoned regularly to follow up on my cats recovery. I cannot thank them enough and will recommend them to everybody.

Our cat had a bad abscess after a tooth extraction at a local vet. Prof Emma was so professional and thorough. Will recommend Onderstepoort highly!

I am very dissipointed with the service of this place. Since the last time about 6 months ago. My dog swallowed a bone and it got stuck in the stummick. Firstly I tried to make an appointment by phone but no luck. I drove there and see people just going straight in without going to the reception at the end I had to pay full cosultation 400 rand wait 3 hours with a very sick dog and over 400 rand for them to put my dog out because I do not have 14 000 rand to remove the bone from her stummick. Its a disgrace. I am 61 years old and took 7 dogs over the years to them to do all vaccines and treatments but now Im finish with them.

Dr. Steyn and staff are extremely friendly and give professional service and know what they are doing. Best place Ive been to, to take your pets to get seen to or for an emergency. Whats nice is they care just as much about your pets as you do. Which is how a vet should be. Not like some other places that dont care. Thank you for all your help. Much appreciated.

Their service is pretty good, better than a human South African public hospital. But their lack of speed and blatant miss management is shocking. Had my dog in for a infection on his ear, they take a sample for culturing and a week later after we phoned 3 times during the course of that week we get told nothing no results. Only after confirming a new appointment for my dog only to get told Sorry the cultures all went bad and you must pay another R900.00 so we can solve our mistake No I will not pay an extra R900 for your Mistake, Gladly see you in court oh and to this day we still havent received any new news only that youre still researching a month in and my poor dog is still hurt on the ear with blood and gunk dripping everywhere after you cut another piece of sample from the same spot. You care nothing of my animal its a bloody disgrace you people are teaching our kids to become future vets, should have you shut down for mismanagement. For the cost and heart ace stay away from this Animal Hospital, their smiles are fake.

I was always very happy with their service and compassion. However, they have no compassion if you do not have any money and does not promptly visit them as they suggested. Have a heart, it is not always possible. Sad that the only ones left suffering is the animals. They would not provide me with insulin. A necessity. It is not like I am going to inject myself!

Dr Elliott and Dr Steyn are the best. Always been helpful and alway best possible care for your pets. I can’t regard them higher. Do not hesitate. Call them. Let them help your pet. Do not compromise. They will walk the extra mile if you are willing to bring your pet to them

We couldnt asked for better service. Our daxie had a IVDD on Monday. She was operated the same day and had the best care. From Dr Hermien Viljoen who did her op, Anke that looked after her while she was recovering in ICU and stayed in contact with us after she came home. The ICU staff were also very helpfull and caring. We took our Bull terrier (Leila) to Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital on Saturday 30 August. She became very ill the day before and this was my first visit to the Hospital.I am but very impressed with the service and efficient and friendly staff and this positive experience started even before I parked. They had students waiting outside with a trolley to assist with dogs that cannot walk.I can really not even try and fault any of the staff who assisted us. From the lovely people at the front desk to the final year student who assisted us as well as the professional Doctor who was called in to assist with this case.Doctor and staff who assisted us during this difficult morning we want to say THANK YOU very much. We took our precious Baby Tessa to the Hospital on 08.08.2016. The treatment from reception straight through to Adrian and Dr van der Zeer in surgery as well as ICU staff was more than ever expected.Unfortunately we had to put our baby to sleep, but even in this very difficult process the staff was amazing and very supportive, letting me say goodbye in private and allowing me as much time as needed in doing so.Thank you to everyone that understood that she was part of our family and handled her as such.
