A most unusual restaurant, full of character. It got very busy, so I would book before going. We were lucky as we arrived just after it open. I had the most amazing vegan breakfast there last Sunday, to be honest it was the best meal of my life. If it wasnt for the 340 kms round trip to get there. I would go again this Sunday. Just love this place.
Climbing the steap stairs will definitely pay off. Apart from the wide range of beers and cocktails availible here, this place has some of the most delicious milkshakes I ever tasted! Combine that with the amazing atmosphere, the interesting building and styling, the view and the friendly staff, I can guarantee that this will give an amazing experience.
Cute restuarant and staff was very friendly. We had the pork belly and rissotto to eat which was outstanding. We then ordered a cheese board which however was VERY disappointing. 4 harder cheeses were served and the cheese boards boasts a mere 4 crackers. If it had not been for the cheese board we would have rated it as 5 star but unfortunately the board brought our experience down.
What a lovely place. Food was delicious and very well presented. When in Parys, Hoi Polloi is a MUST visit.
Service was a bit slow, but the place was quite busy. Very nice atmosphere and interesting menu variety. Bread was perfectly fresh and delicious!
Hidden gem in Parys, great menu and friendly staff. Will absolutely go back again. Thank you for a great experience Shani and Selina.
Three stars because the good came with the bad. Although the place is nice and very well situated in the small town of Parys there were certain downfalls that just soured my experience of the place. Firstly the first two beers I ordered were out of stock so I had to settle for my third option. Secondly the waitress was absolutely clueless about what was available and what wasnt. She also took very long to attend to us leaving us with nothing to drink for long periods of time. Secondly for the price we paid for our food it certainly was not worth it. I ordered a pork pie with crinkle cut chips. The pastry was old and stale and the pie filling was average with very little flavour. The chips were stale as well. My girlfriend ordered a fillet steak on the bone, she wanted it medium but honestly it was so raw that none of us were comfortable enough to finish the steak.Overall the place leaves you feeling as though you shove gotten more for your money.
Great place, helpful staff, but very dissapointed in the food, expected much much more after looking at previous reviews and photos, menu reads and sound delish but NOT at all value for money sorry.
Intriguing and fascinating menu that is backed by amazing food, awesome vibe, great service and quirky decor that stays true to Parys
Its a real vibey up beat place and the food and drinks are all reasonably priced
Overall experience was very average. Service adequate, some of the meals are very overpriced and really not good. I ordered the steamed pork neck - it may look like cordon bleu food but it does not taste like it. It was a small portion of dry meat with three portions of mash. Very disappointing meal. My daughter had the oxtail. It was good but not great.
Little pricey, but good food and friendly service make for a good lunch or dinner. Something different
Anazing niche place, creative menu and friendly staff
Lovely eclectic deco. Friendly service from waiter. Yummy granadilla gin and tonic cocktail. Great pork belly starter. Delicious lamb tzatziki burger. Moist chocolate cake. I would recommend it.
Used to be one of my favorites. love the wine glases. please remove the vegan stack of the menue its seriously disappointing!!!!!
Such a unique experience that one must try!
What a wonderful time we had in this outstanding Bistro! Excellent menu, fabulous staff and we all had a superb luncheon...definitely worth the trip to Parys for lovely sunday outing, only 1hrs away!
Eclectic and interesting spot. Went with far too many people on a rainy day, so Im sure its normally much better than the experience I had. Food was good, except the pie pastry needs work. I would visit again.
Amazing service from Clementine! Despite lockdown rules everything was great!
Had a fantastic breakfast. Staff were absolutely the friendliest Ive sen
Hoi polloi is an expression from Greek that means the many or, in the strictest sense, the people. In English, it has been given a negative connotation to signify deprecation of the working class, commoners, the masses or common people in a derogatory or ironic sense. WikipediaNothing hoi polloi (commoner) about it. The entrance to the restaurant, up a steep staircase, gives access to an outside deck overlooking the street. A great seating spot during the day, but could be chilly at night. Inside the decor will keep your attention for hours. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, too many to mention here. The wine list ranges from over R1000 to around R200 with good selection. Large tables can seat families to two seaters in ticket away sections. Service is good, but when full could be under pressure. Go and enjoy the experience. Ours was an evening dinner experience, had their curry, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Food was amazing. Wish we could spend more time to enjoy going through the menu.
A wonderful stop for a delicious breakfast. Great staff.
I was realy hamgover so I really needed food.
Love the atmosphere, Indian curry could have a little bit more flavor and salt
I have been a couple times before and have always enjoyed it, so decided to bring my boyfriend. The only redeeming feature was the extensive wine list. I had the chicken ravioli which was gloopy and actually horrible. He had the duck leorange which had no distinct taste and the duck was over cooked. The lemon meringue pie had a good crust but the meringue wasnt so great. Service was inconsistent too. Such a pity
Incredible vintage decor with an eclectic ambience.Interesting menu with something for everyone.Cocktails are a must!
Great food. Great drinks. Charming decor and wonderful service.
Breakfast for our group of 7 was well appreciated and enjoyed.
Love the decor, unique crocery and style of the venue. Portions could be a tad more generous compared to what you pay. Overall, a lovely experience.
Wonderful atmosphere. The pork neck was fabulous. Not the best value--small portions for big prices.
Extremely friendly and excellent service. Creatively decorated. Thank you for a great morning!!
Just changing my review from the last time I was here. We made a reservation for 7pm and only received our table at 8pm. We were a bit disgusted in the management. What is the point of a reservation then? None the less, Great vibe, nice and relaxed. Big variety of gin and beer. Food is good quality and not overpriced! So I will probably go again, just without a reservation.
Good food and value for your money friendly staff
Great service and ice cold beer
Very nice with a cozy atmosphere.Great variety of craft beer. 🍻
Theres no real theme, or overarching styling to pigeonhole this restaurant. From big USA flags, to Buddhist statues, its really just deurmekaar. But thats what I liked about it too.The menu is as diverse as the styling and furniture. The food was good. Service friendly. And at all times, it felt like they took Covid seriously.
What a lovely gem, with a place to sit around every corner, good Gin and coffee, not together though....
Decor, ambience was great. That unusualness factor was high, with plenty of interesting and nostalgic odds and ends to cast your eyes over. Our breakfast was decent, and a bit pricey for kids.
The decor of the place is stunning, really cool. The menu is very mixed, I missed a little bit the consistency. I had an ostrich burger with beetroot pesto - nice idea but the taste was only average and it was cold when it arrived after almost 40 minutes. The prices are rather high; not sure if its worth it... The service was perfect.
HiLovely viewMilkshakes are so amazing!Coctail variety seems really niceWagyu beef burger patty was just very dry and too thickThey should add more sauce to the burgerOhh and the scary stairs are uhm very steap
In love with this place and I had the privilege to meet the host. What a lovely person for a lovely place
We wanted lunch- but you can only order from 12h00. But instead we had drinks. Dom Pedro was the best i had in a long time.
Only good thing was the coffee.Waited really long for the food that wasnt even good. Wasted our time and money
A charming venue with loads to see and a scrumptious menu. Take your time and enjoy the ambience.
The restaurant looks rustic however the service was mediocre. We waited 1,5hrs for a light lunch and eventually left without eating.
Absolutely delicious food, the chef really knows their stuff!
The gem of Paris fine selective restaurant. The food is delectable, staff so friendly. The price is reasonable worth it.
What a wonderful experience we had to with this restaurant in Parys (Vrystaat)Food and service excellent👌👌👌
It was really nice to eat at the restaurant I will recommend it to people. The food and service is👌👌👌
Excellent all round experience
Quaintly stylish restaurant with great beer, wine and cider pairing. Certainly worth a trip up the steep stairs
Nice place. Good vibe, excellent friendly service. Somewhat pricey with imported italian water at R60 per liter while Oasis water goes for roughly R1 a liter.
Lovely breakfast spot.Great omelette(mozzarella, bacon and rocket ). Lovely upstairs area. good Covid measures in place.Very strange creme brulee🤔
Good service, food and atmosphere. Love antiques on display.
Had a very nice chicken and litchi salad here
They serve breakfast until 11:30. Couldnt order anything else on the menu. Bit of a let down when you drove 2 hours to get there
Very nice and cosyFood well prepared
Stunning and different venue!
Busy as usual. Nice Boerie breakfast.
Food is delish even though we only had breakfast! I think service can improve, waiter took long to take our order, but the atmosphere was lovely!
Food portions are very small and doesn’t impress taste wise either. Service not too great.
Top class food and service ...
I went there once for lunch, but upon seeing the high prices on the menu for even basic dishes, my friend and I opted for drinks only (we were only students). The staff, although friendly, werent very quick in brinking our from-the-bottle drinks. Also, we waited a substantial amount of time before managing to get a waitress attention to bring us the bill.It wasnt all bad though. The vibe on the deck outside under the tent-like structures, sitting on laid-back couches was relaxing though.
Good food! Can be a bit heavy on the wallet, but the price is worthit!
Exquisite food with an eclectic ambience of bygone eras. Love this place!
If you are hungry do yourself a favour and go elsewhere, portions are small and ridiculously expensive for what you get!!! What a disappointment.
Food - Super AverageWaiting Time - Very LongAtmosphere - DecentPrice - Too Expensive
Bohemian place, pretty and interesting.
Excellent service, environment and experience all round
Over priced. Very small portions. Average service. Only good wine.
Great atmosphere and vibe! Food is served beautifully and their milkshakes are tasteful.
