Incredible place .. it’s all in the small things, like heated underfloor bathroom and heated towel rails that just make this place so damn amazing !!Especially loved the hot tub at sunset !!Staff is amazing and friendly and super warmThe whole experience was incredible!! A really great stay !!

Stunning boutique hotel with its own charm

Abalone House is a fabulous guesthouse in Paternoster. Wonderful friendly staff led by Dirk the Manager who look after all our needs. The rooms are a generous size with extra length beds, bath and shower. Extra touches like Mother’s Day gifts and water for the trip home. We will be back to stay and next time to try one of the spa treatments on offer. Xx

One of the best places to stay in Paternoster (West Coast). Although its not right on the beach and most rooms dont have sea view, the places makes it up in other things.To start with the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They go the extra mile to make you comfortable and are very accommodating with all requests.The place - is done very nicely. Rooms are decent size, beds are comfortable, free cable on the room (limited but you get all sports channels). Bathrooms are good size and have all amenities. Breakfast is included and food and really good and fresh. They even have champagne during the breakfast at no charge. Unfortunately we couldnt have dinner there but have been told that the food at their restaurant is one of the best you will find in the west coast.Would definitely recommend this place if youre going to the west coast.

Lovely views. Great staff. Good food. I did not add the extra star because of a few maintenance issues at the pool house where we stayed. Spending that kind of money, one tends to expect near perfection. Very eclectic. Loved the decor!

A lovely stay in Paternoster, but by no means 5 Star. We stayed in the villa, which had gorgeous views of the sea and is walking distance from some great restaurants (Wolfgat is down the road). On the down side, the accommodation is a bit tired; the outside furniture is very worn, the pillows are uncomfortable and showers had little pressure.The breakfast was lack luster, lacked freshness and the staff are extremely slow.The hotel is not pristine and is in need of a re-vamp, so not the best value for money.

Let it be known that this restaurant at Abalone House is NO LONGER Rubens... it is the Abalone Restaurant in the hotel, which used to be run by Chef Ruben but this is no longer the case. We phoned to book using the number from our guesthouse asking for Rubens and were told we would not need to book. When we arrived we were the only dinner guests in the whole restaurant ON a long weekend... this should have been a hint. They have essentially kept the same menu but no longer have qualified chefs. Think pork made with bottled sweet chilli sauce and marmalade, and a rack of lamb made with bottled BBQ sauce. But still at the original prices of R200+ a dish. Never mind their wine list that is marked up about 300%... double the price of many restaurants. Really really low standard posing as a 5-star restaurant and still using the Rubens name to lure guests. Shocking.

We stayed there beginning of December and we loved it. Love the decor of the hotel as well in the room. I highly recommend it!

Wonderful stay!! We stay for three nights, have dinner and breakfast. We really enjoy staying here. Very caring concierge!! The room is tidy/clean, wifi is fast. We could park our car in front of the hotel. The property is secured by cameras. Beautiful view, wonderful whirlpool! This is exactly what youre looking for if you value excellent service from staff.Rooms are fantastic and extremely comfortable and clean.Ryno and all staff went out of their way to make our stay most comfortable. Had a lovely stay at Abalone House, offered a glass of champagne on arrival.Ryno was a lovely host, professional and friendly. We enjoyed the jacuzzi and welcome drinks.The bedrooms are spacious and the floor heating came in handy. This place has beautiful sea views ( lovely for sunset), a few minutes walk to the beach and restaurants. They also have a restaurant on the premises, i highly recommended that you try it good. The quality of the food was good and well presented.They also have a spa and free wifi.There was an issue that happened outside of this premises but the employees were kind enough to make sure that we were okay. Thank you very much to management.I wish we could have stayed longer. I highly recommend this accommodation.

Very nice place to stay. The beach is in walking distance. The big boulders at the beach is a sight to see and experience if you are into that. We enjoyed our stay. The staff is very friendly and easy to talk too. Gave us some nice information about the surrounding area.

Absolutely wonderful! Fantastic scenic oceanside location in a restaurant that exudes character (except when the wind is blowing 30 knots and the perspex needs bolting down). Reuben is a wonderful chef and he has trained his cooking staff well. Service - as is the norm in S Africa - needs better training and more understanding of the fine dining experience. All in all when in Paternoster this a must.

Highlight of our little road trip through the Cape. Everything was just great. Really loved the place, the people, the food. The 2 house cats Thomas and Chelsea add a nice homely touch!

Return visit albeit for only one night due to my scheduling problems. Warmly welcomed by Leigh and Ryno. Wonderful one hour walk on the beach early this morning perfectly set us up for nourishing breakfast omelette. Good vibe and wonderful view.

The food was a disappointment. A very tiny piece of average chicken with mashed patato for R175...The atmosphere and views were great. The place looks stunning.

Overpriced.

Perfect service, lovingly furnished rooms. The kitchen is perfect, the wine list leaves nothing to be desired. The coast is gorgeous and invites you for a walk. We thank for the prudence and courtesy. This is a place that we like to recommend and definitely visit again.

The time of the 5 stars is long gone.We werent received at all because nobody was there. The waiting was not made more pleasant for us with the strong scent of garlic from the adjacent open kitchen.The first room, which we were assigned, was very unclean in front of the door (leaves, bird droppings) and a darkroom inside.The pool, including the inner courtyard, as well as the entire outside area are in extremely neglected condition. Everywhere on the floor, the stairs, in the water (pool), on chairs, seat cushions and tablecloths a lot of bird droppings, dirt, old leaves and unkempt greenery (especially in the restaurant outside area). The upper floor, where we were then offered a second room, made an unkempt impression. Only the beautiful view of the Atlantic is worth mentioning positively. Otherwise also here: doormat full of lint and dirt, cigarette butt in the flower pot in front of our room door, shower head completely calcified and dirty, as well as the shower walls were not cleaned for a long time. The bathing slippers made of terrycloth in the closet, already used by guests before us, were then in front of the bed for us in the evening. We didnt even ask about the advertised spa because there were stacked chairs behind the glass entrance door and the door could not be opened. The manager didnt even have a morning greeting left for us the next morning but turned and disappeared.
