The home of Amarula. Here in Phalaborwa they collect the Maroela fruit when in season and process the pulp usually between end of January till March. They greet you with a drink of Amarula liqueur in crushed ice as you enter. I watched a video presentation which was interesting but I will be back when the fruit is in season to get a tour of the factory! There is a little gift shop and a restaurant serving light meals inspired by Amarula and drinks. EDIT: The Amarula Lapa apparently closed down in mid-December 2018. As an alternative to visit Qualito Craft Distillery in Phalaborwa! They offer a tasting tour and its only a few kilometres away from the Amarula lapa EDIT: The lapa has since closed down ☹️
The place offers great insight on how Amarula is made. A short video presentation of about 5-10 min long will be played which details the whole process of manufacturing Amarula. It is a great stop to Kruger National Park, my guests really enjoyed it.
Loved learning about the history of the drink, especially the involvement of the community. The factory is only open from January to March. I was a bit disappointed that Amarula is not cheaper here. It turned out that their prices are actually a little more above the liquor store prices. The place is very well maintained and clean. The foods great. All in all, I enjoyed the experience.
Mapula took us on a lovely educational tour of the factory where the fruit is prepared.we were welcomed with a glass each of chilled Amarula and ended off the day with the best and cheapest lunch we had all holiday! and we were gifted with a stunning Amarula lantern. Thanks all for the great experience!its a must for a short day out.
Great Learning experience. A must see when visiting Phalaborwa. Friendliest staff ever. We got engaged under the 50 year old tree. Food is amazing. Thank You Ladies
Hospitality and caring Staff. When you arrive you are welcomed with a drink to ease your tension and make you relax. Its a wonderful place to be if you want to learn about beneficiation of the Marula Fruit
Not worth the detour. You could have bought a bottle of Amarula at a liquor store for cheaper and enjoyed it while seeing the sunset of having a braai. Everything more expensive and you could have read up on the history on the internet. I LOVE Amarula and enter all the competitions but the Amarula Lapa for me was a waste of time.
Very interesting and proudly South African!
Very expensive but informative. Very short dvd tour. Nice food
A great place to visit and enjoy a nice meal.
