A spectacular place to visit! One of the best sanctuaries in South Africa with around 200 bird species freely flying in a very spacious closed aviary about 3 hectares large and up to 60 m high. Though the feeling is that it is larger since the walkway zigzag across the park on different levels. It is very pleasant just to stroll along the walkways and watch for the birds, or to sit on one of tens of the benches standing here and there. The bird reference guide is available at the entrance for R20, thus it is possible to determine any bird species you encounter. Binocular could be helpful, since the aviary is huge. There is a nice small restaurant inside with a good choice of dishes with many vegetarian options and very competitive prices.
It was an amazing experience. It is a short walk through n netted park which allows the birds to roam freely. You can buy a single or combo ticket with Monkeyland and enjoy both parks in the same morning as they are located right next to each other. We enjoyed strolling along the walkways and watching the birds eat, interact and fly. There is a no touch/dont feed policy which is great. It is wheelchair compatible although you need to have some strong arms for the inclines and also for the downhills. There is a small cafe with great eats and drinks (and a liquor license) which I highly recommend to support. The prices are very competitive and I have included menu shots. Bathrooms are place at the min entrance and about the centre of the park. There are small alcoves to sit and watch the birds and you can buy a bird guide for R20 at the entrance. There is also a curious shop.I would definitely visit again.
We planned for 1 hour but ended up spending 2 and wanted to stay longer.. next time I would spend 4 hours and walk slower. Definitely buy the guide book, and take a pen to mark the birds you have seen. It is also a great game to keep the kids calm and interested. The staff is very friendly and they work very hard to keep the place clean and well maintained. This did not feel like a zoo, and truly like a sanctuary.
The experience was spectacular, although a bit pricey. This is a recommended must for any bird watcher out there. The birds are well looked after and everything is clean. Thank you for great experience.
Amazing variety on birds. The booklet available for purchase is so helpful and well done. Absolutely incredible! A must see
Variety of BirdsThis a nice place to see a lots of African birds together, along with birds from different parts of the world. The place is really big with lots of walking but it is small to the amount of birds it nests. There is a little information book on birds available to buy at the counter. that book has a lot of bird information.Accessible to wheelchair, washrooms & safe for children. But stay careful with the birds.
My third trip to birds of Eden and it never gets boring. The largest open air, free flight aviary In the world, and the hidden walkways and waterfalls, surrounded by the cacophony of bird calls under the forest canopy makes it feel like running around in some lost city in Jurassic park. Ill be back!
Great facilities but useless staff. I sat at the restaurant and waited for service for about 10min while all other customers got served. Then I went to ask for a menu and waited again for service. Then I just left, rather go somewhere where the staff actually acknowledge their clients. I can honestly say it was my first and last time going there
My initial thought was that the entrance fee is pretty expensive, but the beautiful raised footpaths through what feels like a dense tropical forest with huge trees made me change my mind! Then the birds, are so plentiful and beautiful in their variety, I could not believe how tame they were. We were fortunate to arrive during feeding time, and could not believe the large numbers of birds enthusiastically climbing in to the food. This is the ideal opportunity for photography enthusiasts to get real close to for example, the very elusive Knysna Loerie. This is a must visit, when in the Knysna area!
One of the most incredible places you can visit. It feels like you are entering a massive jungle filled with all types of birds.Birds seem very happy and are fed a high quality food. Place was clean and didn’t smell despite having so many birds !If visiting knysna you have to come here. No exceptions.Staff were also helpful.
Birds of Eden is a stunning walk through pristine indigenous forest. Zig-zagging, over and under board walks are your way through the place that is both tame and wild at the same time.Oh. And there are birds. 🐦 Incredible birds. Hundreds of them. Everywhere. Its awesome. Take it slow if you can, but definitely worth a stop even if youvw only got 30 minutes to wander through. Youll be wide-eyed and smiling all the way though.(Oh, bring a zoom lens for your 📷 if you e got one.)
Such a calming bliss experience, walking in the sanctuary with the birds 🐦
It is really a wonderful experience. The bird life is enough to see most of the species inside
An Amazing experience. So peaceful and well maintained as a huge bird cage. Fun day with small kids
Birds of Eden is an absolutely amazing aviary. It has such an variety of birds from various places in the world. One highlight was to see the really small blue duiker and the Knysna loerie. The kids loved the pink flamingos and the blue crane was amazing to see. The only negative was the price which was really quite expensive. A suggestion would be to provide a family discount. The restaurant that was situated inside was really nice, but the food was average. The scenery made up for it though.
If u want to know how Tsitsikama look.....take a walk through Birds of Eden...and you will experience nature! One of my favorite places to visit!
What a magical and well cared for sanctuary. I spent 4 hours just moving slowly along the pathways watching and photographing the various birds.R20 is definitely worth buying the book to identify the birds... a quote from the book: “In order to see birds, it is necessary to become a part of the silence”I love being alone with the birds but it also give me great pleasure seeing well behaved kids asking questions and learning about the birds.
The place is nicely done and a beautiful 2h walk inside the massive ‘cage’. Birds are in mixed condition and lots of pigeons (probably not part of the original concept but result of Darwin’s law). Could be cleaner. However, worth a stop - also great with kids!
Great place birds look super healthy and happy had a great time, though it whas little bit pricey but after we went through it whas worth every penny, reception was very friendly and kind and happy to help, the place is very clean and in good condition, lots of birds, but one down side for me, there are lots of pigeons but over all, great place thank you for all your hard work keep it up, hope to i can come back soon
Just the most worthwhile experience for old and young.
Id recommend getting yourself there and having as day out. Enjoy the birds
I loved it, yes it is a bit pricey, but you really get close to the birds, beautiful photo ops, such a variety of birds, and you can spend time to just relax and enjoy, I definitely think it was worth it!
Beautiful place to go if you need a break from city life. We loved the 3 hours we spent here. It was so relaxing and amazing to see all the different birds. Definitely will be returning.
This worlds biggest free flight standing dome is an amazing visit if you love birds! It is peace of mind & an intellectual experience. Get an identification guide at entrance.
Very very good... oxygen for your soul.
If you love birds, this is the go to place. Its the largest covered aviary in the world and worth every Rand spent on entrance.
Wonderful place for the whole family.
It feels like Jurassic Park
Lovely Place to visit. Abundant variety of bird life seen. Some birds will come over to humans - beware they do bite
One of my favorite destinations. Love it!
Wow... Its like a Jurassic Park type experience. A massive net enclosed area where birds fly freely. We had so much fun with our kid just spotting and marking different birds. A must must must see if you are in the area. Friendly staff and a beautiful array of bird and other species.
Great place for any bird watcher.
Too expensive for experience. Can get better value for money!Would not recommend.
It was a Wow experience. A Knysna Loerie came and sat on my arm. Stunning birds and well looked after.A parrot came so close to our daughter as well.
Wheelchair accessible. wooden walk way inside the sanctuary and brick pathways on the outside. Totally worth a visit
We love visiting Birds of Eden. Beautiful place.
Unbelievable experience.Most beautiful birds.Wide variety.
AMAZING!What a fantastic Idea, could easily spend there all day! But we bought tickets to do monkey land and also jukani (all were great)Loved that its a huge net and all the birds can roam/fly around on their own accord. So many beautiful stunning birds, loved getting the guide and trying to see all the birds.
Can easily spend all day here!Loved the tranquility and the adventure of trying to spot all the birds.A guided Tour would’ve been nice for those that aren’t expert Bird watchers/spotters who might have had couple of questions to ask, but the Identification guide at reception helped a lot (R20)The sanctuary is very nice!
Loved this park with all the amazing birds. Much Thought and dedication has obviously gone into this park. Well done team, a day well spent. Loved every minute in the sanctuary.
Awesome experience
Awesome experience! Go, you will not be disappointed. Well done to all involved 😊
If you have a lot of free time its okish place to spend some time...
Tranquil setting. Did not manage to find all the birds but was still worth it
Amazing experience!
I never seen such a big cage in my life. Birds and bats and duikers are treated excellent. You can see many different types of birds up and close. There is also a restaurant you can eat from inside while looking at the birds. Also lots of gifts to buy from the reception. They will definitely see me and my family again.
A very enjoyable walk in the large netted forest. Good outing for children as well. A must see in this area.
Perfect place to visit for any bird/nature lover. Excellent photo ops & a well designed walk-through gets you up close to some of the most beautiful birds ever...they even pose for photos!!
This is definitely a highlight of my visit in Plett! You go into this giant netted forest sanctuary that feels just like youre in Jurassic Park! The birds are amazing and super beautiful!
I loved it. awesome!!So tranquil and the different spices.A great experience!!
A beautiful environment with an abundance of birds to view in their natural state. However, to enjoy fully you need to have 2 hours or more available. Friendly and courteous staff, the hamburgers in the restaurant were great!
When in the Garden Route area I always make a plan to visit Birds of Eden. Its an amazing place to just walk and clear your head, to surrounded by so many birds is absolutely amazing. Love it!! Will see you guys again soon. Keep looking after those beautiful birdies 😁🥰
A little disappointed in this attraction. There isnt a very large amount of birds and they seem to focus on only a hand full of birds. The walkway is nice and some nice elevated points. The price is very high for what you get. For two people adults it was R260pp thats R520 for a couple. Im my opinion thats very expensive for what you get. Its not a bad experience but it should be a lot better.
This was truely an wonder of an experience. The staff was super friendly and really helpful and fun. The sanctuary is breathtakingly beautiful and there was so much to see. The food was quite good. Thank you guys for a such a good experience
Nice place. Could be some more birds though. Better than monkey place!
Amazing experience and I would recomend this to all animal lovers
Our weekend was 👌👌the Birds if Eden park very educational and good to rest a bit😄watching majestic birds showing off
Always wonderful. Please dont rush your trip.
Its an amazing experience every time. Ill never forget curious Bruce the parrot and seeing all the beautiful birds up close. Highly recommend visiting especially if youre a tourist looking to see the beauty of nature.🐦
Great experience and beautiful birds
This is a fantastic facility showcasing birds from around the world. The caged area is large and the birds can fly and swim around. There is a main pathway that meanders through several different habitats and there are many benches to sit and relax. The birds come from all over (shout out to our representative Canadian geese). The park sells guides to identify their residents. We had originally planned to spend an hour, but it exceeded our expectations; we spent two hours and only got half way through the place before torrential rains started and cut our visit short. Overall, Id recommend coming here for a few hours.
This place is incredible and magical!! Like being in a tropical jungle full of birds!
Experience of a lifetime birds are so tame they actually come to you
Beautiful place to visit!
An ABSOLUTE MUSTyou will never forget your visit to this super size aviary bursting with hundreds and hundreds of spectacularly beautiful wild birdsTRULY breathtaking!!
What an amazing avery, never thought you could that close to an knysna Lourie. What a special day and very friendly staff.Tge entrance fee is a bit expensive but definetly worth every cent.
Not great , disappointing
Lovely setting. Well worth the visit
Birds of Eden is the worlds largest free flight bird sanctuary. A very wide variety of birds to see in beautiful forest surrounds. Very highly recommended.
Best place ever to watch birds. Theres plenty to see if only you look up. Parking with guards. Easy to get to from the N2. If you pay attention, you ll spot the most beautiful birds. Get the book from the entrance for R20 to get to know the species. You can get a combo ticket with Jukani and/or monkey land to reduce the fees.
Such an amazing place. Highly recommend for nature lovers.
Amazingly huge enclosure with birds coming up close to eat at feeding stations dotted all along the pathway. We saw a lot of species we couldnt even identify - really, well worth the price of entry. And you might as well pop in to see the monkeys next door too! (the monkeys are guided tours, whereas you can walk around the birds yourself)
Much better than I expected. Incredible to get so close to birds that one often battles to see in the wild.
If youre on the Garden Route, then you simply cannot miss this place. In fact, Id go as far as saying that this was one of the highlights of my entire SA trip. Havent seen anything like this anywhere else. Gorgeous rare birds that are not afraid of humans and just so pristinely maintained.
What an amazing experience! I absolutely loved it there. Its a must for anyone who loves nature.
Amazing, amazing, amazing. Not the best weather, but still saw a large variety. Highlyrecommended
Amazing experience, especially with our 2yr old child
The place is soo well looked after, the birds are soo beautiful. The walk is quite long but something new around every corner creates a wonderful atmosphere. Its realy nice to see the birds having enough space to stretch their wings and fly around.
It is excelent place with all kyne of birds in environment that is prepared will for them it is been arranged ln anyway to see all kind of birds and their life to end up with the bears that live near the sea and Waters it is good place to visit
Beautiful and scenic. A unique experience. Would have liked to see some more exotic species though.
Such a relaxing and beautiful way to spend an hour or two... We visited on Tuesday morning and were fortunate to see many of the birds, some came very close, others were in trees or in flight. Also saw quite a few duikers! The walkways are well maintained. Highly recommended.
Very nice and well preserved, its bigger then you would think and it really feels like the birds have their freedom and can live in their own habitats. I would recommend to do this when in the area.
Beautiful, loved that I could walk amongst the birds at my own pace
This is the best place to see a huge variety of birds close up. I just love walking though the thick forest area and listening to all the bird life. This is a must visit if you are in the area.
Go early and on a quiet day for the best experience. If you are slow and quiet, some of the birds will land really close to you and other may even follow you around for a while. The site is also much larger than it seems on first going in. It is broken into more than one area giving some separation to the birds. If it is quiet, spend some time on the suspension bridge and look out for the two bats.
A great place for bird lovers and the family. Watch out for some cheeky birds 😆
Really awesome there! They have also a restaurant there where you can get some good meals.
